  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Winter wheel & tire packages?

Got my winter wheels put on yesterday, and none too soon; drove home from work last night in white-out blizzard conditions...

M203 VOSSO Wheels by NICHE 18" x 8", 5x114.3, 72.6mm Hub, +30mm Offset wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3 Plus in 225/45/ZR18 Ys:

Not the best pic, but I was already late for work. (8 hours later, the temp had dropped 25 degrees and this was all covered by 3" of fresh snow.)

I have the same rubber on my winter Enkei 18s. I have to say, I really like the look of those Vosso's!

Everyone has spent so much money on this it makes me laugh that I’m trying to find the cheapest wheels and tires.

I’m getting really nervous because I’m driving around and it’s -12C today. I’m wondering how badly my poor summer tires are getting destroyed right now

I'm sure your tires are fine....maybe. Hah. But I'd be more worried about the lack of traction! Summer tires like to instantly lose grip when you least expect it when in the super cold. There's no warning, you can't feel them beginning to let go, it's just sudden. That said, just drive gently and be careful, especially when turning at moderate speeds.

Yeah, your tires will be fine. The trick will be staying on the road and making forward progress! I'll never forget being caught off guard by a sudden early snow one October evening years ago. I still had summer only tires on. There was only about half an inch of fresh, fluffy snow, but my BMW would barely move forward on a flat road. I couldn't believe how bad it was.

^This. Seriously, as bad as summer tires are in the extreme cold, it pales in comparison to how utterly useless they are in the snow! I had a very similar experience in my wife's car a few years ago. Haha.

Luckily I live 1.5 km from my work and it’s a small street so I’m driving super slow. The wheels come in tomorrow so hopefully if I get home at a decent hour I’ll do it tomorrow!

I can’t wait to post the pictures;). Carrying them to my place not be fun though....

Thankfully there was only some snow on Monday but it’s gone now. I just have to hold out for 1-2 days!

I received mine from Tire Rack yesterday. Pirelli Sottozero 3 (had them on my BMW, loved them) and Enkei Raijin Hyper Silver (8.5" and 35mm offset). I am rather pleased with the way it looks but 225 is definitely the smallest these wheels can take, also feel than 225 is a bit light in the rear for all the torque on my RWD.
I believe I am one of the few to use winter tires in the Nashville area. Tire Rack called me right after I passed my order to ask me if i was aware I ordered winter tires and if I really wanted to go on with the order. I told them I was not going to take a chance to daily drive a RWD with summer tires during the winter. winters are rather mild here in Nashville but the thing is that they are a thing, with temperatures typically under 40 degrees during my commute for several months and occasional (light) snow, enough for me not to take a chance. Also for those who ask: the TPMS sensors worked, the pressure did show up after driving about a mile. I had to order them for a Kia Stinger GT though since Tire Rack still does not show the TPMS option for the G70. I'll post better photos when I clean the car

I just saw the sottozero 3 on tire rack for the same price as the blizzaks 80 from my local shop. I’d love to get the sottos but I believe it said arrives Tuesday and I’m too scared to stay on these summers for that long. WHAT SHOULD I DO!

It depends on where you live. If you get a lot of snow, the blizzaks are a better choice. That said, I live in the snow belt of Michigan and I've used multiple brands of winter tires on various cars over the years. I wound up buying the Blizzak LM-001's, which are a performance oriented winter tire. I probably would be better off with the 80s (which I've had on other cars) because ultimately, they're amongst the best tire you can get for icy conditions. I don't really care so much about driving on actual snow - its when it gets packed down and turns to ice that matters. However, when the storm is over, a few days later, I'm driving on dry roads again. Plus, I work from home and can avoid going out when it gets really bad, or take my wife's SUV, which has more traditional snow tires.

Carrying them to my place not be fun though....

One in the trunk, two stacked in the rear seat passenger side and one vertically in the rear seat driver's side. Easy peasy.

Thank you for the advice. I just moved here to Nebraska but from my climate research of the area, it doesn’t snow all that much. I’d love to get the LM-001 but I also don’t want to spend that much money for those bad boys.

i refuse to put them on my rear seats. Baby Jenny deserves only the best;). You don’t think I can fit 2 in the trunk? If not that’s 4 trips then....

Just loaded tires (no rims) in my G70, folded the seats down and all four tires pretty much can lay flat (one is leaning on another). You could likely do the same if they were mounted as well. I'll find out tomorrow. lol

I should be changing them tomorrow so I’ll find out for my self haha. The place isn’t that far anyways so even 4 trips isn’t bad

I took four wheels, in boxes, to my shop with two in the trunk and two in the back seat. I covered the rear seat with an old blanket.

Mine are shipped directly there and I’m buying the tires from the same shop; hence my blizzaks vs sottozeros. It’s ok I’m going to try to fit 2 in the trunk and make 2 trips. 8; if not, 4 trips it is:)

Any reputable tire shop will individually bag each wheel & tire so I don't see the issue. Not like the tire is going to be touching the seat.

I already have my own tire totes and covers but I'm just picky like that.

Off topic, I love your picture. One of my favorite feature of the car is the bronze piece in the headlight.
