  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

What have you Raced?

The reason you guys aren't seeing a big difference between the 4.6 and the 5.0 R spec is because your cars are stock. The first things that have to done to a R spec is a TIRE UPGRADE,INCREASE EXHAUST AND INTAKE AIR FLOW! You can accelerate to the cars potential if the ESC is pulling power like a 100 degree humid summer day. Leave the car in auto. not manual. The exhaust is so restrictive you might as well cap off the tailpipes. The pipe size and design are good but the secondary cats and rear mufflers must be replaced. The center resonator is a straight thru H-pipe design that flows well and eliminates some drone/ raspy sounds. The stock airbox is a good design and can be utilized once the resonators and filter are replaced. Once the R spec can get traction and breathe the only thing any 4.6 or 3.8 (sedan or coupe) will ever see is your taillights getting smaller from a roll or a dig. I pulled a manual 3.8 coupe so hard from a 20mph roll I thought he let out and hit the brakes. A stock Rspec sedan with traction and driven correctly should be capable of high 12 sec range.

Also my cousin in Ga. just informed me while driving home yesterday he witnessed some kid in a white Genesis R Spec sedan(probably in his parents car) racing a Lexus ISF (V8). They were in the triple digits and the Genesis was in front about a car length and holding. I would say that's a pretty significant kill.

I will neither confirm or deny how such a (not so young) kid would have tried to pull such a stunt in his almost stock R-Spec, while driving in the land of Ka & Laser laden heaven!!

I would imagine that @125 would result in a rather sever scolding by some people who do not take kindly to this sort of thing!

However, theoretically speaking, that 'young man' must had one hell of rush knowing that little old Hyundai can actually give the all mighty Lexus ISF a run for its money!!!

[EDIT] Originally, I was not going to comment on that particular post, but your observation about intake and exhaust modification resulting in a marked performance gains without any ECU modifications, compels me to mention that these upgrades may actually have minimal and in some cases negative impact, based on years of observation and testing....

I'm sure that man young or not knew he was breaking the law. We get challenged and the competitive hormone takes over. My cousin works for Hyundai and rarely sees a R spec on the street nevertheless racing so he called immediately to tell me what he saw.

As far as the performance gains on my car I will tell you that after the resetting the main ECU and the trans learning codes there were gains in low/high end acceleration from the mods. I'm sure with a ECU reflash the gains may increase but for now I'm satisfied. I also have 20+ years of modding and racing. I would sit my car next to a stock R spec any day and with a clean launch guarantee victory.

I whole heartily agree with you on the first point, it is a stupid thing for anyone to do! Alas, one can always find those idiots who can not help themselves under the right circumstances...

For the second point you hit the nail on the head, resetting the ECU and the transmission is the key point here, without doing so those gains can be marginal at best. Regardless, both the transmission and engine are capable of so much more...

For example (maybe at the cost of a new GPS head unit - they are thankful for that warranty), they may had the ability to muck around with the CAN interface and achieve a permanent ability to red line @ 7500RPM, even with stock configuration and after careful study, they concluded a significant edge was added, which may give most other R-Specs a run for their money...

Like the rest of us, I am sure they continue to live in the hope that someone will be able to fully crack open that stubborn ECU for our V8s, similar to was done for V6s / Coupes.. We shall see...:D

The important thing is everyone is happy, which is what this forum is all about..:grouphug:

To many to list, but exciting was a G8

R-spec vs intake/tune/exhaust G8 gt would be a good battle.

Agreed sir! I really wish some lonely soul would crack open the ECU so the true potential of the Tau can be unleashed. They seem to be afraid. I will never be that test vehicle. I tried that a few times and it has its "cons" believe me.

I'm surprised that nobody has figured out how to hack into the Tau ECU yet. Then again, nobody can figure out Lexus either. Maybe some day...

Whats up? Just picked up a 2013 Genesis Sedan 3.8

Havent got side by side with anyone yet, but some of you guys were racing some crappy drivers base don some of the cars I've seen, but a win is a win

Looking forward to modding

I have kept up with a Porsche Cayenne. I will not say how fast I was going, but I will say, he looked over at me and asked me what I was driving. I read his lips through the window and I mouthed back to him, a Hyundai.

He mouthed back HYUNNNNNNNDAI? I said yes. He seemed very pissed off I could keep up with him.

One thing I must say about the R-Spec V8 is the car reaches a sweet point in which it commands power and you have to give in.

Also, I was pulled over by a cop because he wanted to know what type of car I was driving. No ticket, no nothing. We had a very nice conversation. He loved the car.

I notice cops tend to overlook you in this car... :D

Sorry, I'm new here. Where can I find more info about resetting the ECU and trans?

Just picked up a used 2014 Genesis Sedan R-Spec.

I always avoid an eye contact at the stop lights, so I haven't been racing no one yet :(

You guys are lucky.

MrBrady, first welcome to the forum and congrats on your new purchase...

The ECU and Transmission do (eventually) adapt to your driving style, there is really no need to reset them unless you are experiencing some sort of issue!?

If you are not experiencing any issue, I would suggest that you take some time to implement few mods (example better tires, Rigit Collars etc) and get used to the performance envelop of the R-Spec, prior to trying to resetting the ECU...

If after 2000 miles of driving ("it like you stole it" :D), you still feel the need to reset the ECU/Transmission, please feel free to PM me...

Just my two cents...

Seriously.....those cars have so much power that I rather not to race others from the dead stop. I have more fun pulling away on the highway from ~70mph ;)
