Stalk/foglights v6 replacement

Started on this today. It was surprisingly easy to swap out the turn signal stalk. The bumper cover removal was much more difficult. Nobody mentioned that the light washer covers pull off. I fought with that for a little while. Got everything installed and Fog Lights did not come on. After a little investigation I was disappointed to discover that on my car (2015 3.8 Ultimate) did not have the Fog Light wiring on the "car" side of the connector. Has anybody else run into this? It wouldn't be such a big deal but I already changed out the stalk so would prefer to be able to use it. Anybody know where the fog light wires originate from?

Thanks!

Shawn

@Shawn33

I am surprised that you did not have wires on the car side of the harness.

The bumper side on mine did not have wires, but I tapped into the wires on the four corners of the car side harness.

Where did you connect the fog lights? Also does the fog light indicator on the dashboard illuminate when you toggle the switch?

You replaced the wiring harness? We need more details. If your car has the front parking sensors the wiring should be there.

I replaced the harness on the bumper cover. The harness that came with the car only had sensor connections and I replaced it with the one with sensors and fog light connections. The sensor wires where on the large connector but the orange and black wires are not there.

Currently my fogs are not powered as ideally I would like to find out where the wires came from to try to keep it as stock as possible. Worst case I want to get the pins and put the wires into the connector so at least its easy to remove the bumper cover.

The Fog Light Indicator on the Dash does Turn on and off with the switch. Leading me to believe if the wiring were there it should be functioning. Are the relays part of a Body Control Module or are they discrete parts?

Thanks!

Shawn

Understood. The orange and black wires are missing. I have no idea where those wires lead to.

Hi, i need the wire harness that came with parking sensor only.
Someone can sell ?? I try to work the wire harness that bought in Korea with fog, but never have the original. So i reversed the wires and never have luck.
Thanks.
Any respond is appreciated. Thanks. Again

Hi, I have a 2015 3.8 Ultimate AWD and do not see the orange and black wires on the connector. Will this setup work for me or am I missing something? Thanks!

oh wow i had no idea you could do this. I always thought it was just tapping it into another wire but theres an actual control unit for this

I don't know if anyone is still interested in doing this but I am currently in the process of putting fog lights on my car. I am not 100% sure that it will work. I am trusting some of the people on here that I have used as research. I have talked to mechanics at my dealership that said either it can't be done or would be ridiculously expensive. I have read posts where guys wired directly to the low beams with relays or inline fuses, there were lots of warning and seemed dangerous with no one clear answer. I have read through this entire thread and decided to try to go as factory as I can based on dxtra196's experience.

Here is what I bought:

Two Factory Fog Lights from Ebay for $300 total
One factory harness from a Hyundai dealer $150. Part Number 91840B1040. The one on ebay is a little cheaper but I read that it wasn't wired properly require soldering and seemed like a hassle not worth the couple of extra bucks. For a few more dollars I got the real deal and it shipped a lot quicker. No muss no fuss.

I bought the stalk from ebay because dxtra196 said it worked with no problems so I am taking a leap of faith. Total $180 with shipping. I have not done this part yet since I don't have the part so I don't know if this will work or not. Again leap of faith. I will update once I have the part installed.

I have seen a lot of incomplete instructions or instructions that weren't dumbed down enough for me. So for those of you that are still interested in doing this here is my take on it. I took some pictures but for the most part it should be pretty self explanatory if you have the parts in front of you and take some time to look at your car with these instructions to follow along.

Remove top cover there are plastic rivets. You push the center in gently and then you can pull out the rivet by hand. Find 13 plastic rivets push down pin in the middle then pry up set aside and remove top cover. Once you remove the cover you will see that the bumper is still connected to the frame. To disconnect top of bumper from the frame use a 10mm wrench to remove 4 bolts. On each wheel well there are one normal screw and 4-5 plastic screw/rivets. Use a phillips head to remove these. I needed to turn the tires to get good access to each side. Underneath you will find more of the plastic screw/rivets. Some of mine were missing but I would say there are about six total.

The next thing to remove is the headlight washer covers. You can pull these out and then hold the extending part to get a better hold of the cover. Gently rock the cover side to side and it will slide off (some fluid will come out when you are messing with them). I took a picture.

The final thing to do is to disconnect the sensor harness from the car. You should be able to pull the bumper back enough to see the connector. It is on the drivers side of the car. It has a grey lever/cover on it. Just raise the lever and the connection will release and you can pull it out.

Once these are all off you can take the bumper off. Start from one side and work you way towards the center. It is tight under the headlights but don't be scared to use a little force. I used a small screwdriver to help pry it off.

Now that you have the bumper off you will see how the existing harness is connected to the bumper and the parking sensors. You will also see the blanks that are attached to the bumper where the fog lights are suppose to go. Starting with the blanks use a 7mm socket or wrench to remove the 5 screws holding them in place. You will need a socket with and extension to put them back when you attach the fog lights to the bumper.

After you have both fog lights on take the new harness and lay it over the existing one mirroring the layout. Remove the grey harness rivets where they are attached to the "styrofoam". There are two of these at each end of the bumper. Be gentle with these or you will break the plastic they are in like I did. Luckily I was able to drill new holes for the new harness.

The connections to the sensors are pretty easy to take off. Basically a push lever to release the harness from the sensor. There are a few that are tough because the lever is on the bumper side. Use a small screwdriver or crescent wrench to press the lever and grab the connector to pull them off. Once the old harness is off, starting from one side start putting in the rivets and making connections. After they are all done and the harness is secure you can put the bumper back on. Push it back into place under he headlights so it is secure. Reach under the drivers side of the bumper and connect the harness to the car by securing the connector and locking it in place with the grey lever.

Pull out the headlight washers and put the covers back on. They have to be all the way on so that when they go back into the car they are flush against the bumper. If there is any gap pull them out again and keep rocking the cover onto the washer until is rests flush (some fluid will come out when you are messing with them). You will hear small snapping noises, that is just the cover seating itself.

Now put all the screws/rivets back in place to hold the bummer and splash guards. Don't forget to put the bolts on first before you put the engine cover back on.

I will update this post once I get the stalk and use dxtra196's instructions. I will take photos then as well.

For those of you still messing around with this mod and missed it, I covered this issue and the solution of the potential missing foglight wiring on the car side of the bumper connector in my posts in the following thread which you might want to look at.

CLICKY

This missing wiring is a lot more common than most seem to realize and complicates the install using the stalk option quite a bit.

BTW if I didn't cover it using those connector positions and the stalk work exactly like OEM system should.

Thanks for the instructions. I have wanted to do this since I got the car but like you, either I couldn't follow the instructions on here, or some people are wiring them different than the factory which I don't want to do. After you install the new stalk and if it works than I will do it. Good luck with the stalk. I have a digital copy of the service manual and the instructions for the removal of the steering wheel are terrible. I think someone on here had the dealer do it to be safe.
