Re: 2015 Genesis: post up your compliments/stares/double takes thread

Just picked up my 2015 Genesis 3.8 AWB, Caspian black, black interior tonight. My neighbor came out of his house and saw the word "Genesis" on the ground and freaked out! It was funny watching his reaction.

Yesterday I was stopped in a construction zone. As the civilian flagger started waving me forward, she did a hard double take at the front of my car. As I'm driving by her, she yells "Nice Aston Martin!!!" and gives the thumbs up.

Re: 2015 Genesis: post up your compliments/stares/double takes thread

This past Thursday, a gentleman who works for a business next door to my office (shared parking lot) was checking out my new 2015 Genesis when I was walking out to my car to go to lunch. He drives a 2006 S500 but used to own a 2010 E-Class and sold it because it was too small. I let him check out my car and he said he liked it much better than the E-Class he used to own. I told him that the Genesis was designed to compete with the 5 Series BMW and the E-Class Mercedes. My car was the first 2015 Genesis that he had seen and he was impressed.

Also, the Sales Manager at my company has a Lexus LS 460 (Wife's Car) and he thought the Genesis compared very favorably to their Lexus. When I told him what I paid, he told me he didn't want to take a ride with me because it might just tempt him into getting one for himself.

From my short time of owning this car, I've noticed a common denominator. That is seeing it in person/going for a ride has impressed every single person to date and destroys any negative preconceived notion the person has about Hyundai.

+1 So, so very true. All too often there are people looking to squeeze a glass of sour grapes. With my Genny, not ONE person hasn't been envious (not my thing) but more important hasn't been impressed with what a company can create when it tries (and as a human and an Investor looking to the Connectedness of the Future that makes me happy). It's great when a new company makes the kind of waves that I hope will lift ALL boats; set new bars that all the other companies will feel they need to leap over.

 Metaphor Girl over and out.

Re: 2015 Genesis: post up your compliments/stares/double takes thread

After leaving the supermarket this morning, I was opening the drivers door to get in and noticed a man starring at the front of the car as he walked by. I get in, looked over and he is still looking at the car as he is approaching his vehicle. He apparently looked to long at the car because he walked into the side of his vehicle and dropped a bag of groceries.

At the mall today a dude fixed on my 5.0 Montacito Blue Genesis. I think he was tring to figure out what brand it was.

Re: 2015 Genesis: post up your compliments/stares/double takes thread

Carwash guys at Waterway pulled the car out to dry it and kept pointing at the HUD and looking at it inside the car. They thought it was pretty cool.

Picking up take out at 99's i had told them i would be driving a gray Hyundai. Poor girl did a triple take before coming out and asking if i had called in. She had no idea what it was, but her eyes told her it wasn't a Hyundai.

Re: 2015 Genesis: post up your compliments/stares/double takes thread

On Saturday night my wife and I went dancing and the place we attended gave me no choice but to Valet; it was on a resort and the nearest parking spot was a half-mile away. The guy was cool though and kept it right up front. When I picked it up, he told me, "That is literally the nicest car I've ever driven." I told him it was a Hyundai and he was blown away.

Yesterday while driving into my subdivision there was a couple walking and as I passed them I watched the guy's head stop and follow my car in my rear view mirror.

Unlike the 'badge is the most important thing' segment of today's luxury market the Genesis reminds me of my wonderful old VW W12 Phaeton.
The Genesis, no matter what people mistake it for, is a car for people that like to wear their designer cloths with the labels on the inside.
Ever hear anyone say while looking at [your] Bentley, Aston or A8, "Nice Genesis!" ;).

Pretty much sums it up. Unless their "premium" lineup gets separated and even if it did, I would think it will take 20 years + before the brand name would be as luxurious as the existing ones.

To be honest, I like it this way. Far and few between and with wings on the trunk people do not associate it with a Hyundai so they gawk thinking wow, what is that. That being said, I love the astonishment in faces when I tell them it's a Hyundai. One guy at the shopping center was walking around my car, looking at the tires and basically everything. When I got there he asked me what kind of gorgeous car this was. When I told him it was a Hyundai he walked away in disgust saying "and I thought this was some exotic car" Just goes to show you much impact a name can actually have.

Re: 2015 Genesis: post up your compliments/stares/double takes thread

^Lol that's pretty funny. So far have been mistaken for Bentley once and my neighbor noticed the nice new car, assumed it was a Chrysler!

Do most of y'all have your cars debadged? Should seem obvious from the rear that the car is a Genesis.

Re: 2015 Genesis: post up your compliments/stares/double takes thread

Yesterday afternoon, I merged with traffic on the highway. I look over in the high speed lane next to me and observe an Audi TT. The driver looked over and gave the thumbs up, as did I right back.

Re: 2015 Genesis: post up your compliments/stares/double takes thread

I have driven every luxury car (BMW, Lexus, Mercedes, etc.) and can't remember anyone making a big deal about one of my cars until I got an Equus a few years ago. With that car people who stop me to talk about it all the time, it was unbelievable. I recently got the new genesis, so far several people at work have asked about it and one of my neighbors approached me about it, if getting a BMW or Mercedes is for status, I get much more attention with the Hyundai's.

I agree, I've already had several people ask me about it and I've only had the car for just over a week. It's definitely an attention getter. I also think it's only a matter of time before Genesis starts being associated with the typical players in this space by the average joe. Lexus started from the bottom and look at them now. This car has won more awards and accolades than the others and its the best looking car in it's class imo.

Just out of curiousity, why did you trade in the Equus? Was it too much car? I've always had a secret obsession with that car and kind of wanted one hah. Genesis was way more affordable though.

Re: 2015 Genesis: post up your compliments/stares/double takes thread

A bit off-topic, but I think the next generation of Equus (the one built on the 2nd gen Genesis platform) is going to be killer. There are going to be a lot of current 2nd gen Genesis owners who have Equus envy when it comes out.

When is it scheduled to come out?

soldonandy - The reason it is a head turner is two fold. One it's design and second, there are few and far in between on the roads so not many people know what it is. I love the looks and compliments I get with this car.
