If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Tell us about your "double-take" moments

I was out in the Foothills just meandering along, passed this Police Cruiser sitting in a layby, then all of a sudden Sirens & Lights behind me, I pulled over and he pulled in behind me..Oh I thought" I rolled my window down & put my hands on the wheel. Morning Officer, he replied Morning, I just wanted to look at your car" so I got out, opened the hood and we chatted a bit'
I asked him if he would like the opportunity to drive the "G" - So I now have an appointment at the local driving center to avail myself off the skid pan & watch a true pro put my "G" through it's paces..fun fun fun..;)
Who said owning a Hyundai was boring!!! --- my a**se
My uncle who drives a Corvette & Escalade took a drive in the "G" the other day, was he impressed.. He could not wait to get his 6foot.3inches frame behind the wheel.. His remarks -> Bloody mad motor..SharpE..

Not. Double take but today one of the people where I work asked if I bought a New Mercedes.

Hey Everyone! Thought I would share my “Double Take Moment” tonight
First a little bit about me

Anthony Sutton
NC
23yrs Old
Sales Consultant At a Local Hyundai dealership since Feb 28, 2011
No Kids

Purchased my 2013 Genesis Tech Pack on 05-30-13 Black Noir Pearl with Black Leather
Traded a 2012 Hyundai Sonata SE for it... (Sonata was a lease, but I did 41K miles in a year so had to get out of it lol...now purchase)

So I’m coming home tonight through a curve, and BAM! Cops cars are on both sides of the road..
But it’s a checkpoint, So as I slow down I notice one of the officers (3 of them) scan his flashlight over the front of my car trying to figure out what it is (front badge on order)..Officer: Good Evening Sir! Me: Evening Officer….. Officer: Can I see your license please? Me: Sure…as I grab my wallet another office comes over scanning my car...2nd Officer: Man, what kind of machine is this? Me: Hyundai Genesis! 2nd Officer: Hyundai!? That’s the one Shaq has right? Me: lol No that’s the Buick Lacrosse...2nd Officer: Oh ok..Just look at the paint on this thing, Man! 1st Officer: I know I like the headlights on it...2nd Officer: Don’t let my baby girl see this, she may want one! Good looking car sir…Me: Thanks guys! Have a good evening. As I drive off I see them looking and talking amongst themselves...This all lasted about a minute or two (Wish I had some business cards on me at the time lol)

I Love this Car!!

The "Double Takes" don't happen nearly as often as two years ago. I was often approached in parking lots where people wanted to discuss the car: they had heard about this new "high end" Hyundai and to a person they were impressed. I too had the Mercedes driver pull up along side, roll down the window and give a thumbs up. I liked being the only kid on the block with the new car. I saw a motorcycle cop check out the winged Genesis trunk badge and then ease up the side of my car and peered inside. I noticed a chuckle and I'll just guess he thought it was a Bently or something until he saw the flying H on the steering pad.

Had one today at a Panera Bread drive through. I was at the pickup window when a guy in a new Avalon does a really slow drive by in the outer lane. I saw him look at the car forward, backward, down, and fwd again. As I'm leaving I see him still in the lot, staring again as I drive past.

Also... yesterday on the Highway... some kid, looked about 8 riding with dad in a newer SL550 passes me on the left. The kid stares until he has to lean forward to see all he wants to see. Makes me wonder what dad might've said to him -or what he thought my G was. :D

Getting fuel at a Shell gas station. Young guys fills his pickup and walks by asking, "What is this? Is it a Bentley?" :D I said, no it's a Hyundai Genesis. He said, "that's a Korean car?? I'm Korean, but I never saw a Korean car that looks like that!!"

The wife was driving my R Spec and some guy pulls up by her in a parking driving a new 535. He asked if she would trade. She laughed. He said I'm not joking. Wish I was there I would have a new Bimmer. Ha ha.

This weekend I take my daughter out to a nearby location that sells fireworks because for the most part, they're illegal in Ventura county.

I park next to one of the dozens of stands in said nameless town and while standing in line, a business acquaintance I haven't seen in about a year pulls up in his S550, gets out with the "bolt on" wife and makes a little small talk while I pay the man. I walk away towards the G and a Nissan parked close by and he gives me the "sorry to see the Benz turned into a Nissan" line before we walk past the Altima beater and I get my daughter into the rear car seat. He's staring along with the wifey as he asks if I traded the E55 for the "Aston Martin??? "

"Nope, it's at home, just wanted something nicer than the Avalon as a work car................"

I'd have given damn good money to have snapped a picture of his face at that moment.

