  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2015 Genesis Sedan Reviews

1st Comparison Test (that I've seen)

AutoGuide - 2014 Cadillac CTS vs 2015 Hyundai Genesis

The Verdict

It’s clear that the CTS and Genesis are targeting different customer bases within the mid-size luxury sedan market. The CTS is after the sporty, “Euro” crowd while the Genesis is targeting the more traditional comfort-orientated luxury car buyer. As improved and competitive as each car is within its sub-segment, one important factor still gives the Genesis a huge advantage; price.

Starting at just $38,950 after destination charges, the Hyundai offers a $7,000 price advantage over the base $46,025 CTS. Step up to our test vehicles and the gap widens as the Genesis V8 with the Ultimate Package comes in at $55,700 compared to the CTS Vsport premium that costs a whopping $72,640. While that is class competitive with BMW and Mercedes, it looks outright expensive compared to the Genesis.

The CTS may be a slightly better car than the Genesis, but it’s in no way $17,000 better. Hyundai continues to play the value game, which is bad news for the competition. The Genesis used to be a good car with a huge price advantage. Now, it’s a great car with a huge price advantage.

Really only dings on the Genesis are weight and fuel economy not surprisingly.

Interesting blurb from the true delta review:
" The lack of low-end grunt from the V6 is a bit of a surprise. With eight ratios, the automatic transmission could include a short first gear. And the engine was redesigned for 2015, gaining a three-stage intake manifold to bump low-end power at some expense to the top end (peak horsepower is down from 333 to 311).

The tested 5.0 suffered from one oddity no one else seems to have reported. When accelerating fairly aggressively over slightly uneven pavement, or even modestly with turning across the same, the rear suspension knocks about (on both sides when heading straight, and only one when turning). This suggests insufficient control of wheel hop. I didn't notice the same with the less torquey 3.8, but also spent less time in it. The new Genesis could have a minor suspension revision in its future. "

Son of a Bleeeeeep.....that explains the freaking noise I heard occasionally when taking off around corners in the 5.0, I thought the spare was loose or something was shifting in the trunk when I got on it. I only noticed it coming around corners at times but I'll definitely bring this up to my service manager today when I see him.....good info !!! Thanks :)

Update: Brought this to the attention of the service manager this morning and gave him a printout of the article from True-Delta that mentioned the same thing I was experiencing. He faxed/emailed a copy to whoever it needed to go to in HMA, hopefully they recognize this as a problem and come up with a solution (the sound it makes is very loud when it does happen).

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Keep us updated gameday22 on how you make out with the dealer. This is concerning depending on what they find. Looking forward to a response from them on this. Again, keep us posted.

Interesting! My folks have an Azera - from the first year or two they were available in the US with the adjustable pedals - and it too makes a loud clunk in the rear suspension at apparent random times while turning. Nobody has been able to fix it. Drives dad nuts. Of course the Azera is FWD so engine power shouldn't be loading the rear suspension.

My guess it will be the five nasty words we hate to hear from any dealer. "I cannot repeat the problem" and we will be all stuck with it. I hope he gets a response from Hyundai regarding this issue.

We have been able to repeat this, that's why he took the article and forwarded it to someone in HMA. If it's suspension related it might take some time for them to find a solution, don't they have to go back to Louts for this? just wondering....any feedback?

Because they only consulted Lotus, it's all Hyundai, but because Lotus has there name involved, my guess is they will be eager to help resolve the issue. They don't want to be associated with a suspension issue on a car they helped evaluate (if it is suspension related). Keep us posted.

Who writes these things, the Hyundai marketing people? There's just so many of them.

Finally, there's a review by actual car people in the latest (July) issue of Road & Track - page 42. They just call it like it is - a darn good luxury car at a reasonable price.

There are, however, statements like "Quick steering inputs result in ponderous, roll-heavy motions. The Genesis remains stable, but every lane change includes a ride on the Tilt-A-Whirl".

They like it , but don't consider it the greatest thing since sliced bread. Quite refreshing, really.

Yeah, I just saw that one - and in general it's pretty darn positive. Like you guys have been saying, they don't think Hyundai claims it to be a cutting edge "Sports Sedan", just a very good luxury sedan that represents good value. And they mention the much improved driving dynamics, ride and aesthetics. They're still not too sure about Hyundai, but they like this car.

[JoeDaytona;143910]"The entire car is so different you cannot compare to the older generation. The suspension is much better, the road holding and cornering is simply phenomenal in comparison to the old as I did hit this pretty hard, I was blown away. The seats are a huge improvement. The cabin is quieter and the transmission is simply seamless. If you did not hear the changes you would be hard pressed to feel it. Overall the entire car is a major improvement all around. "

Wow, its really that better?...I mean my 2012 is sweet....now I'm really excited...few more weeks and I'm diving in![/QUOTE

To my recollection most of the reviews I’ve read have said that it shouldn’t be considered a “Sport Sedan” but a well mannered Luxury car emphasis on Luxury. For me in particular that is what matters the most. There are a lot of us here that would like to think that their year or model to be the consummate “Sport Sedan”. While some are better than others the difference is marginal at best unless of course altered in some way from stock. I’ve driven the 2014’s in V6 and Rspec form when evaluating the cost justification of going with the 2015. The 2014s I would think to be the best if not the latest the 1st generation can offer in terms what I expect from a luxury car. It’s hard to be a “Jack” of all trades so a car needs a clear target to be considered. “For me” there is no doubt. The 2015 is a more refined car and a lesson well learned by Hyundai on how to build luxury cars. It did everything with an ease and poise that instills confidence. Money well spent.

I stand firm in my assessment.

since they stickied this thread, i going to keep adding reviews every now and then.

here's one from TheFastLaneCar guys (and girl, but not in this video). they do a ton of reviews and i'm surprised it took them so long to do the Genesis. overall a positive review but they (or the Nathan guy) seemed underwhelmed a bit.
like the previous video review i posted a couple pages ago, they (or the Roman guy) also give too much credit to Lotus for the suspension work.

I am amused at some of the items reviewers point out. In this case, that the temperature and volume knobs are the same size and in the same relative position. Really? Seems to me many genesis reviewers go out of their way to find things negative to say.

Or maybe it is just me?

picking up my 3.8 awd ultimate, black, on Tuesday (trading in 2012 genesis). It was very difficult for dealer to locate - apparently, all of the owners are keeping them for their company cars.

Useless review

Those guys are complete morons. 99% of people use the volume control on the steering wheel (which they sort of mentioned).

Did you notice they frequently took the car to redline (6000 PRM) even when idling? That's why I don't buy used or demo cars.

The problem with most reviews is the lack of time that they have with a car. Most of them get a day at best to form an opinion, then based off that they write a review and post some videos. What I'm wanting to see is the long term tests and how well she holds up to the daily commute etc.
