  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello,
I recently purchased a silver 2010 genesis with the v6 auto(not sure if you can even get stick shift) with just a hair over 38k miles. I got this car for my girl mainly as something a little more upscale then her last car. Is their anything that I should know about this car. I adamantly didn’t search very long nor hard on this matter but are their any known issues with this thing besides the radio?

Edit: The car is currently stock and will remain that way tell after the warrenty is up. Then we might mod it but as it is now the car as a lot more power then she is used to and at this rate she will have a speeding ticket before the week is over. lol

Welcome to the board. For what I know, the V6 is pretty reliable. You can forget about "modding" as this platform has zero aftermarket tuner support. This car was made to cater a more mature demographic. Enjoy the new car!

Then that helps me leave it stock! I just have a history of modding things for more power and really don't need another money pit. I've searched a bit more and haven't really found any issues on the car other then the steering colum sensors for the tilt steering.

Welcome! Good choice. Enjoy your car!

Yoda thinks youve done well. 100k tuneup insanely long life trans dif oils. Though i have reservations with brake fluid ( itll pick upmoisture ). Any problems would be a minority, though querks you will find.

Sad but true zero mod support, i had to show my aarp card to buy/drive this car.

Congrats and good luck

I'm glad we got this car. I've only had it for a day but so far I can feel myself liking it more and more. Its funny because my driveway is one extreme to another. My little modified rice burner (03.5 MazdaSpeed protégé) and this big ass car.

The funny part is we were car shopping and my girl wanted a newer Mazda 6. We currently have a 04 mazda6 and has been a great daily car with very little issues. We ended up shopping around and I made her drive 08 TL type-s, and this car. She really wasn't interested in any of the selections I picked for her. She liked the TL but something just didn't sound right with it on initial startup so that wasn't a go and lost interest in it right away.. She didn't even want to drive the genesis but I talked her into it just for the sake of driving multiple different vehicles.

She feel in love with it right away on the test drive but was worried about it being a Hyundai. Even you guys have to admit Hyundai has a history of being cheap cars. I know recently that has been a completely different story.

Only two issues I have with the car so far is it makes a popping noise on turns over bumps. I assume it’s a ball joint issue or something little I’m sure. Then the remote works about 1/3rd the time locking and unlocking the doors. Not sure what that is all about. I’m thinking battery in the remote but I need to look into the manual to find out if its that kind of setup that you can just replace it like most other remotes.

Congrats on your purchase! Not sure what those two issues are... I haven't run into them, but they seem easy enough to correct.

I, like you, also believed in the stigma of Hyundai ownership. It's hard to shake off failures like the Excel. What do you expect from a $4,995 car made from Mitsubishi leftover parts? It just goes to show you how reputation is a tough thing to change.

What matters now is the Hyundai of today - the reality. :)

Welcome to club!

I have to agree the build quality has vastly improved by leaps and bounds within the past 5 or so years. Even the domestic market has vastly improved, Honda is going downhill from what I’ve seen, Mazda is moving up. Over all I don’t think we will regret this car. It seems pretty solid and the power train is so smooth it blows my mind. I’ve driven several similar powered v6’s cars and the power transition is no where near as smooth and linear as this genesis is.

Just a update, the remote issue was just a dead battery. Its sad the stock battery only lasted 2 years but at least it was a simple fix. So I can't complain about that. 8)

Hot climate?

I think that was a reference to heat killing batteries.

It was. Im suprised i didnt need to replace one on my wifes car yet, she has left lights On many times. I also wonder if having the bat in the trunk helps prolong lifespan too.
My bmw engine bay was always around 240 degrees, talk about baking batteries

Ppp

I know what you mean about baking batteries. My mazdaspeed protege will really cook the engine bay. If you run it hard for any period of time forget about putting your hands on the hood. That turbo really heats things up.

Edit: I was suprised to see the battery in the trunk. So ill have to look under the hood to see the jump points on this car incase I ever need to do that. One thing I haven't found in the manual is what that werid motorized sun sheild type thing in the rear winsheild. The button for it appears to be right next to the memory positions for the mirrors. I'm still learning this car obviously and its my first luxury car so it has a lot of features that im not used to.

Just had to drop the car off at the dealership for a intermittant driver side door not unlocking or locking issues.... managed to get a 2012 cadillac ats as a rental and I'm not impressed by it. Despite it having a 4 banger it gets worse gas mileage then the genesis with a hell of a lot less power. The motor on this car has some werid noises for even a high mileage car. The rental doesn't even have 2.5k miles onit or maybe im hearing the direct injection at lower speeds. Either way it doesnt sound normal and the motor is loud like a cheap cavalier.

My 09 had a bad lock solenoid in the rear passenger side door that was an intermittent problem. Dealer fixed under warranty in about an hour.

Thats good to hear! They over nighted a few parts for the fix, but I have no idea what they are. The door lock is being covered under warranty. Either way im extremely happy with Key Hyundai so far and the customer service.

It took the dealer 3 days to replace the bad door lock solenoid and all is good.
