  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

What would it take to get you to buy a 2014 Genesis?

If the car could make me rich, better looking, younger, and included one of those Korean models from the website, I would be sold. Otherwise my 2012 is good for at least five years.

Amen! :D

1. Improved IPod interface. I want to be able to search for a song or an artist by name, via voice, a la Ford Sync, without having to slowly page through hundreds of pages of music

I use the iPod heavily and the current interface is very frustrating. If the '14 R-Spec looked good, had a better iPod interface, a smarter transmission and dual mode exhausts (so when I floored it I got some angry V8 noise), I'd be sorely tempted to upgrade.

My apologies in advance for the lack of brevity here; it's been a while since I've been on this forum! Also, I hit the Houston Auto Show last weekend and hung out for a few at the Hyundai space. The lady there was EXTREMELY helpful, friendly and, when I told her I owned a Genesis, she wanted to know how I liked it. When I shared a few minor gripes, she actually wrote them down! I was impressed.

Anyhow, here's the quick and dirty for me.

I love my 2011 4.6. I think it's a bad move to only have the 3.8 and the R-Spec moving forward. I don't make these decisions and fully understand the economics of it, especially when it comes to having 3 different engines. Moreover, I think Hyundai needs to be careful about cannabilizing their own brand: the top line Azera isn't much different from an entry-level Genny now, features wise. The high end Genny is now a muscular, more robust sport/lux sedan and will lack the lux refinements that drew me to it in the first place! And I'm not contemplating jumping up to an Equus--it's just not in the equation for me right now.

My Genesis gets tons of comments, raves about it and Hyundai, surprise and shock about what a nice car it is. I agree. Yeah, there's the minor bitches like why the front pax seat isn't also cooled (makes NO sense to me whatsoever) and the electronics still need refinement with stuff like iPod integration, etc. The ride could be a bit firmer or have adjustable suspension on next gen Genny.

But I'm not going to be buying any car in 2014, and it's FAR too premature to consider what it would be when that time does come. The Genesis will be in the hopper, perhaps, we'll see. But I'm bummed about the direction of the Genny line in general.

It would have to be free after my experience with Hyundai. All the bells and whistles and tech stuff you can jam in a car don't make up for a horrible company that produces it...

Based on videos that you've posted here, it looks like you live out in the middle of nowhere in some desert. However, can't you find another dealer who might do better by you? Life is too short to stew in your juices as you do. With a little extra work I'm sure you can find a solution to that tire problem that you have discussed elsewhere here.

My '09 V6 is great in most respects. Even the choppy rear-end ride has improved by changing out those horrible Dunlop OEM tires. In fact, the car has been trouble and rattle free and very quiet relative to the many Volvos I've owned over the years. However, I'd like to see better economy and a slightly smaller sedan in 2014. My current Genesis is just a little too large as it was designed more as a corporate limo for use in Korea (with a companay driver) than a sports sedan. In my eyes, the perfect 2014 Genesis would be the size of a 5 series BMW with a turbo four or six engine. It would be lighter and capable of at least 35 mpg. Forget the four-wheel drive and 19 or 20-inch wheels as both are generally overkill or just plain useless. From all I've read and seen, however, it appears that the next Genesis will be even larger, heavier and with four-wheel drive. I often keep cars for 10 years or more, so maybe it will be the third-generation Genesis that will be of interest me.

I live in Murrieta CA, in the heart of the inland empire in southern california, hardly a desert. I have visited two different dealerships about the issue, and was dumbfounded by the responses given to me by both service managers. I am not stewing in juices, I just don't appreciate buying a $50k vehicle only to be treated like some stupid child when it has a problem. Customer service is as important to me as the product, and in my experience, Hyundai's is the worst I've ever dealt with.

I'll take a TT 5.5L TAU with a 7sp MT, or 7sp DSG. RWD, or Borgwarner torque vectoring diff, and a chassis weight no more than 3400lbs.

Trying to be realistic... :D

might realistically cost $80,000 but who's counting. :welcome:

A 2015, I'll wait for all the bugs and problems to be worked out.

You all have to trade up so that I can have a better selection of used 2009-2013 Geneses. :)

Hyundai’s chief designer admitted that Hyundai is well aware of the attempts their competitors have made to crack the upscale segment that is dominated by German automakers BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Audi.

Toyota Motor out of Japan has seen success in limited markets with their Lexus range, but automakers from other parts of Europe haven’t had any success at all.

I expect to be an early buyer of a 2014 Rspc. I will sell my 4.6L 2010 at 3 years old this summer and it will have 75,000 miles. And I expect to keep the 2014 for six years (150K miles). I have purchased many, many vehicles over the years and this will be the first one of the same make and model ever. That's how much I love this car.

I agree with pretty much everything others have said so far as to wants (the first few are demands!):

1. Better iPod interface and NAV
2. The saddle brown interior option with black exterior in the Rspc
3. Paddle shifters and a lower torque off the start - this thing is very slow off the line but incredibly fast after 40mph
4. LED driving lights like the Audi
5. I like my wood trim and steering wheel much better than what is out now.
6. Rear fold-down seats
7. A little more throaty exhaust sound. I don't want to go to afternarket exhausts.

Needs to be AWD.
More torque at low speed... And anti-police radar paint or technology....;-)

No indication that the 2G Genesis is any larger than the current one - and if it remains the same size, likely will be lighter due to greater use of ultra-high tensile steel, aluminum and other weight-reducing materials.

Also, AWD would be an option so if you don't want it, you don't need to get it (meanwhile, the vast majority of midsize luxury sedans sold in the snowbelt are w/ AWD).

The 2G Genesis will be getting a much more luxurious interior than the Azera and will see a bump in price which will put it $5-6k more than the Azera (note that the Azera doesn't have a lower trim, so a Genesis comparable equipped will be more like $8-9k more in price).

A 3rd engine option will likely be a TTV6 (probably won't see it until the MCE for the 2G Genesis).

For me, a column shifter would be ideal. The floor shifter takes up so much space. That space should be used for more cup holders or large pockets to put stuff. Or, at the very least, move the ashtray and cig lighter as that space could be used on other ways noted.

I just leased my Genesis and love it.
But one point would be great:
The screen interface to be Android based. Of course it would be always a touch screen.
In other words: The user would have a full tablet in the dashboard.
NO learning curve!!!
Ease of use.
Owners manual and help always available.
Prices moving down. Functionality moving up.
Easy update.
I don't know the details. But there is a Cadillac model that anticipates this trend.
