  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Xpel Ultimate FULL Vehicle Wrap

I'll be picking up my Xpel'd RSpec sedan today.

Full front (bumper, headlights, mirrors, and full hood)
Opti coat the rest of the car.

Car has about 100 miles on it so figured better to get it done now before I get any rock chips.

Pics soon.

If you are in an accident and ruin part of your car, will insurance pay to replace this?

Answer to your question is below:
Post number 13

Thank you, as I stated, it may not be for everybody.... ;)

Not a dumb question; rather a very valid concern. I can say my insurance company does cover it in the event of an accident; I would say if you are considering it, check with your agent or company.

Okay guys,

Here is the light kit that just arrived this morning. :D

The box is of a very heavy duty variety and it arrived in perfect shape. Part # shown is for my 2011 4.6 and I am sure it is the same for all years and models but please check with Xpel.

Contents include a pair of headlight covers and a pair of fog lens covers, and a squeegee. I won't go into detail on the installation since there are videos of an install on the Xpel website. I will post pics of my lens after installation on my car.

It won't happen right away since the weather is not cooperating and my garage is a disaster and in need of some spring cleaning.
Stay tuned.....

Well today I installed the fog light film and it was very simple.

Since the lens has slight compound curves, it was necessary to spray the lens, film, and your hands with the alcohol and water solution to get the film to lay down properly. Also have a heat gun or hair dryer handy to soften the film. Use caution when using a heat gun and set it on low setting as to not burn your paint or lens. It doesn't take much heat to soften the film.

The video on Xpel's website shows a no water/alcohol application for a fog lens but if you go that route with our lens, you'll be asking for trouble.

Here is the pic of the completed right lens. You can just barely make out the edge of the film.

Headlights shortly...;)

Wow what a HUGE difference between xpel.com pricing and these guys.

Great find.

Typically, a manufacturer's website always shows MSRP on their product, so as not to undercut their distributors and retailers.

On a quick sidenote: the M56S goes in for paint correction and a full wrap on Wednesday. :)

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
So wait... SmoovC, you had the Genesis wrapped in Jan 13 for $3,800 and sold the car two months later? Now that's what I call discretionary income and one helluva gift-wrap!

BTW, I'm accepting donations to the "Mark's Genesis Maintenance Program" fund.... happy to provide you w/my PayPal account info ;)

Ha! I'd say about 89% of everyone on the forum was thinking the same thing, according to a survey I made up:D

LOL!! For the record, it was three months ago. ;) But yes, I suppose stated as such someone is going to get a helluva' bonus when they purchase that car. There was also some compensation on trade in to account for such.

As far as the paypal fund: I have $10 million dollars in an off shore bank account that I can't get released. If you would be so kind as to provide me with your full name, address, social security number, banking information, and a certified check for $10,000 USD, I can get that released to you. :D

Sounds like you took survey lessons from Obama! :D

Hello, I am entertaining the thought of getting the high profile areas of the Genny wrapped (front bumper, hood, rocker panels, and mirrors). However, based on feedback from installers, 3M Scotchgard is a better product and soon will guarantee 7 years against manufacturers’ defects (fading, yellowish tint, scratch proof) opposed to the current 5 years. This decision was made to deter potential customers from going with an inferior product. I have attached files that display the areas that I mentioned above and the price to install is under $1000. Feel free to chime in.
Thanks.

I am sure if you talk to installers of different PPF (and window tint for that matter), they will all have different opinions on what is "the best".

My decision to go with Xpel Ultimate was based on a few factors:

1) My installer with 13 years of experience has tried them all, and carries Xpel exclusively. Perhaps it is technique, but I see more orange peel and distortion in a 3M installation than I do in a Xpel Ultimate install.

2) My installer hand cuts all panels; he does not use a plotter. This accounts for variance in panels (they are all NOT the exact same), and allows him to wrap over and around edges, thus giving a more uniform appearance and better protection.

3) I am of the opinion that if 3M product was indeed superior, then why wouldn't they already offer a 10 year warranty; as opposed to a 5 year? I also feel that 3M going to a 7 year warranty "to deter potential customers from going with an inferior product" is a statement straight from the marketing department in an effort to regain lost market share, and a calculated risk on their part, rather than express faith in their product.

Again, these are just my thoughts that went into my decision as to what PPF to use. You may have different criteria that comes into play, and as such may find 3M to be a better fit for your particular application and situation.

SmoovC makes great points.

My suggestion is forgo the bikini cut on the hood and go with a full hood wrap. It will look so much better. That's what I did and it unnoticeable.

Thanks SmoovC for that feedback and you hit the ball right out the park with custom laser cuts opposed to hand cut. I was not aware that some installers would wrap the product under opposed to cutting off at the edges. That was my concerned and asked how much of the panel would be covered and the reply was "the computer calculates all cuts to the exact size". I will definitely follow-up if hand cuts are an option.

^^ Great advice right there! ^^

Glad to help; that's what makes car forums such a great place! :)

I have kicked the stone long enough, the Genny is currently getting the paint protection film by Xpel Ultimate and my windows are being tint at 35% with the exception to the windshield. I plan to get the Genny back on Saturday.

I installed the light covers and made a mistake on both pieces.

I called Xpel and told them what happened and that I would like to purchase a new set a little bit later on but for now I would like to order the mirror covers only.

Since I already had my CC on file with them, they went ahead and charged my card just for the mirror covers. Mail man came to my door with a box that looked exactly like the box they shipped the light covers in and I thought that was a bit unusual to ship the mirror covers in such a large box. Upon opening I noticed that Xpel sent me the mirror covers AND replacement light covers at no extra charge.

Even though I told Xpel that it was my fault for screwing up the light covers, they sent me a new set anyway.

Great customer service! :D
