If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hey All, Just a quick story on how we came to purchase this car. My wife was heading home on the freeway in her 2011 Sonata hybrid with 30k miles, when out of the blue every warning light came on and the car lost power and shut off- no warning. She had it towed to the dealer. I cant' help her, I'm 700 miles away fishing in Baja.

The dealer calls and said " The motor has seized, but don't worry its under warranty, all the fluid levels were correct. The bad news is Hyundai doesn't have a complete motor in the US but we have ordered all the parts to build one and it should be running in four weeks" ....... (I went through the same partial motor replacement when my 6.4 diesel broke a crankshaft and it was never reliable after that).... So I say, "Go ahead and fix it and transfer me to sales"..... Sales agrees to give me a very fair price on the blown up sonata..

I call my wife and asked her to go down on Saturday and either buy another Sonata or look at the Genesis coupe R-Spec (Oh Yeah!)......... She goes to the dealer and looks at both and calls me back with-" I don't like the 2 door coupe, its too small, the salesman showed me the Genesis with 4 doors, I love it, it has so many options!".

...hmmmm, I thinking to myself that there is no effing way am I spending 50k on a fancy Hyundai- so I ask her to go and look at- Lexus, Infinity, Lincoln, Cadillac, Audi and BMW.

She looked at them all and came home with the car that has the most room, coolest options and of course the most important thing to her- the best looking of the bunch!

So, a week later I get home from Baja and I get the tour of her new luxury car including a short ride. I'm impressed! The fit and finish, the overall look and the options are almost endless.. "Come on babe, let me drive it" she reluctantly agrees... Holy shit! What a great car! (I had asked her to get the V8 but she said they didn't have one in red! DOH!!), but it still performs pretty damn good.

The stock wheels appear too narrow to me, I think the staggered look may be an option so I called Jim and ordered what I guessed might fit. He played it safe and brought in 3 sizes of rear tires. I ended up with Toyo 255/35/20 on 8.5x20 wheels for the front and 295/30/20 on 9.5x20 for the rear.

I also de-badged the rear,

I am amazed at the number of people that say " What a gorgeous car, is it an Aston Martin or a Bentley? LOL...

This may be the car that finally removes the shadow that Hyundai has been under. Look at what Audi has accomplished, I remember when you couldn't give one of those away.

And finally, I can vouch for the saying " Happy wife-Happy life" Thank you Hyundai!:D

I would like to lower it an inch or two, can anyone recommend springs?

It looks amazing and DAMN those tires are wide. Thanks for sharing the pics.

Hell with the car, more pics of the wife!

^
Come'on Ernie.
Behave yourself. :D
I must agree though both look stunning!

LOL, I'll pass the compliment on to her.

But, please keep in mind rule #4 in the guy's handbook,

#4. Although they may look a little different , down deep they are all the same! Crazy!

Great story Big Mike. Until that last comment... now it's a HILARIOUS story! LOL!! That cracked me up. Gotta love us! (my poor husband)

BTW... I love the car!! Tell wifey to GO WITH HER BAD SELF! ;)

My tire guy ordered these center cap decals online and installed em today.

Sometimes its the little details complete the look..

Perfect..

How's those lowering springs coming along? :)

Good question, I would like to drop it an inch or two. Can anyone recommend a set of springs for 2015?

Great story, beautiful car and wife! Red is a very rare color for the previous generation Genesis; in fact the only one I've ever seen was in a movie. In any case, welcome!! I'm not feeling the replacement wheels as much, but who gives a rat's ass what I think?!!? :D

Thanks! I'm not 100% sold on these wheels either. The ones I wanted are out of stock for months to come and I couldn't deal with the stockers- They show way to much brake dust which made the whole car look like shit, even with just one day of driving on em. If the front and rear were equally dirty it would have been fine but the fronts looked filthy and the rears were clean which really stood out. It's a daily driver and gets a bath only once every week or two.

These are already black chrome on the inside and don't show the brake dust as bad..

What a beauty. I'm also seriously thinking of a red 3.8, with Sig. & Tech packages. My wife feels that nine out of ten modern cars just look dull, with their gray, silver, white, and black paint jobs. I doubt if I'll do much with the tires and wheels, unless I get a set of snows (unless I get the AWD)

PS Did you do the rear badge yourself??

There are probably thousands of posts on this forum on how to replace the rear badge yourself. They include pics and video's. There is a slight difference in how to remove the "posts" on the 2015 rear wings.

Hey Bill, The car came with the wings but I removed the "GENESIS" and "3.8" from the trunk lid..

I watched a few youtube vids and decided I would rather not chance effing up the car and would have a shop do it....... Then a couple of days later I was closing the trunk and noticed they were barely attached (sun was beating on them- 95 degrees). I just slowly lifted each letter with just my fingers(no tools, no heat gun, nada), rolled off the excess foam/glue with my thumb and did a finale wipe with goo-gone... followed up with a little Maguire's instant detail spray. Total time under 10 minutes.
