  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

What 5 relatively inexpensive items would you like to see added to the Genesis?

I think mine are already covered but one more time, I would like

1- BT call/dial and hangup button on the stearing wheel.
2- Window rollup and rolldown using remote key
3- Cooled passenger seat
4- one touch buttons for CD changing/radio station presets. I hate changing the nav screen from nav to CD or radio to change to presets.
5- Power rear-view mirrors folding

ADA - You may already have item 4. If you want to change to the next or previous CD/DVD in the changer, Hold down the Next Track or Previous Track buttons on the steering wheel. Hold the button for 2-3 secs and the next/previous disk will load. I haven't tried changing radio stations that way.

  • Cooled driver's cup holder to go along with cooled seats
  • It's probably not an inexpensive upgrade, but I'd really like to see more ergonomic front seats with better lumbar, thigh and lateral support. The current seat is only so-so.
  • Entertainment system playback should be programmed to auto-pause for outgoing and incoming BT phonecalls
  • 10 min accessory power reserve to keep stereo, BT, etc. running after engine shutoff unless and until driver's door opens

I'll join the chorus that says we need a cooled passenger seat, some kind of trunk lid assist, and an a/v package designed more like Ford's Sync. Let's not forget the smart cruise control. And perhaps nicer wood trim in the interior, instead of the less-than-convincing plastics...let's face it: The wood-trimmed steering wheel is nice, but it's not as nice as a Lexus.
Yeah so many things on this car are not as nice as a Lexus. Wood, leather, ride quality. Oh I forgot numb steering, body roll and paying twice as much.

1. Ashtray delete (replace with change holder?)

2. a knob to control sensitivity of the auto headlights,
(like intermittent wipers, so the lights don't blink so often).
I can't believe it would cost much
3. mud flaps (with Genesis logo )

4. vent in center console.
(I notice it gets hot in there with my ipod running)

5. Option to color code the grille

6. Optional seats with more lateral support...
Could this be kept cheap?

I'm curious - what benefit would power folding mirrors be on the Genesis? I've had them on my Lexus, Cadillac and several other cars - I've never used them on a car. I use them on my truck at a car wash, but that's typically for clearance issues, which I don't see being a problem with the Genesis.

Just wondering if there's something I'm missing (often, there is :))

This might have something to do with where you tend to do most of your parking. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area, and trying to park a car, let alone keep it from getting all dinged up, is quite the challenge. Especially when parking in parking garages, I tend to prefer spots next to a support column so that I can come in close to the column, and leave the maximum space possible on the other side (basically this allows me to avoid door dings without being the jackass who takes more than one space). I wish that my current car had folding mirrors (to help with the approach, as it were) and my daily driver is a Fit!

In rural or suburban areas with nice wide parking spaces, this simply isn't an issue.

LLT:

Seriously? If you have a larger car power folding mirrors are so handy!

At work I park in a very tight parking space right next to 3 metal support beams. At home I park my car in a 1 car garage w/ a narrow opening (my mirrors only clear by about 2-2.5" on each side). I can't tell you how many times I've come close to hitting my mirrors. I managed to whack my mirrors on my Honda Pilot 3 times, granted I had only about an inch on each side of my mirrors when pulling into my garage. Having the ability to fold the mirrors in would make parking much easier in my situation....and I'm certain I'm not alone. Heck, I visited DC last year and was amazed at how many cars w/broken sideview mirrors in the Dupont Circle neighborhood I saw (the streets are narrow and there is very little parking except along the curb). This feature is one of the only things I miss about my GS430.

-Add a 20GB of storage space for music on Tech Package models
-Add a cooling function to the passenger seat on models w/ the Tech Package
-Add a keyless entry button on the rear doors
-Power folding mirrors
-Audio/Tech on untill drivers door open
-Allways on power socket

Thanks Elliot. I did not know that and the radio presets did work with it. I guess I'll replace my #4 with :

4- Provide headset outputs so that kids can listen to whatever they want, and I can listen to what I want.

