  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

So I've had my 2012 Black Genesis w/ Premium for almost a month and I've never seen a car get as much attention on the road and gas stations then the Genesis.

I was pumping gas the other day and a guy came to me admiring the car and taking a video of the whole outside of the car. On the highway I get so many looks when passing by. It's crazy how much attention it gets similar to Lamborghini and etc. BMW doesn't get this much attention that's for sure.
Same with driving through out the streets.

I love it though, makes me feel "VIP" especially since I'm only 21 driving a car like this lol.

PS: I have the badges installed in the front and back as well which gives it even more of a luxury look in my opinion.

Get used to it. It doesn't go away. I've had two Genesis (2009 and 2012) since December 31, 2008 and have consistently been gawked at, followed, approached in parking lots and questioned:"Is that a Bentley?"

My friends refer to my car as the Korean Bentley. Not bad for ~$35K.

I agree with Joe; it doesn't go away. I got my Genny in 2008, and still notice people checking it out. It is a fun feeling.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Same here. I was in a left turn lane and two guys came rolling up to my right in the regular lane and they actually stopped and started pointing at the car and then the headlights. Then drove off with a thumbs up sign. Not bad response for a Korean car... LOL

I don't own a Genesis myself but I do find myself staring out them quite often. :)

They're right get used to it. I’ve had mine three years now and I've seen near accidents from rubberneckers and I also tend to have a lot of people driving in my blind spot a little longer than usual. I even had looks from a guy in a Ferrari (of all things). Funny, I find guys in newer pick-up trucks tend to give the most stares and ask the most questions.

i've never seen anyone pay attention to mine here in SoCal.
is it because i have the H badge, or because Californians already know it pretty well, i don't know.

It's mostly the H badge. Most people stare at the car because they are trying to figure out what it is (if it has wings), especially since the wings lead some to think it may be a Bentley.

i think that makes sense, because i don't think the genesis is an unusually stylish or sexy thing.
thanks Mark for bringing us down to reality :)

Speak for yourself. My girl is the sweetest looking car around!

Cheers,
Newman
I definitely think the Genesis is good looking, but mine is a car, not a girl.

Thanks Mark - I did not realize that I was anthropomorphizing the car - appreciate you clearing that up.

I did not mean to single you out as being unusual. In this forum at least, you are probably in the majority and I am in the minority. I like nice things, and I do appreciate quality, engineering, etc, but for me my Genesis is just a mode of transportation to get from one place to another. I had my previous car for 11 years before purchasing my Genesis.

As somebody said here a while ago - don't anthropomorphize Genny: she hates that .:D

Sometimes there is a downside to all the attention, a few months ago while driving on the highway to work, a guy in a van comes up on my right and for a good 2 to 3 miles he just stares at the front of my car. I mean turns his body around to look and everything. When i slowed down, he slowed down, when i sped up, he sped up. There was no other traffic around for me to use to get him off me (i leave the house very early in the morning). I was concerned he would try to run me off the road. Then out of no where he darts to the right lane and exits on the off ramp, very scary!!!! Now i try not to drive in the left lane and instead I stay in the center lane. There are other times guys will be in my blind spot behind me looking at my rear emblem and if i don't physically look before i change lanes i would hit them, the attention is good but not all of it welcomed

There is rarely a trip that I make over 15 minutes long without someone going out of their way to look and check it out.
It was a weird feeling at first, especially for someone driving mainstream FWD sedans for the longest time.
My personal favorites are E and S class drivers :)

I believe I shared this story in another thread a year or two ago, but I think I experienced one of the more scary moments of "Genesis envy". The short story is that I passed a guy in a truck, only to be repassed a few minutes later. I thought he was a "left lane vigilante" that objected to my speed, and passed him one more time. Sure enough, he passes me a second time and then sticks his arm out his window, pointing something at my car. My wife screams "gun!" or something to that effect and hits the floor. After a moment, it occurs to me that he's taking a picture of my car with his cell phone. I was able to confirm this when we saw him at a rest area some miles down the road, at which point he apologized for what he later realized was some peculiar behavior in this era of "road rage". Fortunately, no one has been quite that interested in my car since then.

I come out of a store to find a guy looking over my 2012 4.6 with badges. He asks, "Is this an Aston Martin?". I replied, "No, it's a Hyundai." "What's it cost?" "About $45,000 but you can get it for less." He looks at me with shock in his eyes and says very loudly, "YOU PAID $45,000 FOR A HYUNDAI? YOU COULD'VE GOTTEN A BMW FOR CRYIN' OUT LOUD".

I calmly pointed out that just a moment ago he thought it was an Aston Martin and that $45,000 would certainly get him a BMW but probably nowhere near as well appointed with a 10 year warranty.

He turned and walked away without another word. That's LA for you.

lol! ya many people just don't get it.
what the guy failed to realize, is that a comparable bmw ( the 5 series 550, loaded w/ options) would run approx 30k more, w/ less than half the warranty. a no brainer to me

but ya, i had a neighbor react in a similar fasion when i told her it was a hyundai that runs 39-44k.

i told her that she needs to understand that hyundai has come along ways w/ respect to making reliable good looking quality cars that now compete w/ the big boys (honda, toyota, gmc, etc). and whereas toyota, honda, gmc and other car makers changed their name for their luxory lines- ie toyota to lexus, honda to accura, gmc to cadillac, nissan to infinity etc- hyundai did the same by offing a luxory line, but decided to retain it's name.

either way, hyundais' luxury lines compete w/ most of all the other luxory cars out there and imo beat the competition w/ the incredible value pricing.

yes, if you say you paid 45k, there are a lot of people who will give you that response.
but if you pay about 36k like many of us on this forum, then it's not so bad because at that price, some people buy loaded minivans or pick up trucks. with the genesis, you get a very nice luxury car.
