Loose Leather on Driver Seat

My seats were sent to a upholstery shop front and back seats the leather was pulled and stretch tight and re sowed and its look great. Frank Hyundai San Diego Ca.

Check this out.

Stangkiller just posted this. Look at the drivers seat in the pictures from the dealership link. And this is a new car?

http://www.genesisowners.com/hyundai-genesis-forum/showthread.php?t=11420

My seat wasn't even this bad when new and my car had 500 miles on it when purchased.

PLEASE be kind and do not hijack his thread and post about the troubles with the seats.

That's what mine looks like. Under 300 miles on a 2013.

Mine looks worse than that... but I've logged 10,500 miles.

I'm gonna point it out to the dealer when I get my next oil change. We'll see what they say.

And mine looks worse also. 38,000 miles buid date Oct 2008. I'll also mention this to the dealer at my appointment Wednesday, but I'm afraid they'll say it's normal wear. I'll stay optimistic until then:)

That's my fear too, Scott. The only saving grace is... I think this will get a lot worse in the next 10k miles, until eventually, there is no support and they'll have to do something.

Well.... I have 2200 miles on my 5.0. And I notice this morning, thanks to this thread, the leather in the driver seat between the thigh bolsters is stretching. I am 190lb.. And it should not matter it I was 275.

Do the Koreans sweat the detail? Been a Ford buyer for decades, never had Ny of the odd quality problems I see here on this site.

Just venting a little. I do not have time, nor should I have to fiddle around with fixing defects in this day and age.

You can be a smart ass Ford bigot.. I am relaying my experiences over 3.5 decades of owning many cars and trucks. Mercedes, Acura, Ford, and GM (Caddy, Chevy, Pontiac, Corvette. Your car calls is all emotion.

On the other hand, the potential faulty engineering, and designed in defects outlined in this forum should rattle any authentic thinking Genesis owner like myself.

We have seen cars bought back, dealers and Hyundai people in denial (although some have been great according to those posting), suspension defects, DI design problems, Valve deposits problems, oil blow through issues, DIS chaos, NAV updates complicated expensive and very high percentages are bricked. Seat issues, thin paint, and much more. And we are not taking about issues with high mileage cars. Most are lower mileage. Multiple owners with same problems.

I have never experienced these types of design defects with Ford cars or trucks. I could give all kind of my testimonials about Ford products. Like cars and trucks never going to the dealer for defects or design flaws that I have owned. However, I have no interest in a tinkle around the tree in fighting. Nor troll like comments above. It is not authentic nor productive for the Genesis owners in here.

C'mon guys.

Lets not have a war here. :grouphug:

I'm sure NSXNEXT was just bustin your chops. It's all in fun.:D

Not to turn this into a FORD flame war but I have shied away from FORD since 1989 when my new F-150 was in the shop for a total of six months for warranty related work. Issues with suspension, engine oil pressure, and my dash cracking less than 50 miles from when I left the dealer lot.

But I have to add that my FORD truck and my 1970 Cougar Eliminator never had a seat issue.

IMO, ALL manufacturers have flaws of some nature.

Okay. Back to the original thread.

Yeah, I never had any trouble with my previous ford either. Not even the one that, 2 weeks after buying it NEW, had its muffler FALL OFF the car. That's right... apparently, one of the screws holding it in place "failed".

Here's the best part: I take it in to get fixed, and they charged me $50 for the part. FOR A GLORIFIED SCREW!!! According to the dealer, "the part was not covered under the warranty."

The leather on that car was NOT real. The leather on my Passat was hard as my shoe. The leather on my Genesis is sublime; the problem is clearly the inferior/faulty cushioning underneath, not the leather itself. Something my dealer is going to remedy at no cost to me.

But yeah... Fords are better.