1. Coin holder
2. Heated and power side view mirrors
3. BETTER IPOD INTEGRATION SYSTEM!!!!!!
4. Folding rear seats
5. IPOD and Cellphone holder
6. Smaller side view mirrors, i can't see the ground when i'm making a left turn
7. Emergency brake release, i don't like the fact that i have to press the break again to release it (might be my hangup buy hey you asked, lol)

Who says we only get 5? All but the first two should be pretty much free.

  1. cooled passenger seat
  2. tilting passenger seat bottom
  3. set the cupholders lower so tall drinks don't interfere with the DIS knob
  4. get rid of the NAV disclaimer
  5. maintain the state of settings between starts (e.g. seat cooler, random track on USB)
  6. remote starter option to pre-cool (or heat) interior.
  7. wing badges -- lose the H!
  8. dull the chrome trim on the HVAC vents
  9. updated map and POI database
  10. rework some of the locations of NAV options

1. Remove the chrome around the vents...(sun reflections)
2. Replace the sub with a REAL sub
3. Passenger cooled seat (Unbelievable that it's not there)
4. Power folding mirrors
5. Phonebook transferring over bluetooth (what an incredible oversight!)

[*]get rid of the NAV disclaimer
Seeing that every factory and portable GPS system has this disclaimer now, I don't think that's going to happen. Could there be a law requiring it?

1- BT call/dial and hangup button on the stearing wheel.
4- one touch buttons for CD changing/radio station presets. I hate changing the nav screen from nav to CD or radio to change to presets.

For the integrated BT system (Tech pkg), you can push the phone button on the steering wheel once briefly to bring up the phone menu. Holding down the phone button when not in a call will redial the last number. Holding down the phone button will end a call in progress.

The left thumb directional pad works with radio and satellite station/frequency. If you push left or right briefly, it will go to the previous or next preset (XM/FM/AM). If you hold the button down, it will go to the next numeric station (XM) or the next strong frequency (AM/FM).

Keeping in mind that I don't have mine yet, my list would be:
  • Upgraded passenger front seat (like the drivers)
  • Auto folding mirrors
  • Increased brightness of the DIS display, and/or better visibility in direct sunlight
  • Folding rear seats
  • Expanded Bluetooth functionality

Compared to pretty much any backlit LCD, the DIS display does do quite well in everything except direct sunlight. I've even been able to turn down the adjustable backlight. If it's not bright enough for you, you can crank up the brightness. You can watch a DVD during the day with no problem, again, unless the sun is directly hitting from the side/rear.

The light on the buttons for the climate control, however, wash out with even oblique sunlight. :(

Probably lawyers at the companies that require it. These days if someone gets drunk in a bar and then causes an accident while DUI, the bar will get sued.

Every vehicle I've had with factory navigation only requires you to agree to the disclaimer if you're actually using the navigation system. The Genesis seems to require it everytime you start the car, regardless of what you're doing, which frankly, is obnoxious.

One more that I find important...
Increase the output of the stereo, 540 watts is not enough to push 17 speakers.
I have asked my sound guys and the 7.1 surround sound is too difficult for them to tinker with. They want to remove it.

So many good responses here. Hyundai, are you listening? This is the type of information companies spend big money on to try and acquire.

Anyway, I have a couple of things to add that haven't already been mentioned.

1. Update the cloth material found in the console box, glove box, and also the trunk if possible. Mercedes has a plush and sturdy material that not only feels good but also feels quality. I know this material doesn't cost much so I think Hyundai should offer it. In the trunk they should have a plush mat, again, like Mercedes.

2. OK, I would have to think this doesn't cost much and others may not see the value in it as I do but I just don't understand why companies don't offer something like this, that is, a wireless connection to the hard drive in the car. Someone already mentioned adding a hard drive which I certainlly think makes sense. Just make it have a good amount of space like at least 500 gigs. Then allow it to connect to your wireless network at your house. This way your Genesis could sit in the driveway or the garage and you could easily add music or even videos to it. Again, just a thought.

I can see it now, cars flying down the highway sharing data across the wireless network. I think this would add a LOT of cost...

First MFGs end up paying a premium (or at least charging a premium) for tech content, A 500 GB drive (with crash protection etc) with a wireless network and an os to drive it would likely add a few hundred to the bottom line.
