Sorry to hear, Crupp.. Good luck.. When do you expect to get the car back?
So my day did not go as planned today. As some of you may know we have been getting ALOT of rain here in Atlanta, Ga. So I am heading back to the office in a very hard rain. I notice a puddle it doesn't appear to be deep so I proceed. Well, I didn't realize the water of the drain was clogged and very deep. The water splashed up on my car and the car stalled. Not a big deal I thought something got wet. I get out of the car and there is gas and oil streaming down the road. This can't be good. After Haz Mat and the fire department leave and I am at the dealership with the car I find out there is a much bigger problem! The intake sucked in the water and water went into the engine. Piston tries to push water = not good. Piston breaks goes through the bottom of the block, through the oil pan. ENGINE BLOWN, car needs a new engine. REALLY, I need a drink!!
We think it came in through the Air intake, based on the dripping wet air filter. The water was pretty deep (come to find out) but the puddle was pretty small, less than half a car length. I think the biggest problem was the car dipped to the passenger side (this is the side of the blocked storm drain) and that is where the air intake is. If the same think happened on the drivers side I don't think this would have happened.
The insurance adjuster is going out today. 2 days to get the engines, 4-5 days to put it in.

I don't completly understand how the water got into the air intake. The air filter is very high up in the engine compartment, but also, the air intake is even higher, located above the radiator and a/c condenser. Granted, the plastic pipe may not be watertight from the opening of the air intake and the air filter, but still, everything is high. The way I see it, either you were going a good speed when you got into the water, and water splashed up(forward) into the air intake, or the car ended up much deepte in the water and it covered the air intake and air filter. Once that water gets past the air filter, goodbuy engine.
Once again, never drive through water that is deeper than the bottom of the wheel and then, only if you KNOW there is no potholes under the water.[/QUOTE/]
True, the air intake is up high but water comming in through the front grill and come to find out there is a black plastic piece that sits in the engine bay over the two front wheel wells and that was popped off which means the water came in directly beside the air intake housing.
Final outcome: New engine (whole engine not just the bottom piece), New Brakes and rotors (pre-caution against potential rust?), change transmission fluid. Total cost 16k!!! Said they are shooting for next Friday (the 2nd) to have it done
