  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Uniq Performance Rigid Collars

In the R-Spec. What is the difference felt after installing these? Is it softer ride? Stiffer ride? What?

It's not a stiffer or softer ride. These don't change that. It makes the car body/sub-frame assemblies more *solid*, with less body flex. You notice the difference immediately. My ESC noticed the difference also. Making a sharp right-hand turn under throttle always tries to lift the right read tire, and the ESC kicks in to stop the spin. I noticed a big reduction in lifting the tire, it stays planted much better. The ESC doesn't kick in nearly as much, almost eliminating any throttle pause due to the ESC. I also noticed that at speed on a tight curve with bumps over a bridge, that it doesn't try to drift over into the other lane nearly as much, staying planted in my lane.

Placed the order. I couldn't resist. My biggest complaint on the Genesis (coming from a G35) was the steering wheel feel. If this address that, I'll be extremely happy.

Looking forward to my first real mod on the Genesis!

Anyone know anyone who has installed these some years ago in any model car, that lives where there is rain and wet? Where they have inspected the mods to see if any aluminum corrosion has started? I sure you like to put these on. And want to know they will no have galvanic corrosion problems. Would be expensive to pull and and replace?

For what it is worth here is my take on this mod for the R-Spec:

This mod made a significant impact in regards to the ride quality, so I have also installed it on the 4.6, which reviewed few pages later...

In my humble opinion these collars should installed first prior to trying to replacing other bits (such as sway bars, shocks etc) in an attempt to enhance the ride quality for any given driving style / road condition...

I just ordered a set of these collars. Planning to have these installed soon. I see a few threads on here about the location of install. However, there seems to be some uncertainty or disagreement as to the proper location of these based upon markings.

Do they come with instructions for location? What is the proper marking for the proper location?

These should fit all the Sedans

Are you sure this will work with Gen2 Sedans? It's possible that they chose the same number and size of mounting points but its also possible they went with something else.

I have doubts that the first Gen collars would fit Gen 2 - or at least as the manufacturer would have originally intended. There Gen 2 is a totally new platform. There might be more or less frame/sub-frame connection points and they could be different diameters. As an example, there are two collars in the set that are very specific thicknesses that go into smaller frame holes in the 09-14 Sedans.

On a side note, I installed the collars I took off my 2012 V6 onto my 2012 V8. I put the collars on my V6 at less than 10,000 miles so I was disappointed when I didn't notice that much of a difference.

I'm happy to report that adding them to the V8, which has around 25,000 miles made a HUGE difference. The biggest difference was in the steering feedback and tautness. It feels more responsive now and there's definitely less play in it at center. When installing the collars I noticed that several of the bolts up front had a half millimeter or more of "wiggle room" around the bolt shaft. The collars really tighten that up.

How long were they in total time installed for each car? Notice any white powder like substance, or galvanic corrosion when you pulled them out of the V6? Since they deform to match the holes, seems like they are not a one time compression fit for one car, and not then fit on the second. Or were there slight difference already compressed that does not show up reducing the improvement? Thanks.

I'm sure they are a one time fit for the car. The size of the collars prior to installation is slightly larger than necessary and the softer metal deforms to match the shape of the bolt hole. Once they have taken that shape I think putting them anywhere else will defeat the purpose of having collars as they won't fit the same way if the bolt hole is slightly larger. The tolerances are still fairly tight too so using an undeformed collar on a bolt hole that is slightly larger than the intended one may not give you the same tight fit.

Ran them for no longer than a year I believe. They were in great shape still - no corrosion and no deformity. They popped right out of the holes when I loosened the bolts. I used a torque wrench so I know they were torqued to spec. I know the Spoon collars (not for our car obviously) deform to fit, but I don't think these Uniq collars do deform. They seems to more or less be in identical condition when I removed them.

If the collars were slightly larger than the hole you were putting them in then maybe you were putting them into the wrong holes. I followed the instructions from Uniq and others on this board and each collar went in (and then back out with the V6) easily.

Thanks for the detail. Helps..

No it was a fairly simple install. I supported the subframe so it was easier to fit the collars.

I installed the collars on my 2014 5.0 and to be honest, not sure there is a noticeable difference. I have been driving on them for about 2 months. However, with that said, for $150 for purchase and install - I figured it was worth it.
