  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

What 5 relatively inexpensive items would you like to see added to the Genesis?

Great question!

1. Better trunk covering on underside.

2. More storage for driver! the center console and door panels are ok, but that SLOT in the dash, please! I dont want to have to put coins in my ashtray. Who smokes anymore? Maybe Koreans smoke more than Americans. Maybe i'm wrong...

3. In my non-tech 3.6, real integrated bluetooth.

4. Proximity sensing unlock.

That's all that i can think of for now...

Seth

I don't know if there's a thread on "improvements" as opposed to "new added items", but while I love the auto-sensing wipers, I can't seem to get them set exactly where I want them with regards to the timing. I think an improved (perhaps on the dash?) display of the wiper setting might help. It's been 3 months for the car, and I'm still not using it intuitively.

You can pull the ashtray out, and it makes nice storage for coins.

ooh i second the ALWAYS ON POWER OUTLET!!!

I have had one in several other cars, never had a dead battery, but always had a charged cell phone!

That shouldn't cost a dime!

6. Smaller side view mirrors, i can't see the ground when i'm making a left turn

I have the same problem when making left turns. We don't want to have smaller mirrors. What we need are side mirrors that is mounted about 2 inches lower so that it won't block your line of sight when making left turns.

Side view mirrors are excellent IMO and I would not want them changed. Of course, I am so tall that I couldn't even get a model with a sunroof (have base model Genesis).

Maybe you should raise the power seat up?

I am 5'8" and raised the seat as high as I can. Many roads have a small raised (about 6") concrete barrier separating the two sides of the traffic. In the Genesis the left rear view mirror totally block out the barrier. I have to move my head left and right to fix the location of the barrier and not run over it. The bottom edge of the rear view mirrors on my other cars line up with the window sill and provide a clear view of the barrier and people walking across the road.

1. An On-Star type of system when the air bags deploy
2. A holder for the iPhone, not just the cable
3. I second changing the trunk design so that water doesn't drip in when opening it.
4. Replace the Hyundai H on the back with a Genesis badge
5. Ability to reprogram the Mode selection order or at least be able to go backwards.

Had my 3.8 for exactly one week now. I've come up with three annoyances so far that would be simple to change.

1. Either shrink or position the side mirrors lower. I'm like the poster above where I have to hoist myself up to make certain left turns. Making a left turn at the top of a hill is quite hazardous.
2. More storage outside of the center console for cd's, glasses, etc.
3. A place to rest your left foot when driving.
4. Same seat position adjustments for the passenger seat as on the driver's side.

...Remote Start!!!
...Electronics (radio/phone etc) that stays on after switch is off
...Fog Lights that work with only the parking lights on
...Turn Signal/Lane change function that gives 3-4 flashes for passing
...Motorized fold-in mirrors
...All LED tail lights/turn signals

A firmer suspension/recalibrated suspension

A way to search or rapidly scroll through iPod lists

SACD capability (MAY cost, but I doubt it'd be much as parts cost goes... it's the licensing that might be a problem)

More input options for navigation and a way to back up one level (the system is smart, but not THAT smart... if I select the wrong city I don't want to have to start over!)

Autoblink indicators (on a benz, if you tap the lever to indicate lane change it blinks three times. That CANNOT cost much to add)

A distance to empty readout that's actually usable. I can see going to --- at 10 miles left. 30? C'mon!

A bit more wattage from the stereo and a separate subwoofer level/eq setting. System is the best I've ever heard in so many ways... I just want a TEENSY bit more from it.

Actually, I'd love to see a 'sport' package available. More aggressive suspension, better wheels and tires.

As for getting rid of the H? IMO, Hyundai needs to keep it on there but may want to consider restyling the logo to something more upmarket. This car can help move their brand upmarket. Or, they need to simply adopt Genesis as a sub brand akin to Lexus, and use the engine designations as models. Genesis 3.8. Genesis 4.6. Genesis Equus. Genesis Coupe. I can say this, it WOULD be good to have a separate buying experience and/or a dedicated Genesis 'consultant' on staff / in service. The buying experience was shocking coming from what I'm used to with Merc, BMW, Lexus, etc.

Automatic Power Folding Mirrors
2nd Start - Automatically start from 2nd gear (My 06 GX spoiled me :p)
Power Trunk
Touch-Screen Display

These are the relatively "inexpensive" items I could think of to make it more lux

No touch screen display- I hate to keep cleaning finger prints!
Folding side mirrors- yikes....costly- Lexus LS430 are $920..trust me, I know!

My 5 inexpensive additions- (wish list)
1. Power retention after shut down and no door opening
2. Cooled passenger seat
3. Rear heated seats
4. Rear fog light- bright RED LED segment
5. Under hood light- (what happened here?) Oh, all non LED's should be replaced to save guys like me from spending an entire afternoon doing such while his girlfriend looks on just shaking her head...lol:cool:

Tweak the 3.8 so that it gets a 22 combined mpg rating instead of the current 21, so that it would be eligible for the "cash for clunkers" $3500 rebate.

I think that would rapidly end my search for a replacement for my aging Infiniti Q45.

Not sure about expense/cost, but here is my list:

1. Auto Up/Down for all four windows
2. Cooled Passenger seat (repeat from your list) ;)
3. Body colored, painted mud guards
4. Windows/sunroof opened using key fob
5. Daytime running lights (US models)

After further review . . . . . . . . can I have a 5a. ? What about a matching, full size spare?

I'd like the compass to continually self-correct based on the NAV's knowledge of the car's coordinates. It was mildly annoying not to have this on a recent coast-to-coast drive.

I'd like a quicker path to adjusting the brightness of the NAV display.

I'd like the NAV's voice volume to stay where I set it instead of reverting to the loudest setting during a drive. I suppose it's ok to revert to loudest at each power-on, but during a drive? No.

I'd like a button to force the seat to its all-back position while the engine is idling and I want to step out. As it is, I have to turn the engine off to make that happen.

Variation on last.

If I leave the car running and step out with the key I don't need a loud alarm blaring that the key isn't present...(my wife really doesn't enjoy that noise when left in the car)

1. Remote Start

2. Always on power outlets

3. Power on for 10 mins or so AFTER shutting the car off (I hate when I am on a bluetooth call and I have to either transfer the call or leave the car running to stay connected)

4. On star or similar system

5. Better designed "manual" shift mode. (when in this mode the shifts sometimes take too long, it bumps hard when coming to a stop and doesn't downshift quick enough when slowing down for a turn. Not very sporty!

All of the above, plus:

Those little pull-out extenders in the visors...real handy when the sun is coming in your driver side window and getting you right in the retina, because the visor is not long enough to block the sun!!!!

I guess I'll have to resort to my trusty old folded map, (held in place with a rubber band around the visor) to provide the additional blocking!!!

Just plain tacky.:o

Maybe, Acey, but quite effective! Nice tip. LOL @ tacky!
