  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I found that both the tire tool and a screwdriver was needed to remove the inserts. Since they are plastic, I was concerned that I would break them either when removing or installing since they bent quite a bit before releasing.
Just wondered if the process gets easier with time? I had to use a rubber hammer to seat them and with no key to align them getting them properly seated and correctly aligned was trying since they tended to move.
I don't think that I would trust a tire shop to remove or install them since they would either scratch or break them.

When wheel is removed they can be popped out from behind.

Funny thing about those wheel inserts. Don’t know about other years but on my 2011 if they are not put back correctly they are hell to take off later. What I mean by correctly is the cutout slot goes directly towards the valve. Reason being that there is an indentation on the rim on that side to facilitate proper removal. More room for the removal tool to fit. So far no service place has got it right. Even the dealer gets it wrong. I then have a tough time putting it back on right.

Homeofstone, apparently I was not specific about my problem since I was installing four new winged wheel covers I had just received from Korea. I can't take the wheel off without first removing the wheel cover. I guess I will live and learn the hard way and try to be more definitive about my problem.
Ernie3647, as you have pointed out, the notch in wheel cover should align with the large notch on the wheel which ,I believe, is the proper way to install the cover. No need to remove the cover as yet and hope not to damage it when doing so in the future.
Thanks for the comments.

Since you have a 3.8 and did not mention wheel size I thought you had the std. 17" wheel which has just the center cap with exposed lug nuts. Your 3.8 must have 18" with center covers with waffle edge like my 4.6. Guess I'm lucky, I have not had anyone put the covers on incorrectly.

Can one of you guys help me out with this problem. My dealer ordered the wheel insert wing badges and they came in today. We pulled off the wheel cover only to find that the center insert is a fake, it only appears to be a removable center plug when in fact the back side of the wheel cover is solid molded plastic. This is a 2012 3.8 Tech with 18" wheels. Needless to say the ordered pop-in inserts wouldn't work. Is there a "stick-on" set available for this type wheel cover or do the covers require some kind of modification? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks homeofstone. That explains it and I'll pass this on to my salesman. Someone at the dealership had said there were "stick on" covers for just the center portion but I couldn't find them. Thanks for your help.

I would be worried about a dealer and the parts/service department that is this uninformed about the Genesis Sedan.

Which tire tool are you referring to?
I finally purchased the winged wheel caps and will like to know how you installed yours.
