  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Well, I put a short review of my Genesis on the Lexus Forum.....They didn't like it..

I think what set off the minority of posters (lots of posts on that thread) was the way you positioned the GS against the Genesis..

I drove both and I wouldn't call the GS a toy...

I might have said something like...

Rear seat room in the GS460 is lacking compared to the Genesis...
Power is down compared to the Genesis (to be fair the GS engine is an older design)...

etc....

I think if you made your case based on the reasons you concluded the GS was a "toy" rather than just throwing that out there, 99% of the posts would have been about the cars,

Uh... 75-90% of the posts on that page are supportive of you & your new Genesis. There's only a very small minority bashing Hyundai on that page, or on tear because you insulted their Lexus. I think you're just seeing so much negativity because you expected negativity. They really are surprisingly supportive and open about the Genesis, upon reading that thread.

All of the really bad posts were deleted by the moderator, as I had indicated.

There have been a lot of posts deleted from this forum because people criticized the Genesis.

This is nothing compared to the mindless union dolts on GM Inside news. They are complete haters of anything non GM. All mention of the current administration causes an immediate deletion of the post. I don't understand how you can mention GM and not mention the government as they are one and the same. Any mention that a non US brand is possibly good will bring the most derogatory comments about your mother, your lineage and any sexual preferences. The entire website was giddy during the Toyota crisis calling anyone that owned a Toyota product sheeple with a death wish and deserving of whatever happened to them. I read the posts on the Lexus forum and they were positively civil compared to this.

The GM union members are not just talking about cars, they are talking about their jobs, their families, their retirement, their lives. So while I usually don't agree with UAW members, their reaction is understandable to me.

Likewise, a lot of Hyundai stakeholders who post on this forum have thrown temper tantrums when anyone criticized the Genesis 2009 suspension or even suggested that Hyundai made improvements to it in 2010. Miraculously, the temper tantrums seemed to dissipate when their 2009 inventory was gone.

I am always stunned when I see enthusiasts talking about going into their garage for a few hours so they can spend "quality time" with their car. To me, waxing a car is drudgery (even if it looks great when finished). I spend quality time with people, not machines.

Maybe, but being venomous to people because they don't buy your product is ridiculous. Especially when you make a drastically inferior product.

Why should I buy American over Asian? I don't know any autoworkers. Yeah, buying Asian cars reduce American jobs in the automotive sector (so go get a new job! Oh wait, you won't accept a job for less than $40 an hour, despite being a high school dropout), but buying American cars deprive Asians of jobs in the automotive family.

Or, maybe Alabamans from jobs, as it may be. And not buying GM may be depriving Mexicans from jobs (hi to the new GM plant in Mexico City!).

All said, I have no reason to favor a venomous jackass in Detroit over a stranger in Ulsan. Whoever provides the best product at the best price gets my business, maybe Detroit needs a lesson in free enterprise.

What do Asian or American labels even mean anymore? My other vehicle is a Toyota and it was built in Indiana by American workers. The car I was considering before the Genesis was that all-American icon, the Camaro, manufactured in Canada.

in ymexperience its not who builds them as much as who designs the,. The Americans in the past have skimped on every little thing they can to cut costs. Not saying the japanese didnt do the same but the Americans were worse.

I agree, but am not exactly surprised if the UAW disagrees.

I think the demise of the US auto industry is a combination of the US corporations and unions (and their political cronies). When foreign companies decide to assemble or manufacture cars in the US, they don't do it in states that effectively force workers to join unions.

Question for the moderators: how true is this statement? Seems to me that removing anything but truly offensive or clearly false posts diminishes the value of the forum, especially for potential buyers trying to get a sense of the car from actual owners.

I have NEVER done so. There are less than a handful of us moderators here and the only posts I have ever removed were because of the lack of tact and character by some individuals. Some people will never learn to just keep their mouths shut and accept someone's answer. We are so worried about our "reputation" (which is stupid because the chances of us ever meeting in person to "duke it out" is slim to none) that if someone submits a rebuttal to our opinion, we automatically throw up the DEFENSE flag! Once that happens, all he!! breaks loose and its nothing but a mess. We try to catch these issues upon conception and most of the time we nail them before they REALLY get out of hand.

Forum wars are real and can get nasty...in fact, I almost started one on Club-Lexus when asked about my Genny. (I do own a RX400H which gave me every right to be there) Luckily enough, the Moderator for Club-Lexus and I worked it out.

