  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Will you buy the new 2015 or wait??

I agree with that also. My 2011 V8 has not had one problem at all. I have owned it over 3 years and 60,000 Miles. Perfect!... That's why I am probably going to get a 2014. A known commodity.

Very good point. I just like all the new bells an whistles :)

I like them too, but I am trying to put a value on them. I do not do much long highway driving, so cruise control related things do not appeal to me. I do not think I used cruise control once in my last car. The Co2 stuff is fluff. The Nav appears to be just now current tech, although the HD screen is appealing. The stereo appears to be the same model. The BluLink remote stuff is available of earlier cars. Lane centering is nice, but I am not that disconnected from driving yet. The 2015 doe snot include CarPlay, which will be new tech.

To me the purported refinement in steering and suspension are more important things now available, as are the interior materials which appear to be more refined.

The interior "experience" looks MUCH nicer (to me) in the second generation Genesis. And, I prefer the exterior as well. Not taking anything, at all, from the first generation. It's an excellent automobile...

The 2015 will cost $15 Grand more than a comparable 2014. That's a big nut !

The same thing happened with the Lexus LS as it improved. It started at $35k in America/1989...

I am owned 3 Lexi... I'm done with them now. My 2011 Genesis is a much better car than my 07 GS350 ever was.

Lexus quality noticeably took a dive around the time the third generation GS went into production. The LS430 was a much higher quality vehicle than the LS460 as well. They've addressed these issues in the latest models - to some extent...

If Hyundai goes this route, I'll dump them just like I did Lexus.

That is what makes me leery about a completely redesigned model like the 2015 Genesis. The quality has yet to be determined. I am pretty much sold on a 2014.

My 99 Lexus GS300 was a great car. The 3rd Generation, not so much.

I have no doubt the quality of the second generation Genesis surpasses that of the first. To have it any other way would make no sense at all. No progress? Recipe for disaster. Hyundai is still improving. They're not going to rest on their laurels like Cadillac and Lexus have. At least not yet. I won't be surprised if it happens some day - but not right now. There's too much at stake at this point in time...

I agree. They have to much at stake to not put every effort into making this model year Genesis an all around improvement. From the ground up they changed most everything.

Even the two main parts (engine and transmission) that they kept from the current model year, they fine tuned to improve responsiveness (noted in the many reviews out now) and torque.

What impressed me most is the fact they took consumers complaints and improved those issues. Now I have yet set in the seat yet but from the reviews they went all out to improve the seating in this MY.

You can visually see improvements to the elimination of the loose fitting leather to the additional adjustments (12 way) that you now have in the drivers seat. That alone means they listened to the consumer and took something that was bad and improved upon it.

Some of the more important things that hasn't been talked about much is the 9 airbags. Side, front, rear, knee & roof mounted airbags. Something I found out when I joined this forum is they (current & past MY's and new MY) have an Anti-whiplash front head restraints.

This is an awesome feature that should be mandatory on every vehicle.

Other items that are probably minor to others but great little features are the front & rear auto up/down power windows with pinch protection. No longer you have to hold down the button to get the window to go up or down.

Power tilt and telescoping steering wheel. My wife's new 2012 Honda Civic EXL which is their top of the line model has to be done manually. Even more annoying on that car is the seat adjustment. In order to raise and lower the seat you have to pump this lever up and down to raise and lower the seat.

The added paddle shifters gives this car that manual transmission feel without having to work the clutch. I have never driven a car with these and am looking forward to trying them out.

I find it rather impressive that all the reviews compare this to the 5 series and E class. Comments like the ride, noise levels and luxury are now on par+ with these German luxury sedans. This was definitely not the case of the previous model nor did any of the reviewers compare it to E class or Mercedes for that matter. In fact the previous model was more compared to a Chrysler 300/Avalon. I am seriously considering a change, most likely to a fully load V6 with AWD. I love the power of my present V8 however I never really use it close to its potential. My dealer will be getting one in 2-3 weeks as a demo ride which I will definitely be taking for a long hard spin. ;)

While from ground up is a good thing, major changes also bring in new issues with all manufacturers. In someways, the old model was easier to improve - they has years of real world data and pressure from consumers and dealers. It appears the 2014 did address the major issues that were not correctable without a platform change (suspension, etc.) First year models usually a shake out year or so, especially one that is a new platform. BMW had issues with the F10 5 series for the first year or so and that model was a less radical change. I am hopeful that most of the bugs are sorted out, but a few hours of seat time in Arizona by reviewers will not find the issues that will creep up, especially in a car packed with goodies. How fast Hyundai addresses them will determine the future.

Okay I'm taking a temporary step away from the 2015 Kool-Aid for the moment to play a benign devil's advocate. Here are my subjective nits (and I'm only coming up with these to curb my own enthusiasm until they come out with the AWD V8 model):

  1. Does anyone else think the dash itself (not the center console, just the dash) looks a little... conservative, maybe to the point of appearing slightly dated?
  2. I'm curious about the in-grill sensor (the one that looks like a hidden license plate). The previous model year manages to implement adaptive-cruise control without the sensor being so obvious. I'm assuming the 2015 sensors are likely more accurate or responsive and required for the emergency braking, thus the need for change
  3. The Achilles heel in general seems to be fuel mileage, but hey you wanna play, you gotta play. I love the 5.0 V8 and treasure the infrequent opportunities to "turn it loose."
  4. AWD on the V8 will further accentuate the previous point
  5. I know they're using more high-strength steel and a stiffer structure, but I wonder how much stiffness the previous model year would gain by adding a strut tower brace? In other cars I've owned, the strut tower brace has made a noticeable difference.

Okay the list is highly subjective and academic, and is about all I can come up with. I've loved the Genesis and will be fighting a constant battle with myself once the AWD V8s come out :-).

That's a good point. I forgot about that. Yes, more often the first generation Hyundai Genesis was compared to a Chrysler 300, Toyota Avalon or a car like that. That being said, this was still a MAJOR accomplishment for Hyundai. The Chrysler 300 and Toyota Avalon were (and still are) excellent automobiles. To that point in time, Hyundai had never delivered anything like that.

While from ground up is a good thing, major changes also bring in new issues with all manufacturers. This is fact for basically all manufacturers. If you want the first year, you get the "cool" factor (exclusivity) of having something nobody else does - but trade reliability FOR that. If you buy the second year, you trade that "cool" factor for better reliability.

In the end, the person who buys the first year may not have the car running 100% until you get yours. BUT...... He'll have been enjoying ownership a year ahead of you. And if the car wasn't enjoyable for those 365 days or so - well - than maybe he/she should have purchased something else.

I like that! If only..

Here is another reason you want a V8, just look at that work of art. :D
