  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

What is your biggest complaint about the Hyundai Genesis?

My current Genesis?

1. The iPod integration is clunky. Very clunky. There are work-arounds, but work-arounds shouldn't be necessary for such a device in a car like this.

Ipod integration is ok but could be improved. Losing shuffle when car is turned off, and no internal memory to speed going through playlists are deinite flaws

+2

Takes 8-10 seconds to load each screen of song/artist lists every time I start the car.
And the one thing I hate the most is the fact that every time I start the car the iPod starts playing. Even if I had the A/V off when the car was turned previously off. So annoying. Any ideas on how to make this stop?

So far my only complaint on the 2011 is the lack of power folding mirrors. I had them on my Azera and I miss them.

6: voice command doesn't work very well for me. SoCal accent?

I have the same problem with southern accent. Maybe it isn't us?

I think the passenger seat should have the same amenities as the driver's seat. Sounds crazy, but I like heated steering wheels and this doesn't have one. And water dripping into the trunk after washing. I open the trunk and dry it off.

Ditto on the passenger seat. I wish the switches on the dash didn't scratch so easily, because that aspect of the car IS cheap. Also, I would like it to be std that all four window switches were auto up and down. My $26,000 Passat has that feature.

Finally, the light colored leather in my 3.8 Driver's seat is darkening, despite my attempts to keep it clean, and I don't like the darkened color.

Any suggestions on how to get the color back, short of redyeing the whole interior? I only have owned the car 8 months, and 12,000 miles.

This is the reason I only get black interiors.

Odd about the interior. I have the Cashmere color and after 18 months and 15K it looks brand new. I even wear jeans to work a couple a days a week which is hard on the interior too.

What are you using to clean it? For a long time I used Turtle wax leather cleaner/conditioner. However, TJ Park on these forums suggested Lexol in a thread. I tried it and will never go back to anything else.

My biggest issue is with the lack of functionality of the Tech DIS system. I doesn't integrate the XM Traffic properly (does not route based off of traffic). It lacks the ability to download phone contacts. The standard way of entering an address is totally backwards. And as others have mentioned, the IPOD integration is not as good as it should be.

Just bought a 2011 4.6. I have had it for a couple of weeks now. Overall, I love the car. It drives great. I can't wait to take it on a long road trip. My kids also think it is very cool.

My biggest complaints at the moment have to do with the tech stack. Lack of bluetooth streaming and the crude ipod/usb interface. The DIS system should be able to read ID3 tags and provide for sorting, selection, etc. by tags. Basic $50 MP3 players can do this. Also, why can't music be stored on the HD? I don't see anything going on with Nav system that would need 40GB of data. My Garmin has more/better functionality and doesn't require that much storage space. Get rid of the 6 disc DVD and improve the ipod/usb/storage tech.

I would probably have similar complaints of the tech in other vehicles as well, proprietary stuff like this always has issues. The best in car tech implementation I have seen so far is the Sync systems in the Fords. It would be nice to see car manufacturers develop standards or adopt a similar OS (Android?) for in car tech. I am not talking about the cars internals, just the tech stuff bluetooth, media, networking, etc. That could be upgraded and improved. I think the smart phone market rallying around Android is a good model. It would allow manufacturers to add their own flavor, but have a stable platform underneath to form the base of the Tech stack.

Other thoughts. In my limited use the Nav system seems to work well, but naming streets should be included. I would also like to see a cooled passenger seat, folding side mirrors and a lane departure warning system. I realize these options would increase the price of the vehicle, but I would have been willing to pay $1k-$2k more for the vehicle.

Overall I am pleased with the vehicle and hope to have many enjoyable years driving the Genesis. All of the things I mentioned are nice to haves, but nothing so severe as to damage my overall enjoyment of the vehicle.

Love the car but to add to the thread:

1. OEM tires are not good, car is trransformed with Pilot Sports A/S Plus

2. Steering could be tighter at higher speeds.

3. Passenger seat adjustments.

Bought a 2011 4.6 Titanium with black interior. Love the car but have taken it back to the dealer 3 times for a pull to the left on the freeway. It's much better now but still pulls to the left on some freeways. My BMW 5 Series never pulled in either direction. I may take it back again for this item.

I have had a 2010 3.8 for 6 months now----The problem I have, and have had, is the hard hard ride.....It never has "softened up" and everybody who rides in the car brings it to my attention too......Sort of takes the joy out of what otherwise would be a great car.....Will have to get rid of it soon as I cant take the jarring bumpy ride about town, every day, day after day a jarring ride.........Its great on the hwy but I dont ride the highway that much.....very disappointed

Did the car(s) you test drove before purchasing have a softer ride? Mine rides exactly the same as the 3 I test drove.

The tires are crap, and all the stone chips that are appearing on the rocker flare just in front of the rear tires.

what would be your biggest complaint about your Genesis?

I'll throw in a little one: the screen in the instrument cluster.

It's extremely basic compared to competing systems that display music/nav information there... and you can't change its display language. So you have my dad driving around with an instrument cluster screen in English and a DIS screen in French... which just looks horribly mismatched.

There are a few other subtle little things about the 2009 that bother me, but I gather from this forum that at least some have been changed in 2010/2011.

Actually, now that I think of it, bigger complaints: Hyundai Canada decided to screw Canadian buyers of 2009 V6s out of the leather dash. And Hyundai Canada is not giving free map updates. And their dealers... don't get me started.

40 Gig hard drive and none of it available for us to use!

.

Have to Thank You, picked up the Lexol Cleaner and conditioner, and the GREY CAST came off the leather along with a bunch of dirt the previous cleaner did not pick up. (The previous cleaner was Advance Auto Parts own brand cleaner/conditioner). The leather still has creases, so it doesn't look "new" but that may be due to my 250 lbs size. The color, however, is back to new.