But to answer your question, the only time I will delete a post is if the language offends ME (or of course, the post is useless info or spam). If it offends ME, than more than likely it has no purpose for being here. Debating things are fine...until someone instigates the fight. However, the post will NOT be deleted without the POSTER getting a little feedback from myself...out of respect.

SO...how many times have I done this? Uhhh, maybe 3 times...but not because they criticized the Genny. :o

Anybody is welcome here...as long as they follow the rules. WE ALL KNOW how good the Genny is and how it is transforming the automotive industry and we all know that not everybody see's HYUNDAI as a Lexus/BMW class of vehicle...simply because A.) they have never ridden in one b.) they are more worried about their status symbol's.

Anywho, as long as things are clean...we're all good here!:grouphug:

The flames were flying in short order. I compared my recently acquired 2011 Genesis to my Lexus GS350. I made a statement that the GS350 was like a toy and a cheap compact and that the Genesis was a better car to me.

Some folks over there agreed with me and a few got very nasty. The thread was moderated, many posts deleted and my posts were changed. I was threatened to be ousted from the forum after 9 years of membership, because I was just 'baiting' everyone. I posted in their Car Chat forum, but I really don't think that they want to hear about a Hyundai being better than a Lexus. I am glad that the Genesis is better than my Lexus. It's Cheaper!

For your reading enjoyment

Haha.. Everyone knows Lexus owners are thin skinned. Lots of hate there - they must feel personally threatened.

Those guys simply can't get their heads around the fact that they paid tens of thousands more for a comparably equipped vehicle plus a prestigious nameplate. They don't even want to hear about it. That's why Cut Throat was treated so harshly.

Yup.. Of course, you will see this attitude on every car forum - the number of brand whores far exceeds the number of car enthusiasts.

Personally, I think it is a little rude to start such a thread in a Lexus forum. Most people call that trolling. Besides, only a comparison between a 2011 Lexus and 2011 Genesis would have been fair (and not a comparision between a 2007 Lexus and 2011 Genesis).

He posted in Car Chat - a forum for the discussion of cars other than Lexus. The problem is not what he posted or where but the audience there that read it.

Honda and Toyota have the highest owner loyalty in the market. It translates in some ways to blind devotion to anything the brand puts out despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary. That's just the way some people are regardless of brand though.

Small wonder that the states that don't force unionization aren't the ones in dire economic straits now.

Why are auto workers supposed to be any different than any other form of manufacturing worker? We've outsourced the majority of our manufacturing to other parts of the world for five decades, and only autoworkers act persecuted for that fact.

The Korean's aren't just winning because they don't pay their autoworkers as much - they win because their currency is weak (GREAT for exporting nations, bad for importing nations) relative to ours right now, because they have a better supply chain, because they have a streamlined organization instead of a horrible bureaucratic one, because they seem to hire/promote on merit instead of politics (look at how many other companies have been sniping Hyundai talent lately).

All of these are reasons to give my business to Korea. Paying for 70 levels of management in the left side headrest department of GM, just because the color of THOSE people are the same as mine, is not a reason. It whole 'Save American Jobs' thing is slowly becoming racist, really. The main principle of international economics (hell, any economics) is that those who can perform a task with the greatest efficiency should do it, and those who can't shouldn't be doing that.

the korean car stigmatism is mostly prevalent here in north america USA where "brand name" is overly valued.

anyone with half a brain can see how much better a genesis is over it's similar priced rivals.

it's only a handful on these forums that still don't get it, this reflects only a tiny percentage of the majority. the vast majority already accepts a korean car as a quality automobile.

just like LG and samsung was once known to be a budget brand, they are now considered high end and a brand name.

hyundai and kia will also have the same affect.

LOL. Op, what an epic thread. A bunch of no-neck retards fan-boy defend their Lexuses and somehow you're encouraging cross-forum "flaming" by telling us to read the post. Hahahaha. I love forum-nazis. I swear, if anyone here starts that crap... (forum-nazism) LOL

that clublexus forum does more to harm the lexus reputation than it does anything else. If I was lexus, I would not want that forum and it's mods to be representing the brand lexus.

it's funny because the ones that get all wild up are the ones with the 10 year old lexus with 300,000 miles thinking they are the bomb because there is a L logo on their car.