I have had my 2012 Gensis for a year. As background to this story, my wife was very much against me getting rid of my 2006 Jag X-Type Sport and replacing it with the Genesis. "Get anything but a Hyundai" and "How can you drive a Hyundai after driving a Jag" was her constant mantra. She just could not come to grips with the Hyundai image associated with the Genesis. Anyway, over the past year she has come to enjoy the car's power, ride and comfort, despite its "heritage". The defining moment came last week. We were returning to the car after shopping and she stopped behind a rather large, silver BMW. She asked me if there was any good reason why I was not unlocking the trunk. I looked at her and with the biggest sh-t eating grin said "I can't unlock this car cause ours is that one" while pointing to my Gene a few spots away. Her response was simply "wow". It doesn't get any better than that!! Yesssssssss!!

Alas the double take moments are happening less...I used to really enjoy it. Perfect strangers approached and asked about my car. Some of them knew its "heratige" and just wanted a glance. Yep --Merc and BMW owners were in the curious group

I still think the 2012/2013 Genesis sedan looks like a future version of a Mercedes E Class. They should look so good.

Okay, so the '15 Genesis will emulate Audi. Hope Hyundai knows what it is doing (and tossing away).

Had another one the otehr night. Had the car detailed that day so it was looking sharp. Walking out of the local Rite Aid headed to the car. 2 younger gentlemen walking in front of me headed to their MB. They were looking the car over good as they passed it. As theyw ere looking back at the car, I stepped up and opened the door. They complemented me saying Nice car as they walked over to their new MB. I just said thanks as I got in and drove off.

The 1G Genesis looks more like a BMW than anything else.

Not in da front.

But the side and rear makes 2/3rds of a car's design (and the whole Benz thing up front is overblown b/c the Genesis waterfall/Klingon grill is pretty distinctive).

I wrecked my previous vehicle and was meeting some concerned former co-workers for lunch.

Upon exiting the restaurant they asked where I had parked "this Hyundai." I pointed it out and was immediately challenged.

"Man! That ain't no Hyundai!!" I unlocked it and opened the doors for them to look inside.

One of them said, "Too rich for MY blood!" and walked away. :)

Had a double, double-take today.

I just had the car washed and was heading into the dealership to have my service work done. I stopped off at a convenience store to pick up a drink for the wait at the dealership. When I walked out, I noticed that a guy in a pick up had pulled in three spots down from me and was frozen, standing there with his door open staring at my car. He stood there while I fired it up and gave me a head nod as I drove past.

When I got to the dealership, I pulled into the service department. There was a young gentleman there whose main job was to pull vehicles into and out of the service bays. He took my car in and I didn't think anything of it at the time.

I went back into the service department after checking out the 2015 Gennies on the lot at the dealership. When I got in there, the same "car valet" guy found me and started up a conversation.

He stated, "When I got into your car, I liked the interior. I noticed that all of the door handles and the cup holders had lighted Genesis logos. I thought that was pretty cool. But then I fired it up. The car gave a deep growl and I thought 'Wow, that sounds awesome'. After I pulled it into the bay, I popped the hood so the mechanics could start the service and saw the motor. I had to call the Techs over to see. They were all impressed with the cold air intake on the car! That is an impressive Genesis!"

Side story: I pull out of the convenience store and noticed that the guy in the truck was still watching my car. Being in Oklahoma, home of the fastest street cars in the country (Street Outlaws reference), there are a lot of street racers and car enthusiasts around. As I got to the stop light right in front of the convenience store, a brand new VW pulled next to me. I turned and looked at it. There was a younger guy with his girlfriend or wife with him. He had a that "car guy" look and gave me a big head nod as if to say "Let's run 'em". I half chuckled at the thought originally. "There is no way a VW is going to run me. He just likes the car", I thought. The light turned green and this VW jumped out across the line in a hurry.

In a flash, I remembered the guy at the convenience store and thought, "Oh hell no. I am not losing to a VW with someone admiring my car from afar." Half way through the intersection with the VW a full car in front, I opened up "The White Puma" (nickname given to my car by my co-workers). She burbled out a very loud growl, started spinning both tires in the back slightly, gave a tiny shudder sideways, then jumped forward like her nickname. By the time we were across the intersection I was pulling even with the VW and never saw him after that. In that time, I believe there were two guys that realized that this car is more than just looks!

After doing some yard work I decided to hit the local Sonic as I was jonesing for a hotdog. I ate my meal in the car and drove to the waste basket near the exit of the parking lot. I got out to deposit my bag as an employee was coming outside to start his smoke break. He said,"Badass car man".
That's all I've got since I owned it.
There is a guy who works at the local auto parts shop who has a buddy with a 4.6 Genesis who always drools over my car.

Just today, coming out of Lowe's Home Store, walking behind a father and 5-ish year old son, the boy said, "Daddy! This looks like your car!". The father replied, "I wish!".
