  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Winter wheel & tire packages?

I like them better when I see the five U spokes rather than when I see the five Y spokes.

Yeah, I agree. I think it's easier to see the U shapes when it's the 2-tone wheels vs, the full silver ones.

I would be interested in getting the OEM 10 spoke rims that are used on the Sport model in the other markets and using the 5 spoke rims for the winter. Providing the cost was not ridiculous.
I'm looking to buying the G70 3.3T Sport but before doing that I'm having a difficult time deciding on the car colour as I don't like the dark 5 spoke rims. I think the 10 spoke rims look so much better and will look good on all colours. To me, the dark 5 spoke rims look best on Red and also good on White. I don't think I want a red car and I have traditionally not liked white.

I also inquired about swapping the the 5 spoke rims for the 10 spoke from the 2.0T but that is not possible. But I was told an approximate price for the 10 spoke rims and it was very high (can't remember the price though).

The Kia Stinger Limited GT has the same staggered tire setup as the G70 3.3T Sport. The Kia Stinger and Genesis G80 has a bolt pattern of 5 x 114.3 (67.1mm Center Bore) It could very well be possible that both Kia and Genesis use 5 x 114.3 as a company standard. From here, it wouldn't be too far to maybe assume that the G70 would also use these wheel specs.

The Kia Stinger fronts are 225/40ZR 19 on 19 x 8 ET34. The rears are 255/35ZR 19 x 8.5 ET 46.5.

(Please be aware that my information may NOT be correct).

I think getting the same staggered wheel setup with the same offsets from the after-market will not be easy. To get the same center bore will even be more difficult. At least you can use rings.

I think I will run the stock 5 spokes for now, put winter rubber on them and then buy new rims in the spring for the summer tires.

I would like to do that except that I don't want staggered winters. Tried it once on my 5 series and I can tell you a 275/30-19 winter tire in the rear was crap. Much better when I went with 245's all around on 18's.

I personally think I am going to buy 18" winter wheels and tires and then next spring maybe sell my 5 spokes and try to buy something different in a 19. I imagine lots of guys with lower end G70's will be interested in the sport wheels.

By going with the 18” setup all around for winter, the variety is greater and the prices much lower for the winter tires available as I have already planned ahead on how much it will cost to run separate summer and winter wheel setups.
The higher sidewall on the 18s might also be safer if there are nasty winter potholes that you miss avoiding.
IDK. Things to consider.

Good points and food for thought. Which tires would be good to buy?

That is the other reason I like smaller wheel size.

As for tires, I am definitely going with Nokian Hakkapelitta 9's

I have had the studded 7's and 8's on numerous vehicles and they are excellent tires. Their non studded ones are great as well and I have had good luck with Michelin X-Ice's as well. But I prefer the studded for our long cold winters up here :)

gotta make sure the 18's would clear the Brembos, with the correct offset.

i would gladly buy the 10-spoke rims off someone for a summer setup, use the dark 5-spoke rims for winter. even though i agree an 18" winter is preferred.

even better, swap the 5-spoke rims for 10-spokes with another owner, and then buy an aftermarket winter rim setup.

Edmguy...I'm in Sask, winter is definitely my least favorite season.

I haven't seen a good pic of them yet, but they looked like a flat 5 spoke in silver if I remember right.

DJ Posted a pic of them back on page 1, post#2

Thanks. Didn't remember seeing that post.
edit to add...those rims remind me of the ones on the 1982 Z28.

My current car has 235/35/19 Continental 5P Summer for the summer and I run 235/40/18 with Pirelli Winter Sottozero 3 for the winter.

I will try to get the Sottozero 3 again for the G70. I really like them. They are top rated, and among the group for Performance Winter, rank right up there next to the Michelin Pilot Alpin PA4 for handling. The Sottozero 3 feel firm and sporty like a ultra high performance all season tire. They don’t have any squirm turning. The only performance penalty compared to an ultra high performance summer is all out grip, a little less agile, slightly slower and less quick on the steering. The Sottozero 3 however are better in the snow and ice than any regular all season tire in my experience.

It mostly rains here in the winter and we seldom get snow. The Sottozero 3 are also very good in the rain. If it’s deep snow, I have no idea how these will perform. Even in not so deep snow, the tires will be buried in the snow along with the rim because it’s so low profile.

When on my 18’s for the winter, the big bumps on the road have way less of a harsh impact. At the same time, they feel really firm which is not surprising because the sidewalk height still looks almost too low profile.

The price difference between 225 18 and 255 19 is huge for the Sottezero 3. At 255 on the rear, that may be too much width for good winter traction on bad surfaces. Add in that you might be spinning the rears more often in the winter and you can’t rotate the wheels all staggered 19” setup, it might be more sensible and much cheaper to go with an all around 18” setup.

Just my two cents.

Well it looks like the g80, g90 and the previous hyundai genesis coupe have the same center boar and thread size. It may very well follow suit that the g70 does as well. Offsets vary a little but look ok. More rims to choose from for winter tires perhaps?
