  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

The R Spec Genesis Coupe I owned (2012) was electronically limited to 149. 133 for the sedan doesn't surprise me.

This guy tops the 2012 3.8 out at 250kph or 155mph. I didn't read the comments to see if it was a GDI or MPI or if there are regional differences in the governed top speed.

Actual test on a competitor's on plant 2 mile quality test track. I Was driving a 2012 3.8, hit 159 indicated. Another reason why I went out and bought a 5.0. Have not taken it on the same location yet. Hope to by end of October.

That's a V6 sound, plus it sounds just like mine. ;)

I don't understand. You went out and bought a 5.0 because you tested the 3.8 at 159mph? Was that not fast enough or something? Not trying to be a smart ass, just found your post confusing.

The title of the video says 3.8. I don't think they sell the Genesis in Europe, but the post above says 250 kph so the is obviously not the US version (but could be Canadian version).

What gets me about that video is that the seatbelt warning is flashing on the dash the whole time. WTF?

I have a 2011 V6 and came into a straight away that was about 4 miles long. Was going 80mph or so when I got into the straight away and put the pedal to the floor. It seemed to top out at 145mph. The last mile or so it didn't seem to be increasing in speed.

Because I COULD buy the V8 version. What is wrong with that? V6 is amazing.. V8 as a choice for me is even better.

My 3.8 V6 2012 tops out at around 105 MPH..

At least that's when my wifes grip on my arm gets to strong I fear she'll rip my arm off!!

Ok, I guess it was the way you wrote it that confused me. Nothing wrong with the V8. Like I said, I was just genuinely confused by the point you were trying to make.

:D That's when MY wife yells "SLOW DOWN" too. HA! It cruises well at 90 as well...

Thanks for that info Rod the tires are V-Rated so that sounds about right!

Do we have an actual top speed on the V8 model yet? Some say 155, 159, 161, but what can it really do in MPH?

I've had mine to 155, but I'll be honest with you, once it hit 150, it felt light and floaty. I wasn't comfortable going that fast and never took it past 140 after that run.

I was running wider, summer tires too, but with the stock suspension, the car didn't feel planted above 150 mph.....

I traded my 2009 Genesis V8 Tech in on a 2013 Audi Q5 3.0T S-Line, this year.
I looked at a new R-Spec, but the dealer wouldn't come down off the price and only wanted to give me $14k for my trade. So, maybe I'll consider the next generation R-Spec, once I'm done with the Audi...

By the way, I had 82k miles on my Genesis at the time of trade and I NEVER had an issue with it. Was a fantastic car which I loved driving. Wife absolutely loved it too. She was sad to see me get rid of it.

Here's a run I did in My Audi a couple nights ago, because we were having this same "top speed" discussion in an Audi forum.... My Q5 is tuned, so quite a bit more power than stock. I sure wish someone would really get serious with aftermarket performance parts for the Genesis V8. The Q5 was dead on solid at 150 mph. It's 4300 lbs, and solid as a rock at speed.

Obviously I'm still lurking around the Hyundai forums. I'm still a big fan and advocate for Hyundai quality. Absolutely top notch...and now that Hyundai has invested a big chunk of change into a testing facility in Germany, I think we're going to see some serious suspension and steering improvements.
