  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

What did you do with your DH Genesis today?

I was in "manual" mode cruising at 65mpg and discovered that if you press down enough on the pedal for it to hit the "pedal to the metal" button, it'll down shift quite significantly for you and then not shift up until you tell it to!!
I think it went all the way down to 3rd gear!!

LOL

Boy that was quite a surprise and a real treat!

ADIOS GASOLINE!

This car is such a blast even with just the v6!

I added some black Di Noc Carbon Fiber pillar trim covers to my Genesis to cover the scratched and worn OEM piano black pillars. The last owner did not do a great job on protecting the exterior. I also have to buff out a lot of fine scratches in the paint. Nothing deep, but noticeable after a good washing.

I like the Di Noc material since it holds up well for years. I had some installed on my old 2004 Infiniti FX45 and it covered the faded pillars perfectly until I traded it 3 years after installing them.

The carbon fiber pillars look like a textured black design unless in direct light then it looks like real carbon fiber.

Today I did a drain-and-fill on my rear differential. Very easy on this car. I used Royal Purple 75w-90 gear oil.

My car is close to 60k miles , so decided to just drain the old fluid. The old fluid still seem good, however it was dark and the drain bolt magnet had some fine metal sludge on it. Most likely from the break-end period. Usually drive-train parts makes the most metal debris during break-end, hence why I usually change my fluid early the first time on cars I plan to keep for a while.

The drain and fill bolts are both 24mm bolts. My advice would be to level the car so that you will get an accurate fluid drain and filling level. I used four jack stands and a cross beam attachment on my floor jack to easily jack up one side at a time and then sit the car level on jack stands.

Tip: Always remove your fill bolt before draining your fluid just in case you have seized fill bolt. There nothing more frustrating than draining your fluid and then you can not fill it back up if the fill bolt is stuck. I learn that the hard way on a older Mercedes V8.:)

The Genesis up on jack stands.

The drain bolt removed.

Feel any different? Anyone know what kind of diff is in out cars? Wondering if redline shockproof might work better vs RP maxgear?

I have not tested today, but I only use RP gear oil in my rides. Mostly because they are easy to find locally as well as online.

Redline seem like it would be the better performing gear oil based on reputation, but I am cool with RP performance.

We have just a standard open differential, no mechanical limited slip unit. The brakes are used to control wheel slippage.

Cool, was told a while a go to use redline shockproof for torsen style mech diffs, clutch style use RP or something of that nature.

Sounds about right. However, it seems that many high performance owners seems to prefer Redline fluid regardless of the differential design. RP and Motul fluid seems to be the next preferred choice then follows Mobil1, Valvoline, etc. Well, at least on some German cars I used to own. I just use RP by default unless the rear differential need some special friction modifier added to the fluid.

Deleted a resonator today....

I know the purists will disagree with making a quiet old man car a little noisier, trust me it isn't as loud as the video makes it sound....
At least it doesn't sound that loud from inside the car.....

Removing the resonator does make it sound more sporty. Does the exhaust drone on the highway without the resonator?

No drone noticeable at highway speed. The cabin is well insulated in these cars for sure.

Cool. Seems like removing the resonator is a simple way to recover a few extra horsepower and gain a more aggressive exhaust note without messing up the ride quality. Hell, i may try the same thing on my 5.0 instead of buying a $1500 Magnaflow exhaust system as planned just to see how it sounds.:)

I would try to have an x-pipe installed in place of my resonator.

Def worth a shot! I don't know the exact details but the shop said there were something like two resonators or two catalytic converters or both? Lots of silencing going on. If both resonators were taken out they'd probably have had to do some glass pack muffler setup. Ya u def want to u leash some of that V8 snarl. But not too much of course. This isn't a Camargo SS after all ;)

LOL. I do not want a crude muscle car sound in such a elegant ride. However, I would like to hear a bit more grunt at full throttle.:)

From what I tell my ride has a single large dual entry/exit resonator right after the cats that feeds into two rear mufflers. I would only remove the large resonator and swap it for an x-pipe. It will sound more aggressive and make more power due to better exhaust scavenging by using the x-pipe. However, how loud it would be is unknown.

Post a vid of any exhaust changes you make! Would love to hear the progress.

Also just ordered the AEM intake for the V6.
Gotta let that motor breathe!

lol wut, naw, it does sound a bit better. I'm not a advocate for huge noise in a luxury sedan, but just a tad doesn't hurt either.

I'll find my go-pro suction cup mount some day soon and mount my camera to the bumper while I run it around.
To give a more real world example. Just to add this was a cold start/rev.
