If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I searched and didn't find an answer, sorry if this has been covered already.

I am looking to purchase a used 2009 V8 sedan and noticed it has the wings logo on the back. Did it originally come that way? Or did the previous owner re-badge it? what is the reason/significance of this logo? I am also considering a V6 and it has the "H" logo.

Also, any thoughts on which to get, 2009 V8-not certified, or 2009 V6-certified. Neither have navigation. How valuable is being certified? Any other comments?

both have about 25000 miles and the price difference is only $1500 more for the V8.

Thanks!!
Amber

Winged badges are not from the factory. They are after market dress-up items installed by the dealers, in some instances, or the owner.

Some folks like them some don't.

And to add to the previous comment... the winged badges are standard in Korea, where they do not use the "Lazy H" badges on the Genesis.

So it's personal choice. I don't like the Hyundai lazy H logo at all and find the wings a lot more attractive. Not everybody agrees, but in my area (Maryland/DC) most of the Gennys I see have been rebadged.

Must not have "searched" very hard. A search for the word "wing", for example, turns up about ten helpful threads on the first results page.

Many topics about rebadging, but not explaining if it was ever original equipment, or if it implies something diff about the car. Or that it is the logo used in Korea. At least that's what my search found.

The car was intended to wear the winged badge, except in the U.S. where trademark infringement laws could cause extreme difficulties. Many folks think the winged badge is a near clone of Bentleys (I don't), but a jury can likely be convienced of nearly any alpha attorneys reality, thus the primary desire for jury trials.

OMG! So now we have to look over our shoulders in case the emblem police are on patrol?? To play it safe, maybe I'll replace my wings with a Crosley emblem.

At any rate, the wing badge is easy enough to get, don't base your decision on that. Otherwise, the V8 or V6, I don't think there's a huge difference, so get the one you want. certified or not, does it come with an extended warranty? Otherwise, meh.

Glimmergirl,

Before you can purchase a Genesis with the wings... or put the wings onto your newly purchased Genesis, you must first pass the "Winged Genesis" written exam. Did the salesperson explain this to you? It's pretty hard and not for everyone. If you're into "fuel injected" engines and "foot-pounds of torque", you should probably do okay--

Really? In MD the test is multiple choice. I passed easily after studying the owner's manual for a few days and reading this forum for 6 months.

LOL... seems you two forgot to take your daily dosage...

As for the copyright thing... seriously? How many carmakers have winged logos?

Okay, I'm done.

That's funny... but sarcasm aside, the "Winged Geneses" exam was as hard as my FAA "Instrument" exam I took some while back. Luckily, knowing the Geneses answers helped me get the Instrument questions correct.

here is my humble opinion. 25k on the odometer is not very significant these days. The car most likely will go for a few 100k more. I like my V8 because of the power and the smoothness of the delivery. I re badged my car because I like the wing badge logo - real attractive. you can change either the wing or the H to whatever logo that you like. with the modds that I made to my care I can easily feather 26mpg out of my V8

cheers!
