Stalk/foglights v6 replacement

I thought there was a DRL OFF setting on the left stalk? Where is that?

It's just replaced with a plain OFF setting - which means and does the same thing = no external lights on in that position.

One question - the fog light switch on the left stalk seems spring loaded and does not stay in the upper "on" position - it moves back to the "off" after you push it up to the "on" position (versus the wiper speed control on the right stalk that stays in several detent positions). Is that the way the foglight switch works? I want to make sure the stalk is not defective before I pull the wheel to install it. Thanks!

Yes, it springs back. Only way to tell if ON, is the indicator light above gauges.

Just got my stalk and harness in from eBay today! Once I get my car back from the dealer (sunroof rattle fix - hopefully), I'll get this wired up. Thanks for verifying this - it's great to be able to wire it up and have it function exactly as OEM!

That's how they work , they are not like the wipers that stay up. Up to turn on , up to turn off. Remember to reorder the wire to the sensor. If I remember correctly is the left and two Bottom sensor that are reversed everything thing else is correct. The joint connectors are fine. But double check

Thanks - not sure if I'll pull the bumper (a little apprehensive about doing that) and replace the whole harness or leave it in place and just make a new subharness for the fog lights out of the eBay harness, thread it through and then tie that in to the existing harness connector (as you said, I tried it and it is easy to remove and reinstall the pins). Thanks again for figuring out and sharing this, essentially OEM, install for foglights on the 3.8's!

The bumper is super easy to take off , I've done it plenty of times. You have 2 options, remove the two Orange and black wire with foglights connectors or reoder the pins to the sensors . Honestly just reorder the sensor pin to match the factory hardness. It takes less then five minutes. If you flip the sensor upside down you'll notice that how they match the factory hardness sensor connectors.

To remove the bumper

Take off the front engine cover. Now go under the car and remove all the FRONT plastic screw from the bottom cover. Remove just the front screws, you don't have to remove the whole bottom cover. Just unscrew the ones that are attached to the bumper. Now on the side in front off the tires there's like 5 screw u need to take out on both side. Now go back to the engine where you remove the cover there's four screw plus 2 plastic screw to remove. Now pull the bumper. Start by the left tire , pull towards you, you'll see unclip just a little . Go to the other end by the right corner tire and do the same. Ones you do that now you able to see the bumper hardness , disconnect the hardness. Now the last part is to push the bumper right under the headlights on both sides. Push by putting your hands inside in front of the tires you unclip. Don't be scared to put a little force. Now the bumper should just be hanging by the top.

Remove front engine cover plus the 6 screws under it. Remove the 4 screws on each sides in front of the tires. Remove the bottom screw that are attache to the bumper for the under body cover . Now all you have to do is pull and unclip the bumper. Hope this helps. Is easy trust me.

Thanks - do all 4 of the sensors need the pins reordered? How many pins on each need to be reordered? The sensors have 2, 3 or 4 black wires along with a green and white wire - If the black ones need to be reordered, that makes it a little harder (easier to mix wires accidentally).

Ones you disconnect the factory hardness, just match the factory sensors pins . They need to be exactly the same or the sensor won't have contact. If you open the joint connectors you'll notice that's where all the wire lead to and they all connect together by some Metal pins . All the sensors black wires are ground and they all lead to one of the joint connector .The green and white wire go to the other joint connector, all the white wires have contact and all the green wire have contact but separate from the white. What this means they all share the same power source. All the whites are connected together so is the green and black wires by the joint connector. As long as they're place where they need to be you won't have a problem.

I just had my dealer swap out the multi-function switch as I was not comfortable withe messing with the air bag. It works perfectly! I just need to tap into the wiring harness and I'm done.

The reaction of the service advisor was priceless! He came back and said: "The tech has a lot of questions. You want to put a multi-function switch with fog-lights on a car that doesn't have fog-lights?!?!" (The fog-lights are mounted, just not hooked up yet)

This could be a profit item for any dealership as an after-market option.

