Recall/Free Tire Replacement???

It sucks but only in principal. I simply can't find any reason (or place for that matter) that I would ever need to go that fast. With 20K miles on our Genesis, free tires means a hell of lot more to me than getting to a speed I would never drive at. If we were talking about a sports car I would take to the track, I'd still take the freebies and buy a set of track tires.

I'll never drive that fast either, but why not just put an equivalent speed rated tire on the car? They originally designed the car with specific top end capabilities and equipped it with tires to handle it. Why the hell would they now reprogram it to lop 20 mph off it's potential top speed versus just giving it proper tires rated for it's orginal factory performance specs???? Especially since they say that a small number of people seem to have the "issue" with the Hankooks! Any way you dice it, Hyundai seems to be planning to downgrade the car you bought if you let them put the new tires on it! No thanks - I'll pass...

Appears that a minority voice push for more of a softer luxury sedan has now had a new effect on the car via tires. If there ever was a need for an RSPEC version it is now - the move to lower rated, foam-filled unperformance all season tires seems to be pushing the car deeper into Lincoln territory.

Agree. It's interesting that the OEM hankooks are on closeout at Tire Rack, but the non OEM Ventus S1 noble2's (higher load rating ones) are not? Also, my Hankooks are "W" rated (168 mph) while the Michelins are "V" rated (149 mph) - so why would they need to reprogram limit to 130 mph when they install the Michelins?

I'm good with this.

I like it as an "optional" thing. I am planning to do it, but I don't like to be told that I have to.

If Hyundai spins this right, it will be as good as the "Hyundai message invisible from space": nobody has EVER done it, and it shows commitment to an idea (see target market statement at beginning).

And even the truth without spin looks okay to me. Hyundai could have been stupid (looking at you VW and you Audi from decades ago), but they did a fairly decent thing.

I am good with it. I would prefer the Michelin Pilot Exalto PE2 to match "my little car", but ...

$1200 in free tires? Try less than $800 in free tires, with a down grade from Ultra Performance AS to Grand Touring AS with a lower speed rating. Throw in a ECC downgrade to limit the cars top end potential and that's what Hyundai is offering...

I agree. Sick..... Monolith has a V6... Hyundai now thinks who cares about speed rating of a V6, reduce the top end down... Yep, sick and a joke. As for those that say free $1200 tires? Well, they would be first to note that YOUR car was modified to limit speed and be worth less as a used car someone in here might want to buy. They would howl how your car was inferior for its limits in speed. After the sniping was over, I must say, I would silently agree with only the premise, your car is worth less.

Unless those same pricklers who shafted you with lower CPU speed limit, would change it back. For free,,,

Right - but the highlighted comments in the post he responded to were about the reprgramming of the V6 if you go for the ~$800 worth of new Michelins.

My bad, $800 in free tires or you can keep your high performance tires and car CPU stock. No one is twisting arms to "downgrade" your tires and CPU.

The premise of the replacement is to improve ride quality, whether you buy into that or not is up to you, you have a choice. What other car company says you can have free tires in the next three years?

I don't see anyone else offering that, ever. Maybe that late 90's Ford Explorer...

Please cite your data on cars governed at 130 being worth less at resale than those governed at 150. Better be >$900 (installed) or you will come out ahead, assuming you wear out the hankooks preswap.

Was almost scared to look in this thread after seeing the outrage over the ECU downgrade. I look at it this way. It's optional and for those who value the capability to hit 150 in their car, you can decline the offer. If this was a safety thing, it would be a mandatory recall so I give Hyundai props for making the offer. My service advisor said that the ECU flash can be reversed. I do not know if that is 100% true but doesn't seem unreasonable.

I agree with the issue some have that on principle, it kinda sucks. The reality is I've owned more sporting cars and never went past 120 and I'm definitely not going to ever go 130 in this car so it's worth the upgrade for me. As far as devaluing the car, I seriously doubt it. I doubt most people know what their car's top speeds are or care (in the US) unless they are racing or hooligans. Hyundai is fully disclosing that the ECU would flash will lower governor since I doubt any of us would know otherwise. We have the information to decide what we want or need from our cars.

If you Hankook's are ok, no flat spots - than don't bother with their offer. I know I wouldn't.

I agree, no one drives 130mph+ on daily bases (not even me ), but why downgrading with lower speed rating tires? Continental DWS's would be much better choice.

btw. ECU flash is reversible.

What a ludicrous statement, even for an internet forum. Here we have a company, Hyundai, going way above and beyond the norm to delight their customers with free top name brand tires, if you decide you'd want them. Yet somehow you distort that into being screwed, ridiculous.

Has anyone tried to see if they would allow you to pay the difference for a high speed rated tire? Say Michelin Pilot Super Sport(Max Performance Summer). $1432 per set on Tire Rack for the 5.0 set.
