If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Quick video interview with Wendell Collins, Ride and Chassis engineer for Hyundai regarding some of the suspension changes on the new Genesis. Hope it provides some insight on the amount of work and time spent on making the Genesis a better riding car.

Wendell also made a video back in 2008 explaining the North American suspension tuning done in California for the 2009 Genesis sedan, which turned out to be one of worst suspensions ever rolled out on any car (it had to be modified mid-year 2009, 2010, and 2012).

In 2015 there are two different suspension designs, the regular one, and the adjustable CDC suspension that is on the V8 Ultimate Edition only.

Oh, my. Wendell Collins makes a very good sleeping pill.

And why, oh why, would Hyundai limit its new super-duper suspension to only the V8 model. It just boggles the mind.

I agree. Also filming him from the backseat while the big guy was twisting around was not helpful. I thought the Lotus engineer in the other video was much more informative and also shot a lot better from inside the car.

Obviously with a big boy like Wendell in there they have kept plenty of headroom going on. Seems like he has plenty of space between his head and the liner. Glad to see this as many are getting cramped up there.

Yeah this was a very good video by Motoman, they put out good stuff.

From what I've been told Hyundai engineers in USA are/were very limited in what they could change for the original Genesis. Keep in mind the car had already launched in Korea months before the US got the vehicles and getting Hyundai Korea to make changes was almost impossible. Things are a little bit different now, and one of the reasons Lotus was brought in, to help convince and re-affirm what the US engineers were wanting to do. Its a little backwards but the US engineers are a little like the red headed step child.

Probably $$.

Ya shooting from the backseat was not my first option and the interview was a little last minute. Also because there was a third person I couldnt setup my cameras the way I wanted.

It's very spacious indeed everyone should check it out when they hit dealers.

Did not realize it was you who shot it - considering the last minute grab, appreciate you getting him in any way possible. Thanks for sharing.

Knowing something about that, I don't completely agree with your analysis. HMA made changes to the North American version of the 2009 Genesis as Wendell explained in the video. The 2012 suspension is much better than the 2009-2011, basically with the same parts just tuned differently. The problem was that John Krafcik (former CEO of HMA) insisted the Genesis Korean suspension was way too soft and was aiming for something like Infiniti M or BMW 5 in terms of stiffness, but he forgot to make sure he get both the stiffness and the compliance of those other cars at the same time.

Anyway, it looks like Hyundai has addressed the suspension issues for 2015, which is what matters.

AAAAARRRRGGGG :mad::mad::mad:

Id rather not see Wendell ever again. That man caused me alot of pain back in 2009 !!!

Seat of the pants.... sheeesh man. Wendell, Please.

He's an engineer not a marketing weasel, who would have given you "dozens of highly focused road test studies, where suspension settings were adjusted, tested, and then adjusted and tested again and again."

Don't shoot the man for his choice of words, nor for the fact that despite what he was telling the beards, JK went and mucked up the 2009's back end anyway.

As an owner of a March-built 2009 V8 and having driven a 2012 4.6 multiple times, I can say that they made some great improvements to the suspension in the 2012 MY.

Thanks for the posting and thanks for taking the video. Hopefully there were some rougher roads thrown in there for good measure. The previous generation Genesis rode nicely when the road was as smooth and pristine as it appears to be in the video.

While Krafcik ultimately signed off on it, the engineers could have done a better job at the start and having those horrible OEM Dunlops made it that much worse.
