  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Front License Plate

Personally I think placing the plate lower looks bad. It breaks the flow of the grill outline and will inevidably cause rub marks on the lower contact point. I also think that only having two attachment screws will after awhile cause cracking around these points on the grill just through the constant wind pushing on the surface or just think if someone reefed on it, that would destroy the grill . If you look at other cars i.e. the Audi A4 A6 A8 S8, they all have their plates mounted in the middle of their grills.

In short I think lowering the plate the way that has been portrayed in most post here will be regretted in the long term. Just my two bits.

I agree - but to each his own.

I am debating this. The Grand Cherokee front plate bracket works perfectly for the lower mount. I have held both up numerous times trying to decide (I have 1 plate mounted on each bracket).

If I decide on the lower mount, I could switch to the higher mount later on because the screw holes would be hidden. If I start with the upper mount, I will have to use plugs in the holes.

My temporary tag expires November 18th, so I have to decide before then.

Drove behind/along side/in front of a Black Genny on the So Cal freeways this weekend for about 30 miles. He had no front plate and after staring in my rear view mirror at it I decided to do the same and removed the bracket all together (fingers crossed that I don't get a ticket...and if I do, it's just a fix-it ticket anyway).

I usually drive with just the LED border headlights on during the day...Dont know if it is coincidence or not but after the Black Genny was in front of me for a while I noticed he went from daytime running lights to the same LED border lights.

Think we both were inspired from one another in different ways.

I do not where you are located, but in many regions it is a $75 or greater fine and shows up on records. The advent of tag readers and enhanced security have made these stops more prevelant and less of a "no bid deal" stop. While a small fee to some, it is also an inconvenience and opens up the possibility of other areas of scrutiny when giving law enforcement an open invitation to pull you over. After stroking a check on my previous car, I got over the desire and was willing to trade some vanity by removing an open advertisement to pull me over every time I saw a cop.

Yep, but we have no choice in commie California. I have a ticket right now for no front plate and tint= cost is 50.00 with corrections and 360.00 if not corrected. I'm paying the 360.00 for now, but that doesn't get me a free pass. If I get another I will remove the tint and add a plate...

If you are breaking the law you should be fined. Both issues are critical law enforcement tools. There are 19 states without a front plate but the US is the only developed country that allows only one plate in some states.

Fortunately, I've lived in two of the states that are civilized enough to not require front plates!

Lucky you - it really makes me feel real bad that 19 states don't conform to the standards of other countries.

Fine those suckers!

Not all other countries require a front plate, for example several Mexican states have rear only.

I used to be in the DMV business and you would be surprised at who lobbies hardest for the front plate. It isn't police or security but rather the companies who provide material for the plates, they stand to lose half their revenue with a rear-only law change so they fight to keep two plates. Follow the money as they say....

I was curious about the "other countries" observation - In any case, I've traveled to maybe 35 countries, and see little or no reason to copy what they do.

Follow the money?? I would have thought the big pushers for two plates would be the states relying heavily on cameras as a fund raiser like D.C. They openly admit now that it's all about the money.

The money that "it is all about" is being paid by traffic law violators. Rather them than me. There is an epidemic of red light running in recent years, if my area is any indicator. I say hang them in any way possible.

I feel bad for the 31 states that are so backwards as to still require front plates!

I was not serious at all - as I pointed out in a subsequent post - copying what other countries do is not my bag - license plates, or otherwise.

Get rid of front plates! And save the environment!

You expect to get an answer here? How is this related to the thread topic of front license plate??

His first post...give him a break. He will find his way

Or maybe you could use those unused front license plates to fabricate air intakes -

Was just letting him know he won't get an answer on air intakes in a license plate thread...
