If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have a most delightful 2013 Genesis 3.8 sedan w/Tech & premium packages. Of course, as many are, I'd much prefer something other than those terrible DRLs and would like LED turn signals without all the resistor addition to deal with the fast-flash issues.

Haven't found a solution to the DRLs save for putting a whiter (yawn) halogen. What would seem to make the most sense is a circuit that would sense the PWM modulated signal, and, if present, allow a secondary LED array (like Philips) be activated, and when it's a steady 12V, then the halogen is lit. This is more than your home tinkerer solution, but very easy from an engineering design point of view. Anything like this exist???

Regarding the turn signal issues... this is the closest thing I found to a plug and play solution to front and rear turn signal replacement for LED equivalents w/o any additional mods:
http://www.bimmian.com/WTS

They seem to cater to BMWs, but they have numbers that match the bulb specs for the Genesis (1157 & 7507) turn signals.

Has anyone tried these? And if so, were they "as advertised???"

Open to other suggestions as well!!!

Thanks! Jeff

ok... so I called Bimmian and they assured they'd work for any car so long as the right bulbs are ordered.

So I ordered front and rear signals in amber. Will report!

These clearly indicate the need for resistors and their instructions to install them are no different than any other LED. They also claim to use LED's from CREE Japan, but CREE is a US company.

As far as I can tell, that's only true for the 3157/3457 (dual mode of bulb causes need for resistor or coding in most vehicles, otherwise errors will occur), and not any of the others... as the site says, "Spektrum bulbs from WeissLicht feature characteristics that make them the first bulbs that are completely ERROR FREE! requiring no additional components such as error cancellers, wiring or custom sockets. All you need is the bulb; simply INSTALL & GO!"

Also, watch the video, start at 4:15....which confirms this.

Keep us posted!

I just purchased a set of LED front and rear turn signals from Diode Dynamics and perhaps return them if these are plug and play.

subscribing for results
hopefully this is the solution we are looking for.
anxiously waiting to see if they wash out in daylight

Quick questions folks:

How do I remove the front signal lights?????

I removed everything required to get to the DRLs, and replaced those with 5k halogens. No problem, well a bit of a PITA, but it went fine.

So below the halogen window (high beam/DRL) is a plug that appears in the right spot for the turn signal. However, when I turn it, it wants to go IN the housing, not come out.

So, can someone explain how to remove the front turn signal once access has been achieved? ...not sure it matters but it's a '13 Genesis w/Tech & Premium packages (i.e., AFLS)

THANKS!

The designs are similar enough to the '09 I have so I am sure you need to remove the front bumper to get the headlamp assembly out. It is not difficult. Just remove the fasteners on the bottom of the bumper, the upper grill trim (black plastic shroud) and it pulls off.

The process is somewhat involved but doable.

Here is a step by step process (which worked on both my 2013 Rspec and the Mrs 2009 4.6):

Having made good progress on replacing everything else with LEDs (Only vanity mirror left), I was fed up with seeing those horrible DRL reflections in the cars in front on me, so I changed my R-Spec to these LEDs and they look amazing (does not wash out in most lighting conditions):

Okay, here's the follow up on the lighting issue.

First, I replaced the hi-beam / DRL halogens with Philips Diamond Vision 55W 5k bulbs, and on DRL it looks WHITE! MUCH MUCH improved. Using the high beams at night, it shows a slight tint of blue, and though some disagree (on Amazon's reviews), I think just a tiny bit less bright than the stock halogens, which would make sense, both are 55W and the 5k bulbs filter out some of the visible spectrum.

Second, the amber Spektrum LEDs from Bimmiam.com. Now this gets a bit interesting. The bulbs are beautiful and put out wonderful light. Even on a very bright, sunny day, they were wonderfully visible and have a nice, broad visibility (meaning, it's not like a spotlight). I put the rear signal bulbs in and they are substantially brighter than the stock incandescent bulbs. Right on the Spektrum box it says "ERROR FREE! no additional cancellers [sic] or wiring required!"... Wellllll... turns out that's NOT true. They hyperflashed! So I call Bimmian, and they said I have a "sensitive" car, maybe 1 in 10 will hyperflash. Bull****. And they offered to send me a free "module" that "tricks the computer into not hyperflashing and denied it was a resistor. Guess what, they sent me resistors. So, I have them, and my guess is their business model is just that, give out resistors to these expensive LEDs and say, "wow, there almost never happens, but we'll work with you..." and so I put the resistors in the rear since there's plenty of room to place them without touching anything, and of course no hyperflashing, but I did exactly what I was trying to avoid, namely putting in resistors. I do like the bulbs, however, they look great on and off (no 'yolk' as some people don't like).

...in summary, knowing what I know now, I would not have purchased these as there are numerous, quality bulbs for less money and also (as these seem to, despite the claims to the contrary) require resistors.

I will be returning the front lights, I'm not confident there is sufficient space up there to add resistors (I just don't know), and I'm not really in the mood to remove body parts to change two little bulbs. Someday, maybe.

On a completely different note, I got to see a 2015 Genesis today, and I'm a bit disappointed with the exterior re: the pictures. It's fine, but the pics make it look unbelievable. I do like the interior, wow! Serious upgrade! I did a build your own for a '14 and '15 and for each loaded, it's about $5k more for the '15 RWD, noting there are some new features (blind spot, auto emergency stop, and a couple more). Still, nice interior!

Oh, and ANOTHER reason to not use Bimmian.com:

20% stocking fee, even if the item received was damaged (which, bizarrely enough, is how they coded my return).

So, you gave up highbeams?

did they really charge you to return products that were advertised as not causing hyper flashing for hyperflashing?

If they werent damaged when you returned them and they still charged that, they sound like the crappiest company in the world

Not trying to defend Bimmian but I think it may be because they design them for BMWs and not other vehicles. I believe they are in the wrong for charging you a 20% fee even after assuring you that it "should" work.

Sorry, misread that last post, so I'm editing. It'd be hard to imagine any bulb with standard coding/labeling (nothing on the box suggests that they're made for a specific brand) would be for a specific mfr. They did maintain their assurance when I told them the year/make/model.

Crappy indeed. AVOID.

What I will say, is they did spend a good deal of time trying to offer suggestions (e.g., change the flasher relay... (ya, we don't have 'em on the G)), and sent the resistors gratis.

Now you'll believe me. Unless you can change the BCM programming in a car or the flasher relay you will need the load of a resistor. It's never been any different in anything I've owned, including BMW.

If you receive a defective product from a company and they want to charge you a restock fee.. just contest it with your credit card company. the credit card company will pull the funds until its resolved. if its not resolved, they will just give you your money back. It takes a while but worth it when dealing with places that charge crazy restocking fees for their mistake.
