  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

What is your biggest complaint about the Hyundai Genesis?

Too many things gone wrong and a dealership network ill equipped to work on the vehicle. Latest thing gone wrong, driver side power seat just quit and my trunk will not open using the door switch or key fob button. I have to open it with the key. I checked the fuses and relays and all ok. This car is killing me. I just don't know what will be next.

All of your issues should be solved by the dealer. My 2011 4.6 has been perfect and we now have 26000 miles on it. You should demand that the dealer get their s**t together and fix the things wrong, that is what the warranty is for.

Did you check to make sure that button in the glove box (valet button) is in the correct position? It is designed to not allow access to the trunk if in a certain position except with the removable key.

OK, 3 weeks into ownership and a few added comments from my observations:

1) Would be nice to have pax side cooled seats to match driver's side. It's heated, after all, so the seat itself should be rigged for it. For the sake of domestic tranquility alone with my wife when getting into hot seats in Houston, this should happen! :)

2) Ride: a minor squabble, to be sure. I enjoy the ride overall, but wish the front suspension were a little firmer, especially in turns at moderate speed. Just a little more, um, German, I suppose insofar as firmness.

3) Tilt wheel and auto-entry/exit setttings for wheel/seat: this is probably my biggest gripe so far. The electronics are a bit squirrely and starting to piss me off actually. I've had to reset the tilt wheel three times already, and have to reset my preset seat positions. The lumbar support also resets, which is irritating.

I reset my wheel at least once a month, probably more.
Not even close to the wind noise for annoyance.

You posted this in another plae. I gave a suggestion to that post that you check the valet button in the glove compartment. There is a button in the glove compartment that keeps the trunk from opening when it is pushed. It is intended to keep a valet from opening your trunk.

Still think the ride is too stiff and on bumpy roads car bounces all over the place. 20,000 miles and this is really my only comp[laint about the car. The dealer experience leaves a lot to be disired especially if you have been driving a Lexus or Infiniti like I have. Its not just the lack of loaner cars or no doughnuts, the dealer personnel just do not look or act professionally enought for me. They would do better to adopt the same plan that they have for Equus and that is to keep the customer away from the dealership by picking up the cars and returning them.

I could actually buy the Equus and the last time I was at the dealership for an oil change I actually climbed all over the Equus and did everything but stand on the roof and was completely ignored by sales people standing around talking to each other.

Hydundai better get on the ball if they hope to compete with the other high end cars because price alone will not do it.

I am not real fond of the low 1st gear and the quick shift into 2nd gear when normally pulling away from a stop. It would seem to me that 2nd gear is low enough to not even engage 1st under normal circumstances. Also notice that in spite of of the respectable torque, the tranny likes to kick down given the slightest pressure on accelerator when doing about 40-50. Seems unnecessary. Not really an adaptive transmission.

You have a bad dealer. Move to Atlanta (just kidding) and Rick Case Hyundai will give you coffee, donuts, cookies, nice flat screen Tv in waiting area, a loaner when needed and did show me an Equus. BTW the Genesis was not even purchased at Rick Case but great service just the same.

From what I have seen on the forum the complaints are as follows:
1) Tires
2) Suspension set up ( Not to forgiving on rough pavement)
3) Tilt Steering wheel issue
4) Rough start and engine shake
5) Navigation update
6) loss of Audio and no antenna error message
7) Dis control knob failure

Please note that I am very happy with my 2010 Genesis 4.6 and have had very few problems. After changing my tires I do not find the ride that much different from the 2007 Lexus LS460 that I owned with the 235-50-18 97V Grand Touring Tires.

Majority of posts =

bad Tires
bumpy ride/needs suspension tuning
mediocre snow performance
passenger seat need same options as drivers
transmission tuning(when it downshifts, holding right gear etc)
needs power folding mirrors
little electrical features past cars had, that are not on this one...basically things they had gotten used to, so not inherently "wrong" just missing

a fear were 2009 specific that were changed in 2010 or 2011 cars

Also....quite a lot were actually talking more about their dealer than the actual car...as in i had XXXXXX problem and my dealer is giving me the run around etc

of course for every post of a negative thing a few people say they do not agree...etc

ur welcome...good thread though...you should go through it when you have the time

bad Tires

more than half new cars/trucks come with tires that owners can't stand so not a "genesis" imo

bumpy ride/needs suspension tuning

something along the lines of personal preference. everyone should take one on a LONG test drive and see if this setup is one they prefer

mediocre snow performance

RWD sedan. outside of putting dedicated snow tires on you are going to have this scenario every time it snows (i've owned rwd cadillacs, mercury's, fords chevy's, etc NONE were "good" in the snow)

passenger seat need same options as drivers

absolutely. but it's the price of doing business. hyundai cut corners in a few places that i was able to live with (no pass cooled seat, heated steering wheel, auto up rear windows)

transmission tuning(when it downshifts, holding right gear etc)

yep. waaay too much torque management in the upshifts as well. but the ZF trans masks the tuning to a degree it is an AWESOME trans. until someone shows me the new 8spd is a ZF unit (which it isn't) i am glad i have one

needs power folding mirrors

fixed for '12. not something i am concerned with as only on my lux SUV's did i ever use this feature, on a car where the mirrors barely stick out beyond the door handles is a moot point, would've rather seen them put $$ into a cooled passenger seat or more passenger seat adjustments

little electrical features past cars had, that are not on this one...basically

?????

just my opinion

Dear MHT, Faboo, and Tony:

Thanks Sooooooooooooo much for the summary !

1. I have a problem with tires too.

What do you recommend?
235-50-18 97V Grand Touring Tires?
How about Micelelin tires?

Check the threads under tires. There you will find a lot of info on several brands. Mine have been replaced with Bridgestone Turanza Serenity W rated.

I have 700 miles on the Michelin Energy Saver 235-50-18 97V and I really like them. I believe they are better than the Michelin Pilot HX mxm4.

Radio is complete junk. Bluetooth implementation is completely flawed, the voice recognition is the worst, the processor cannot handle long names and/or more than 20 names in the addressbook, and there's no digital reception (so-called "hd radio").

To top it off, they integrated it with hvac indicators so you lose capability if you add after-market. BAD bad.

That is my #1 complaint.
Nav sucked during my eval prior to purchase so I didn't pony the extra coin for it.

I love the firm suspension - please don't change that! This is a SPORT sedan, that's what sells, that's what I bought. :D

MODERATORS: Can you make this a poll? Would be nice to have opinions tallied.

I think you'll find many that disagree with you about the radio, although if you don't have the Tech package, you have a totally different setup.

As far as the poll goes, I'm not sure what options you are referring to, but you are more than welcome to start a new thread with the poll options you desire.

The 17 speaker Lexicon has been reviewed as one of the best sound systems in the automotive industry. So i guess, to each their own.

The Lexicon 17 speaker has been reviewed to be one of the best in the automotive industry. My voice commands and the bluetooth work perfectly and my addresses are over 20 so I don't get your problems. However I do have a 2011 4.6 tech pkg Genesis. Maybe thats the difference.

I don't have the Tech package. I do have the 14 speaker Lexicon, and the sound is phenomenal. I'd be interested in knowing what the poster thinks is "junk" about the sound system.