I agree with the ford owning dude, I have a 2011 explorer with leather and it looks good, my genesis has that stretch issue talked about in this forum. I have owned hondas and toyotas with leather and have never seen this stretch or wear like we are talking about in the genesis. Someone at hyundai missed the boat on leather seats. No excuse for this as I have not seen another brand with this issue.

Exactly. All manufacturers have flaws. I'm a senior moderator on a competitive forum and trust me the issues described on this forum are no different than the ones I hear everyday on the other forum.

And in a lot of cases significantly worse. Transmission failures for one.

Everyone needs to have thick skin if they want to live in an online community.

What we do know... Multiple problems, defects, design flaws, that are very repeatable with so many in here having the same problems.

The brakes failing (supposed to be "fixed" with some switch to DOT4.. Likely means internal are susceptible to some kind of moisture, temp, corrosion or some defective design).

And all the other repeatable items already mentioned above. If high volumes of these cars were out there, it would be in the public domain for sure.

I have growing disappointment. The car has so much promise and I enjoy it very much. However, with my other cars/trucks I currently own and previous cars/trucks owned, I have never seen this.

Here is a decent shot of the seat of my 2300 mile old Genesis. I wonder when the passenger or back seats will show this. The pictures are not perfect. However you can see the stretching easy.

While I am at this... My 160 gig Apple iPod I use in the Genesis works great. Too bad the DIS sucks.. It combines music, podcasts, books, manual recordings, all together in any category. "Music", all podcasts and books are cluttering it up. "Albums", and artists the same. Podcast category also has all music showing up. Makes it horrible to search on the display. Ford Sync does not have this problem. And it works well with my iPhone. The voice recognition does a decent job however. Not even close to Ford Sync I have in other vehicles. Same for Bluetooth. While this is not defects per say, they are design flaws, or inferior operation.

It doesn't look too bad. It sounds like you should trade it in for a Ford fusion .

Excuses excuses... Gelding sounding remark ockevin. It is stretched and you can see the difference between it and the passenger seat. The dealer where I bought it says at least 10 days before a loaner is available. Plus, they are not sure what to do.. Maybe I am the first one to actually want a seat that does not degrade very quickly since new.

And I already own a 2009 Fusion. Which has never seen a dealer in 76k miles. Not one engineering defect, not one repair.

Look, I like the Genesis. I spent the money. However, it is a disappointment to see these kind of defects. Not drinking Kool-aid of unconditional Genesis bliss around here brings out the zombies.

I for one definitely appreciate your efforts and pushing the issue with the particular dealer I assume is the same one you purchased the car from. I have a strong suspicion I'll be having to go down the same route with the '13 when I go pick her up. I'll definitely be taking before pictures upon first test drive... so thank you for paving the way as I'll be dealing with that same service dept.

Doug, my seat looked like yours does within 500 miles of purchase. I could probably live with it in a $15,000 Kia, but not what I would expect or tolerate in a $46,000 automobile! I too am not a big guy; 185 lbs.

I also agree about the DIS. My iPod has over 700 artists, over 1000 albums, and over 8000 songs. To navigate to say, an artist that starts with "T" would literally take my entire commute!

Conversely, an aftermarket Pioneer deck in my Dakota R/T allows me to search artist, album or song by picking a letter of the alphabet.

My Infiniti will do the same; just press and hold down on their equivalent of the DIS knob, and it will scroll the alphabet.

I never knew the upholstery was covered by warranty before I read this thread. The guys who sell the "protectant packages" must hate it.
Here's my upholstery issue: I've discovered a couple of small tears in the perforated leather on the back seat. It looks like that leather is much thinner than the leather on the front seats. I don't know what caused the tears. Could have been my dog, who's only been in the car once. But I don't know what else might have caused it.
So does anyone think Hyundai would repair the tears under warranty? Anyone?

Was your dog chewing on the seat or just sitting on it? Is your dog a Great Dane or a Pug?

IMO, if it looks as a seat separation you should be covered. Chew marks, uh....I think not. You could try?:D
