When to get the 1st oil change?

I think I heard that the Genesis can put a lot of miles on it before its 1st oil change (10K miles?)

When did you guys get your first oil changes?

I think the manual says 7,500 miles if normal driving and 3,000 for extreme driving. Dealers will say 3,000 miles for every oil change. I changed mine at 6K so I am not a purist.

There was much discussion on oil in another thread. I changed mine to M5-20 after 1600 miles and I am very happy about that. The old oil had a lot of microscopic metal particles from the break-in period. Now the car runs much smoother, and the mileage increased by about 10%.

Depends... If you leased it follow the owners manual. 7500 miles, regular oil.
If you own it, like I do , I changed the oil myself after 1000 miles to Mobil 1 5W-30. I plan on changing the oil every 6000 miles or 6 months and driving this car till it explodes. If you live in extreme cold, or extreme heat, than synthetic is probably a good way to go. Otherwise, there hasn't been solid proof that synthetics perform any better than regular oil in a consumer application.

Same for me. Did the first change at 1500. Will do the rest at religiously at 6000/6 mo.

My dad always used synthetics in his cars and did the long interval changes they claimed they could hack. I've always done 6K/6 in my two old Saabs and my Volvo. If I looked under a valve cover or if I had to pop a head, there was not an ounce of sludge build-up in the engine. I helped my dad work on his car and it was coated dark brown inside when I popped off the valve cover.

Interestingly, the Canadian Genesis manual indicates oil and filter every 6000km (3700 miles or so) or six months.

The "severe duty" recommendation is 5000km or 3100mi.

As I live near Toronto, which really has no more severe weather than chicago, detroit, nyc, etc. I wonder why I have to change twice as often?

It's a suggestion not a rule. Use common sense. Since you have 6 months of winter up there, I would be changing the oil more during the winter, and less during the times when it's not frigid. May-Oct you're probably ok. Nov-April, change it more.

Probably has something to do with the different regional Hyundai companies managing their region-specific warranty repair costs specifying different recommended maintenance cycles.

Just got my first oil change done today at 6700 Km's.
Switched to Castrol Syntech 5W-20.

Total cost tax and eniro fee was $83.00.

Not bad considering doing it myself would probably only save about 15 to 20 bucks

Yeah I did it myself with Mobil 1 and the whole bill with the filter was $40. The dealer wanted $90. I have all the tools, and yes, you need 1 or two special tools. But it's mostly the piece of mind. FYI if you're gonna do it yourself, don't put all 6.9 quarts in the V8, it's too much. Because of residual left over only fill 6.25-6.5. Then check. It's like cooking steak. undercooking can be fixed, overcooking, well, you catch my drift.

I stood there and watched the guys do it, so I made sure it was done properly, plus I was standing there talking to the service manager who wants to buy my car when his lease is up on his Saab in January. He loves the Korean badges.

So I know it was done right!
