Mine looks worse than that... but I've logged 10,500 miles.
I'm gonna point it out to the dealer when I get my next oil change. We'll see what they say.
And mine looks worse also. 38,000 miles buid date Oct 2008. I'll also mention this to the dealer at my appointment Wednesday, but I'm afraid they'll say it's normal wear. I'll stay optimistic until then![]()
Been a Ford buyer for decades, never had Ny of the odd quality problems I see here on this site.
You can be a smart ass Ford bigot.. I am relaying my experiences over 3.5 decades of owning many cars and trucks. Mercedes, Acura, Ford, and GM (Caddy, Chevy, Pontiac, Corvette. Your car calls is all emotion.
On the other hand, the potential faulty engineering, and designed in defects outlined in this forum should rattle any authentic thinking Genesis owner like myself.
We have seen cars bought back, dealers and Hyundai people in denial (although some have been great according to those posting), suspension defects, DI design problems, Valve deposits problems, oil blow through issues, DIS chaos, NAV updates complicated expensive and very high percentages are bricked. Seat issues, thin paint, and much more. And we are not taking about issues with high mileage cars. Most are lower mileage. Multiple owners with same
problems.
I have never experienced these types of design defects with Ford cars or trucks. I could give all kind of my testimonials about Ford products. Like cars and trucks never going to the dealer for defects or design flaws that I have owned. However, I have no interest in a tinkle around the tree in fighting. Nor troll like comments above. It is not authentic nor productive for the Genesis owners in here.
IMO, ALL manufacturers have flaws of some nature.
It doesn't look too bad. It sounds like you should trade it in for a Ford fusion .
It is stretched and you can see the difference between it and the passenger seat. The dealer where I bought it says at least 10 days before a loaner is available. Plus, they are not sure what to do.. Maybe I am the first one to actually want a seat that does not degrade very quickly since new.
.
What we do know... Multiple problems, defects, design flaws, that are very repeatable with so many in here having the same problems.
The brakes failing (supposed to be "fixed" with some switch to DOT4.. Likely means internal are susceptible to some kind of moisture, temp, corrosion or some defective design).
And all the other repeatable items already mentioned above. If high volumes of these cars were out there, it would be in the public domain for sure.
I have growing disappointment. The car has so much promise and I enjoy it very much. However, with my other cars/trucks I currently own and previous cars/trucks owned, I have never seen this.
Here is a decent shot of the seat of my 2300 mile old Genesis. I wonder when the passenger or back seats will show this. The pictures are not perfect. However you can see the stretching easy.
While I am at this... My 160 gig Apple iPod I use in the Genesis works great. Too bad the DIS sucks.. It combines music, podcasts, books, manual recordings, all together in any category. "Music", all podcasts and books are cluttering it up. "Albums", and artists the same. Podcast category also has all music showing up. Makes it horrible to search on the display. Ford Sync does not have this problem. And it works well with my iPhone. The voice recognition does a decent job however. Not even close to Ford Sync I have in other vehicles. Same for Bluetooth. While this is not defects per say, they are design flaws, or inferior operation.

I never knew the upholstery was covered by warranty before I read this thread. The guys who sell the "protectant packages" must hate it.
Here's my upholstery issue: I've discovered a couple of small tears in the perforated leather on the back seat. It looks like that leather is much thinner than the leather on the front seats. I don't know what caused the tears. Could have been my dog, who's only been in the car once. But I don't know what else might have caused it.
So does anyone think Hyundai would repair the tears under warranty? Anyone?
