  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Would you buy it again?

91,000+ miles on my 2011 4.6 with tech pkg and yes. Reliability is great, the Genesis still drives like new, smooth and quiet.

In a word, yes.

But to expound on it, I have been so happy with my car, the power, the overall fit and finish, etc, not to mention that damn near everyone who has ridden in it (especially in the back seat) gushes about it. I love the trunk space, the steering feel, the amenities, the look of it.

I now have just shy of 30k miles on my '11 4.6. Have had ZERO mechanical issues at all and but one very minor fuse relay item that the dealership handled in 10 minutes on a busy day without an appointment.

But to many of the minor squawk items that we've all bandied about here, I'll enumerate my short hit list of what I'd like to see in either the next Genesis or what have you that I'd like to get. I know the bar has been raised, so this sounds probably a bit petulant, but oh well:

* Little firmer ride. I know the 5.0 has tackled this I believe. But I don't want an R-Spec, I want a regular Genesis premium midsize car with a little more German feel suspension wise.
* Pax seat cooling. Ridiculous that it isn't. Still one of my biggest gripes. And my wife's. :)
* The display screen needs to be a little bigger, the orientation angled just a few degrees forward for better light reflectivity. The sat radio layout and display could be refined.
* iPod integration is non-existent. My wife has a new CRV that has actually leapfrogged my Genesis in terms of electronic and audio integration.
* Better leather on seats. I'm getting some undue wear and am not terribly happy about that.

Shoot, that's about it off top of my head.

A co-worker of mine just bought a new Audi A6 and riding in that is quite awesome too; it makes me realize that no brand can rest on its laurels even for a minute. Hyundai has done a great job of playing copycat and has slowly carved out quite a nice reputation for itself. Now it's time to take it to another level. I think they can do it and still keep the price manageable without getting into the rare air of 5-Series, Lexus 350, Infiniti M45, Audi A6 price points.

Too soon for my opinion to matter in a would you buy it again thread as I've only been an owner for 3 weeks.

I started my shopping desperately interested in Mercedes or BMW or Audi. Found in all three cases I would have to buy 1-2 year old car with minimal warranty to come near the Genesis 5.0 R price new. I decided it was foolish to buy a used car for nameplate cache and spend the same or even more than the price I got for a new Genesis with a ten year bumper to bumper warranty. Couldn't be happier with my decision. Now I pass A6's and 540's and e-350's thinking poor guys, if they only knew.

As they say: everything is relative. And that relates to this subject as well. Many here are former MB, Lexus and BMW owners and compare their Genesis with these vehicles. When one compares the price of these three with that of a Genesis, he/she gets a lot for the money in every respect. For the retail price of a Genesis (and not many pay even that), one gets a pretty decent car. Of course, in these threads there are typically two types of responses: those who have had dreadful experiences or those who are just thrilled with their purchases. It's rare to find a review without bias, however, when looking at the frequency of repair statistics for the Genesis, they look pretty good relative to the many imported luxury cars. Sure the Genesis does not have all the goodies these offer, but often these options are the very things that are most problematic. For example, one site rates the 2009 Genesis very high with the exception of cars with the Tech packages that seem to have most of the problems with these electronics. Presumably, the base car and premium packages are pretty reliable.

As for my Genesis, it's run perfectly for 30K miles and thus far had only two minor problems (a bad seat belt latch and that little flap at the trunk latch). Relative to past Volvos I owned, the Genesis is virtually perfect. Sure the Dunlop tires were awful, but tires, while expensive, are wear items like wiper blades. One can easily replace them (unlike the rusting disc brake system on my V70 Volvo). Moreover, changing tires improved the ride. Assuming that the car last 10 years like this, I'll consider it an excellent car by any standards.

Most certainly. My sister has a 650 BMW and I would not trade. I hope Hyundai keeps the pricing in check. Remember, when Lexus was first introduced they undercut Mercedes by quite a bit. As they became more popular the prices increased and now they are not a deal anymore.
