If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Just wanted to get a tally of R Spec owners - opinion on tires for the upcoming winter months

The all season touring Conti's kind of blow :(

I'm leaning in two directions at the moment

1. Conti Extreme DWS ( fantastic all season tire - the best hands down )

2. Pirelli 240 Sottozero - winter sport ( also a great tire )

Curious what the R Spec crowd here in the east are looking to get ?

I'd like to get a little debate going :)

I don't think too much of any "all season" tire in serious snow, but they are fine in most light snow conditions.
If you are traveling in CA snow country you will need tires with M&S designation to drive past a mandatory chain up area.
Michelin used to offer its "Ice" tire in 245-45/19, but it is currently out of production despite being shown as available at some sites like TireRack and Costco. I know this from direct experience.
Bridgestone "Blizzard" tires have been nicely reviewed by TireRack;
and they are my current winter choice.
The current designs in winter M&S tires have a lot of siping, which is of great help in ice and even rain. For this reason alone I chose winter tires for usage in OR where we do not have so much snow, but do have occasional black ice.
The choices of winter tires in 19"+ diameter is very limited; and I have not seen reports of any particular brand as being clearly superior. I think they are all pretty good.

Rey,

I'm opting to get either the Blizzaks or the Pirelli Sottozero's

I had the Pirelli's on the M5 and they were great

the Conti Extreme DWS are awesome for an all season

much better than the competition

I've owned both the Pirelli SottoZero - AND the Conti Extreme DWS

they both perform exceptionally well on snow and ice

With the nod going to the winter tire of course

an all season tire - is not a winter tire :)

and they shouldn't be compared with one another

it's like comparing apples with oranges - totally different animals really

but if you are interested - check out the tirerack videos for the

conti extreme DWS - it's quite impressive for an all season

I've used them on ice and snow - and they are amazing ;)

I'm looking to get a set of wheels and winter tires for my horse.

Right now we have two different sizes of tires on the car. The rears are wider than the front, but all four are the same diameter.

The front tires are 245/45vr19. I find them to wide for winter tires.

The spare tire is a 18"TBD. What ever that means.

I would like to install four 18" wheels with a narrower tire size.

I think that the bolt pattern should be 5-114.

I think the off set should be 35 or 45 mm.

I think the tire pressure sensors should be 315 MHz.

If all tis is right, I could:

Install four 18" x 8" wheels with a 225/55r18 winter tires with TPS's.

I would like to know who could confirm that this set up will fit over the brake disks and calipers, their wont be any rubbing anywhere, and that the TPS's will be functional.

Anny help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks a million