Same here - after reading on the Hyundai Tech Site that you need a special tool to remove the wheel/airbag, I decided to just have the dealer install the stalk when they replace the backordered radio in a few weeks. Don't want to risk screwing up the airbag!

How much did the dealer charge you?

Update!!!!!! Don't bother getting the harness. The sensor are not working properly. Just tap into the black and orange wires to give the foglights power and leave the original harness in place . Since I have the the harness and is going to be a pain to return it , I'm just going to cut out the two Orange and black wires with the foglights plugs and reconnect it with the original harness and tape it together. The pins are easy to take out

Here's a picture of the pins and factory harness the four corners are for you foglights Orange and black wires that you could disconnect from the harness you order on eBay and put here
Ok, I did an exploratory with a tech. When I again convinced him that indeed there was a connector with orange a black wires we located it on the driver's side.

In my case, I only saw the four wires, but I did not get a great look. I assume that because I have only the Signature option, there are no sensors in the front.

I'm curious that I only see three wires in your harness. What options do you have?

It looks as if Hyundai may have designed the foglights to be added as a dealer option.

I have a 3.8 AWD Ultimate - the bumper harness has the 2 Orange and 2 Black wire for the foglights and then 3 wires for the parking sensors (White, Green and Black). That's it.

I'm not to sure about the signature package since there's no front bumper hardness at all. Look under the driver side headlights. Take pics, see if there's a hardness. The picture you saw was from the v6 factory hardness which is missing the foglights connectors. I took a pic this what you should look for

Thanks, I ordered the harness from rpmtrade on ebay. My dealer offered to order a harness that would have worked with the 5.0, but the cost was much more expensive. I'll just snip off the parking sensors. The connectors for the foglights are $26 just by themselves and I get a proper connector on the other end.

What dealer did you go to in the DFW area? I want to get the same thing done as well on my car

Huffines Plano. I would talk to their Service Manager, PJ, first.

If you are handy, the front bumper cover is not difficult to remove and that makes putting in the foglights and harness a breeze. In my case, I had some front road FOD that was being repaired which required the bumper cover to be taken off for repainting. I had them mount my foglights at that time as part of the deal since they had to remove the dummies for painting anyway. I wish the harness had been available when my car got it's "nose job".

What trim level do yo have? They quoted me $450+ in labor (to be honest I kind of tuned out at that point) to replace the front harness, which probably includes pulling the bumper cover. If I didn't have the foglights mounted, it might have been more attractive. Given that it will just be the four wires, I will see what a local garage will charge to pull the bottom cover, make the connections and zip tie the harness to the bumper cover without having to pull the bumper cover. Given my back, my days of crawling under cars are over.

Yep, that's what I saw but without the three sensor wires. It really looks as if foglights were designed for an after-market dealer add-on.

The tech didn't believe me. He hooked up the OBD and looked at the computer output when he turned on the foglights. He just shook his head and said: "This is the first time I've seen this." He was pretty cool. :)

I'm really surprised that Hyundai hasn't offered this as a product.

I have a feeling Hyundai knew exactly what they were doing.... in teasing 1st year buyers :)

It is important to note that for many years across many manufacturers the core harness will be the same across all trim & option levels. It's just cheaper to produce them that way. Add-on harnesses for higher level or optional equipment will simply plug into the core harness - and the electronics to control those add-ons will also come on the base model. The absence of the add-on is the "bypass" as it were.

Hell - even motorcycles have been doing this for a while. Case in point - the Honda Goldwing has essentially been the same bike since 2001. Options include: 6 disc changer, CB radio and others. These add-ons have handlebar-mounted controls which are present and un-used if you do not have the hardware - but the wiring is also in place as part of the main harness and goes all the way to trunk to connect to the accessories if you install them via large DIN plug.

All that being said...

Looks like the joke is on '15 owners.... as the 16 comes with fog lights on the 3.8 Signature.
