  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I finally got a set of winter wheels and tires I'm happy with and I can't get them on my car because I can't find the wheel lock key. Should I be looking somewhere other than the globe box?

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
I would try the glove box, console, map pockets, side pockets, and the spare tire well. Good luck!

Call purchasing dealer ask if they can obtain the key code and/or order it.

mine are in the spare tire compartment

Under the trunk floor, I fond a plastic package that looked like a set of wheel locks, but there were already wheel locks on the car. Then I realized that the package held 4 plain wheel nuts and the key for the wheel locks that were already installed. The package was sealed and had never been opened.

No such luck. It appears my car was delivered without the wheel lock key. I liked Ernie's idea so I called the dealer I bought it from two states away and all they could do was to take off the current wheel locks and allow me to buy a new set. Apparently there are 10 or so different key designs and they aren't coded. Each dealership has a master set that can open any of them. I went into my local dealer and they initially wanted to charge me $200 to remove the 4 wheel locks and replace them with regular lugs. I nearly blew my lid. I stormed out and called another dealer that was willing to pull the old locks for free. The original guy I had spoke with was in the lot so I approached him and asked him to work something out with me. I offered to buy the new lugs if he would remove the old ones. He was going to do that and replace with standard lugs, but low and behold, they didn't have any of the proper lugs in stock. They did have a new set of lock nuts. In the end, they used the new lock nuts and gave me the key. In the end, the guy comp'd the whole thing. It went from one of the worst service experiences to one I actually felt good about in the end.

Hope to put the snow tires on tomorrow.

glad it worked out for you but isn't the fault with the original dealer?
mine was in the pkg with the key and regular lugs that were removed, along with first aid kit and cargo net, if the original dealer didnt give you one he easily could have fedexed it no?

Unquestionably! These items are normally dealer add-ons and listed separately from the factory window sticker. If you didn't get the item, don't let the selling dealer off the hook.

The problem is the selling dealer no longer had the key. They would have had to send me the whole set of wheel locks with a new key. They weren't readily going to admit wrong-doing and I had no evidence. I had bought the car in May and it has 19k miles. As far as I know, the wheels had never been off it though. I had my share of problems with the delivering dealership. I negotiated the deal through email with the Internet manager and when I showed up for delivery, I was passed off to a young, inexperienced salesman. He didn't set up the blue link properly, forgot the wheel lock key, sent me driving to NH with temporary RI plates (found out several days later this was a huge no-no). I also found several cuts in the leather seating surface (not all the way through) on the rear seat several weeks after delivery. I don't know what they are from. I suspect they were put there carelessly while the car was prepped for delivery, but I have no proof. Anyway, I got a great price and a lousy dealer experience in RI. My local NH dealer has taken care of me well other than the initial attempt to fleece me for removing wheel locks.
