  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

What surprises have you "found" in your car...

The mirrors on my 2011 don't fold in. I wonder if it's a model year thing or because you have an R-Spec.

It's new in 2012 with anyone who has either the Premium Package or Technology package. It doesn't come with the basic model.

Yep, standard on the 2012 4.6, 5.0 and R-Spec, optional on the 3.8 with Premium Package. Sorry, I should've said that.

Still... it is a fun little "toy" when you know you're gonna show off the car to someone. Not that I do that.

Yes I do.

Lol I do the same thing, I'm like "watch this" and then their like wow you have a transformers car!

After 18 months of daily reading of this forum I "discovered" the trunk release above the license plate...:o

After owning the car for 18 months and taking a 2 month trip across Canada and back through the upper US (what awesome scenic countries we both have), but I digress.......

After 18 months I still love driving this car!!!

rear sunshade (if up) drops down when car is put in reverse. Then goes back up when put in drive. 2012 R-spec.

Is there a full list of voice commands I've overlooked?

It retracts, if up, SO YOU CAN SEE TO BACK UP.

Not sure if this has been mentioned yet, but you don't need to press the break when starting the car. Just press and hold the starter button for more than 20 seconds. This "feature" enables starting the car if the ECU isn't getting the signal from the break pedal.

I was using the navigation tonight and just learned that if you hit the "Disp" button on the steering wheel you have a new nav option that isn't there when navigation isn't running. It displays the "next step" information including street name, direction and distance. Very nice feature to be able to put it on the screen right in front of you since I sometimes change the main screen to something else while navigating.

I couldnt get this to work on my 2010 Gen w tech. Is it a new feature for 2012 model? I would love this feature.

So, if you break the brake, then you can hold the starter button for 20 long seconds?

Interesting question - I was wondering why you would want to hold the starter button for 20 seconds rather than step on the brake (break?) for 1 second. If the brakes are broken, maybe you shouldn't be starting the car anyway?

The 20 second thing is for a failure of the electronic sensor-------not the brake pedal or brakes.

If the brake pedal or brakes aren't working, you'll know it when you press on the pedal.

My wife was driving our 2011 R-spec and I was driving in front of her. I noticed that when she turned on the turn signal, the extremely bright daytime driving light turns off on that side making the turn signal very visible. It comes right back on after turn signal goes off.

Very nice programming.

Yea I notices that when I see a reflection of the car in the vehicle in front of me...at first I thought i was seeing things but after I actually observed it, I thought, 'well, ain't THAT kewl?"

Just discovered on the Canadian 3.8 Tech. With daytime running lights on, a turn signal turns OFF that headlight making the turn signal easier to see. Not with full ( nitetime ) lights on.

There's an electrical switch that tells the system that the brake is depressed. If that switch isn't working, the car won't start. It has nothing to do with whether the the brakes are working or not. The Genesis Coupe has two of these on the clutch pedal, one that insures the clutch is fully disengaged before starting and one that detects a small movement of the clutch pedal that disengages the cruise control.

An over ride to provide an alternative method to start the car if the switch fails simply makes sense.

That I believe is a Chrysler first and all of them do that. Also noted Audi has started this and more to follow suit I would expect.

Two things the salesman told me that weren't true:
1. that the interior lighting level is adjustable
2. that placing the key fob in the console slot will recharge it

One thing I just assumed the Genesis would have, but doesn't, is an aux outlet for rear seat passengers to use.

Turning the car on in public is an event in and of itself! The lights do what my cousin can only describe as a "shimmy-shimmy"; They adjust themselves in a way that is just about as cool as the other side of the pillow.

I've also "discovered" that the smart cruise control is actually pretty smart; if someone gets in front of you, but matches or exceeds your current speed, it will NOT slow you down. Passing cars are no longer an issue :)

I also "discovered" today that my rear passengers are totally appreciative of the heated seats, and that they work instantaneously! Good to know, since I haven't even sat back there LOL.

We recently took a quick trip of 2100 miles in 3 days (round trip). Had one passenger in the rear seat who loved the heated seats except that they kept unintentionally depressing the button to turn them on. It got to be a bit of a hassle. Since they're on top of the rear console it would have been nice to have them covered someway.

I found the smart cruise to be an exceptional safety feature on that trip and you're right about it not slowing down if the car in front matches or exceeds your speed. I noticed many times that I'd look down at my speedometer and see that I was going ten miles per hour or under my setting and then realized it was automatically keeping a set distance from the slower car in front. It's a priceless feature.
