Yes, but polarized lenses were invented by Polaroid Corporation (or at least invented by the person who later formed Polaroid Corporation). The similarity in names is not coincidental.
"Edwin Land, invented Polaroid, the world's first polarizing material for commercial use, in 1929. He founded the Polaroid Corporation in 1937 in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The company initially produced Polaroid Day Glasses, the first sunglasses with a polarizing filter."
I'll take Reflection and Refraction for $500, Alex. That's a really good trivia factoid. I knew he founded Polaroid and invented the Land camera, among other things, but I didn't know he invented Polaroid filter material before founding Polaroid Corp.
