  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Why does the Hyundai Genesis have only one cooled seat?

The lack of a cooled passenger seat is, indeed, a mystery. For some of us old timers it is reminiscent of the first Mustang. The early Mustang (known as the 1964 1/2) came with a fixed/non-adjustable bucket seat for the passenger. The oversight was corrected on the later 1965 models.

Mustang trivia: There is officially no such thing as a 1964 1/2 Mustang. All first year models are registered as 1965s; but all Mustang collectors refer to the earliest introductory models as 1964 1/2.

Thank you for the history lesson, John! That certain is interesting.. I think a non-adjustable seat is pretty much worse than a non-cooled seat! :p A major oversight indeed.. At least it was fixed quickly.

I hope Hyundai reconsiders the single-cooled seat because if they want to play with the big dogs, they're going to need to put up the cash. I can't think of ANY luxury automotive manufacturer who'd have ONE cooled seat in a vehicle. If Mercedes, Lexus, BMW, Audi (etcetera) did a thing like that, they'd be laughed at big time.

This is one of the things that have bugged me about the car. I really want this to be a home run for Hyundai. I have never owned one, but if this car is what it is reported to be, I will drive this thing all over the place and point at the Hyundai logo to all that I pass.

I have scoured the internet looking at photos of the car and it really looks as if the driver seat is the only one that will be cooled. I believe both the driver and passenger seat will be heated though. My wife's 05 Avalon has heated and cooled seats. There is no way I can own another car without the cooled seats option!

I live in Dallas. The auto show is in town this week. I am planning to go and really hover over the Genesis. Hopefully it will be there. I read that it was not at the Fort Worth show a couple of weeks ago.

Keep us posted, GenFan. I'm as curious as you are. And I do hope they reconsider the single cooled seat. That's very thrifty and thrift is not what this car is supposed to be about.

It appears the Korean version of the Genesis gets Dual Heated/Cooled Seats!

It also appears they get a ton of additional options that are incredible! Check out that rear entertainment/media center, rear heated and power seats. Look at all those buttons! I don't know if I really need all that stuff but I know I want it!

This site loads very slow but there are some great photos!

Hmmm, interesting. I like the starting screen that saids Genesis, much like my Grand Prix does, where it lit up displaying 'GP'. As for the rear screen, I heard that it is an option. I am not sure if it will be standard in the US bound models. Also, it seems like Hyundai have read all the complaints that BMW got on their Idrive, incorporating the 6 hot keys that you can control seperately. So, the smart cruise can't detect the 2 wheeled bikes, or the cars that pops in front of you? Hmmm.

Thanx for posting it. Also, if the heated/cooled seats are standard in Korean version, same thing may be true for North American bound models, for Hyundai always ships the superior version to the American shore compared to the home market version.

Also, I read the Korean brochure for the Genesis from the net a while back that it has remote controls for all monitors on the seats. Talk about lazy people friendly. :P

I'm not a big fan of those wheels. The design just looks too busy for my taste; and when I see the logo on the center cap, I think of this:

Bentley has a similar logo as well. I'm sure there will be several wheel options available..

The Chrysler 300C looks so much like a Bentley that people buy it to have a similar vehicle when they can't afford the real thing. It's not identical but there are so many similarities...

I don't think we'll hear much about anything in regards to law suits... There's way too many examples of cars that look like others. There are only so many designs... Could Hyundai have done a better job differentiating their design from others? Sure. But my opinion is that they're going to capitalize on doing it just the way they did.

Anyway. Let's keep this discussion on topic. Now that we're pretty sure the Hyundai Genesis will have two climate controlled front seats, we can almost take a breath of relief...

Well, the Korean automaker SsangYong(now owned by the Chinese of some 50%) once had the vehicle they were going to export to US called the Korando, but was sued by Chrysler, saying that it's verticle grill is too much identical to their Wrangler. Ssangyong later changed their grill to horizontally, but said, 'the heck with it, we will not export it to US'. The car that had Mercedes 220HP V6 engine on it which would have been a big seller if they had exported here. so, yeah, there COULD be a lawsuit if the other brands finds it is appropriate.

But yeah, to be back on topic, if the Korean version has it, so will the North American version.

As far as I know Hyundai is not planning to use this logo in the USA. The similarities may be one of the reasons.

True, lawsuits aren't impossible - just rare (I think). And yes, the Genesis badge is not coming to America...

The concept model looks too much of a "mean face" --which was the idea behind the Charger RT.. GRRRR!! lol... i'm glad Hyundai didnt follow the face "approach." The final model looks fine, although, I really like the winged emblem found on the Adaptive Cruise? I own the 2003 Hyundai XG and I'm looking to upgrade. But with this economy, I may have wait for the "Pre-Owned" model :(

First of all, welcome aboard. Well, personally, I would wait about an year to see how the Genesis hangs on. I don't really like getting a newly designed, or new model on it's year unless I HAVE to(if I need a car and if the model I am looking for is in its first year redesign). It will be better to have the Genesis to have a much needed track record set before you buy it in my honest opinion.

Welcome aboard! Thank you for signing up! Yes, there are going to be many people who say the same thing. The softer look is more appealing to many.. That's probably one reason so many Camrys have sold over the years. It's usually the enthusiasts who like the cars that stand out more than others - but there aren't many enthusiasts compared to non-enthusiasts...

Heated and cooled seats aren't high on my list of priorities either. The weather in my region just isn't severe enough to require them.

I'm still hoping for both front seats being heated and cooled. My back gets hot anytime I drive longer than about an hour even in only moderately warm weather so I know I would appreciate the cooled seats.

The Aston Martin logo - yeah - it looks like the others we've been mentioning here as well.. They're all very similar.

As for the cooled seats, I just want Hyundai to be competitive with this car. I could do without them as well.. They are "cool" though. :)
