Winter tires/rims

I'm thinking of putting the Blizzaks on my stock wheels and buying some bronze wheels for summer. Thoughts? I think I saw some bronze wheels on a white GV70 on the forum here but I haven't seen them on a burgundy one yet...the preview feature on their website doesn't have a burgundy option. :(

Got my 19" Conti Viking Contact7's from BlackCircles about a week or so ago. Waiting for the weather to get cold here. We had 24 degrees on Friday last week!! And this weekend looks like mid to high teens again. Plan is to swap out the stock Michelins on my stock 19" wheels sometime next week when the pre-winter temps are going to settle in.

@dhuhtala I had a bronze wheel on my 2000 Red eagle Talon....wife hated them LOL. They do work on some colours, but it is a very personal thing. I would recommend having a local wheel shop test fit on your vehicle on a hoise, even without a tire mounted, before you make the leap. For mine, I am looking at a brushed titanium, or some sort of gunmetal, and the furthest I would go with black, is gloss black with tinted machine face. Solid black is an absolute NO for me. Very picky so finding the right wheel has been a struggle, especially with limited availability and sizing.

Yeah, that's probably a good idea...I'm not really sure about going with bronze either - and I also don't like black...I prefer a lighter colour. I used to have gold wheels on a green/gold 1976 Firebird and that looked fantastic, but you certainly take a risk of getting tacky if it isn't exactly right!

I had the bronze wheels on a silver car. This is the post:

I remember that. I must admit, that combo looks pretty sharp. The silver is muted so the bronze does not fight with your body colour. Not sure if I would get tired of the colour eventually though.

@dhuhtala that's what would concern me about yours. Your body colour is pretty intense, and a bronze wheel may be "too much". But again, this is all about individual personal preferences, so go with what your gut tells you when you see it (if you can get a shop to do a dry fit on your GV). Kinda what I am facing. I have Mauna red which is already loud as it is (wish I got white!!!). So need a muted colour, thus why leaning towards brushed titanium, or black with smoke tinted machine face, just to add definition and compliment the vehicle. My preferred size is 21, but limited availability and tires are limited and prices high.

Yeah, I went with Blizzaks just because they were available. I haven't found any Nokians in stock every year I go looking...I need to start earlier, I think. ;)
I got mine from Amazon!

I think this one might be better - much more muted with just a touch of bronze.

Nice. Always hard to tell until you see on a vehicle, which why I do a google image search for the wheel to see it on an actual vehicle. I think this is it? if so, sharp looking.

Nice! Thanks for finding this pic! It definitely helps to understand how they look on a vehicle!

I'm planning on putting winters on the stock wheels once I get the car. Likely going with Contis though. And then getting black ones for the summer. I actually like black wheels on burgundy GV70. I was thinking of doing a full blackout (chrome delete, badges, tail lights), but wife doesn't like that look. So I think black wheels is gonna be a compromise.

The reason i don't like black wheels is that I see them all over the place...on beamers, on chevs etc, and each time I see them on the streets, they just look like black holes where the tires and wheels should be. It's a lost opportunity to add some definition to the vehicle. Also, being a Canuck, and an older one at that, I still have this thing of associating black wheels to the ole black steelies we always used to use in winter LOL! But that's just me. And to be quite honest...I agree with you. I did see a pic of a burgundy GV with black wheels, and it was a nice look...stealthy. Really, this is all about personal preferences...and we all differ in that regard so I always take opinions with large grain of salt since they are just that....opinions.

Hi. So, my Blizzak LM-005s mounted on MSW50 rims are here and on the car. Photos attached. Personally, I think the gunmetal gray MSWs go pretty well with the dark chrome window trim on the GV70. In terms of snow and ice performance -- we shall see. The Blizzaks are, at least, reasonably smooth and quiet on dry pavement.

BTW, not impressed with our look of our lug bolts, so picked these up on amazon in gloss black, but they are not too glossy. Size is 21 mm.

Complement the stock wheels, and have been on highways (up to 125 kms/hr) and they are staying on light champs.

Thought I would share if anyone is interested. Will snap an pic and post.

Edit - was happy they included an extra cap in my order. Not sure if that was a boo-boo or intentional tho.

After doing "ok" last winter on the A/S stock tires, just ordered a winter wheel/tire setup (+TPMS) from TireRack. Should have it delivered and installed within next two weeks. Will post pics.

Got my new Continental VikingContact 7s on my stock 19" wheels Monday morning, just in time for our first snow of the winter today. Must say felt very confident in the GV with the Conti's. They handled snow, slush and packed ice like champs. Lots of ice at 4 way stops and they gripped well. Awesome tire. What a difference driving this vs my F150 with winters. Never felt sure footed in my truck because of its mass and height, although was great for fishtailing down the road :-).

Btw, anyone in Ottawa looking for a set of the stock Michelin's 235/55/19 that have less than 200 kms on them, let me know.

First snow? Man, it has been hardcore winter here for 2 weeks already! -30 with windchill and a foot of snow! Alberta...Sheesh. Are those the all weather or snow tires?

Wow, but not surprised for AB. You have some tough winters. Yeah it's been bizarre here....13 degrees last Friday. Next week going back up to highs of 3. Nope, the Conti's are full blown winter. All weather won't cut it for our winters, at least not in my book.

Yeah agreed. I'm getting Blizzaks installed on Tuesday...been waiting for Costco to deliver them for 3 weeks. You aren't keeping your stock tires for Summer? I was going to keep them and buy some new rims for them. I considered going to 20" but my first priority is ride comfort so staying with 19.

I picked up my car just 4 days ago and have been hearing everyone say how bad the Michelin primacy’s are for snow&ice.

What are they good for then? Not even a week since I took procession and i’m already looking for set of winter tires that fits.

Should I hold onto the primacy for next spring &summer, or should I sell them?

Nope. I am contemplating a 22" wheel with slightly oversized tire (265/40/22) that would give me a slightly taller side wall than the stock 21" for a bit more cushion, or a 21" wheel with stock tire size. In fact, if I could find a set of the stock 21" used or a take off from a fairly new vehicle, I would consider that as well. 22" options are so much greater for both wheels and tires. Still undecided however.
