  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Will you buy the new 2015 or wait??

"A couple of hundred a year in gas difference is nothing for the extra power in additional ponies the V8 brings."

I agree with that statement... :)

Well. I was going to wait but when my dealer told me it could be 3 months before he had decent inventory I opted for a 2014 Equus demo I found at a dealer who agreed to roll over my current leased Equus into the new lease for an additional $14/month with $0 out of pocket. Maybe I should have waited by I now consider how much (to borrow a depreciation term) "useful" life I have left....so months to me are like years to most of you guys. The new Equus is Black/Ivory so it looks very different from the outgoing Granite Grey/Black.

Post up a pic Sandy, I would love to see a black Equus.

Will do. Picking it up on 4/28. With the Black Equus and right cap I could pick up a few bucks taking people to the airport.

The interior of the new Equus is quite nice... Huge improvement.

Well, I was going to get the 2015, but dealers here are all saying it will be summer before they have any significant numbers. And I'm not as patient a man as I used to be...

So I got a 2014 3.8 yesterday, with the premium package (sun roof, 14-speaker sound system, etc.). Caspian black with cashmere (tan) interior.

Kelly Blue Book and dealer Black Book both gave me similar trade-in values for my '13 Sonata Limited with 9900 miles on it, and CarMax offered me $19,000 for it (I paid $23K in November, 2012). Dealer first offered me $18k for it, but I was able to get him to bring it up to the $19k that everyone else was saying was realistic.

The Genesis went for $34,700, MSRP was $40,800. I'm happy, dealer's happy, wife is happy, and my prescription sunglasses are still in the glasses holder above the rearview of the Sonata.

Does this mean I'm banished from this thread...?

No, it just means you aren't looking at life through rose colored glasses!

I like the color combo. I have not seen any black Genesis cars with anything other than full black interior. I would have jumped on this one if it was available here.
Congrats!

Thanks. It's funny, the Sonata it replaced was red with a similar interior. I'd wanted a black Sonata, and was on my way to the dealership when I got a call that the one I had my eye on had been sold, so I ended up getting the red one with the tan/cashmere/camel/whatever interior.

Dealership isn't very close to my house - about 30 miles - but I like their pricing philosophy, which is, "here's our price, including destination, excluding only dealer prep, taxes, and tags." I had a damned good idea even before I left the house how much the car would cost; it's the second Hyundai I've bought from this dealer and the final price was about $50 off from what I'd calculated. The only uncertainty in the deal was how much I would get for the Sonata, and since I'd already looked up both Kelly and Black Book, as well as having gotten a written offer from CarMax, I was pretty sure what I could get for that, too.

I hate the haggling and the dishonesty you get with other dealer's pricing. I found another one at another dealer whose listed price was about $750 less than the one I bought, but when I asked them how much freight and dealer prep would add, I got, "It would be best if you come in and we can talk about it, and I know we can beat any other deal you can find..." Cripes, if you won't even tell me something that I know I could find out with a little internet research, why should I waste my time talking to you...?

We had some friends over for dinner tonight. On leaving, they asked to see it, so I hit the unlock button. Dang - the car lights up like Close Encounters of the Third Kind - red tail lights, white interior lights, yellow sideview mirror turn signals, yellow headlights, and white daytime running lights. All I need is a flashing red-and-blue light to put on the roof and I could give out heart attacks...

Pretty much decided on getting the Monticito Blue with ivory interior and AWD. Only last decision is V8 or V6. Either way it will be AWD, Ultimate package. :D The V8 is nice but need to drive to actually see the difference however I have a feeling it will be quite a bit. A couple of hundred a year in gas difference is nothing for the extra power in additional ponies the V8 brings.

I find it amusing to see people here talk about gas milage when talking about a $50,000 automobile. Now if we were on a Prius forum that is another story. If you do the math and assume 2 mi/gallon difference at $4/g and an average of 8,000 miles a year, it only comes to $152 a year more. Price wise that is equivalent to a nice restaurant with the wife and a nice bottle of wine. Just remove one of those from your yearly budget. :D

Funny you say that. I was just at a Prius forum before switching over here. Sure enough, we were talking about mpg :p

I also like the way the puddle lights light up when you walk close with the fob in your pocket. Sort like a friendly greeting.

I don't know what the AWD V8 gas mileage will be, but when comparing the RWD V6 and V8, the difference is more than 2 MPG on the US version.

EPA Mileage at http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/Find.do?action=sbsSelect

  • 2015 Genesis RWD 3.8L V6 - 22 mpg combined (18 city, 29 highway)
  • 2015 Genesis RWD 5.0L V8 - 18 mpg combined (15 city, 23 highway)
  • 2015 Genesis AWD 3.8L V6 - 19 mpg combined (16 city, 25 highway)

8,000 miles per year is quite low for the average American driver, and they tend to drive a fair number of highway miles. But for someone in your situation, even $300 or more per year more for gas is not a big deal. It looks like the AWD 5.0L mileage is going to be brutal, but we will have to wait for Canadian KPG numbers since the US version will be awhile.

I want to lease a 2015 Genesis, but I'm disappointed that Hyundai has put their "H" emblem back on the rear of the Genesis instead of the new Genesis logo they pictured initially.

Now the Genesis looks like a fused Elantra Sonata style vehicle from the rear

I just don't get why return to this "H" logo for the rear, it really holds the entire exterior the look of the back a bit. Hyundai really needs to get the Genesis brand to stand on its own without the Hyundai "H" being attached to it like other luxury cars.

and the 2015 Sonata look challenges the 2015 Genesis pretty hard.

Going down to only having one emblem to replace is making progress. I guess they need some identification beyond the model and are probably proud to show its is a Hyundai to all.

Those figures are way out or at least I believe them to be. Explain this.

We all know Hyundai has said for 2015 they decreased the hp slightly and increased the torque slightly all in an effort to better drivability and to try to increase fuel economy a touch right?

So we agree they are basically using the same engine so to say in both V8 and V6 versions of the 2015 vs prior years.

The V6 version in 2015 is pretty much unchanged with a 1 mpg improvement in highway consumption in comparison to a 2012.

The V8 has increased consumption 2 mi/gallon city and 2 mpg highway? Something is not adding up at all.

2012 V6 RWD = 18/28.....2012 V8 = 17/25

2015 V6 RWD = 18/29.....2015 V8 = 15/23

According to the 2015 figures which seem questionable, adding AWD to the V6 pretty much brings it up to the same consumption levels as the V8 without AWD.

They should offer the rear logo as optional in customizing the 2015 Genesis. Select between the "H" logo, or the new "Genesis" logo.

Those numbers are published by the US Government EPA website, and also the same numbers are reported by Hyundai USA on their website (Hyundai Canada does not have mileage info yet for the 2015 from what I can tell). The 2015 Genesis is apparently several hundred pounds heavier than the 2009-2014 version from what I have heard, although official weight on USA website say "TBD". One can see why Hyundai was reluctant to introduce the V8 5.0 AWD in the USA.

The 3.8 V6 AWD is still at least 1 MPG better than the 5.0 V8 RWD (2 MPG better for highway driving). Numbers are probably not exact due to rounding to nearest whole number.
