  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Do you prefer the pre-2015 Genesis?

This seems like a biased poll. Most of the people on here obviously liked the first generation because they bought one and came here to talk about it. Proportionally there a much fewer people who came on here because they just started liking the genesis with gen 2. Since it looks drastically different, it is not surprising people who own the first one prefer its style.

I'm one of the few who did come here because of interest in the gen 2 only. I thought the original genesis looks ugly, dated, and like a giant Mercedes ripoff, and the interior looks like cheap Korean crap. The gen 2 looks a bit boring inside, but solidly designed. The outside is dynamic and gorgeous. I would never have bought an old genesis or the current equus, but I can't wait to get the gen 2 genesis.

I have always been a fan of Gen 1 and recently purchased a CPO 2011 4.6 with 31k.

I do agree that the Gen 2 is more attractive (especially modded) however Im having a hard time justifying the Gen 2 costs with basically the same v8.

So you would like this better?

Absolutely!

And I don't know about being biased against one or the other. The only reason I didn't buy a 2015 is because it's new and in 1-2 years it would have lost $20k in value. Instead I bought a last get for $20k. I still really like both generations and I find that for the money they offer more than the competition so they're all nice cars.

I am right there with you, I usually buy a car that is a few years old with low mileage, let the original owner take the large depreciation hit.
Now that the wife is coming around to liking the "Hyundai", maybe we look at a Gen2 in a few years.

My 2011 4.6 was only 20K with 32K miles. with all the mods I have done, I am still in the car for less than 23K.

I could not be happier with my car.

I agree the gen 1 makes a distinct statement. I have had countless situations where people were speechless when they saw my 2012 Premium/Tech, with the wing badges on front and back. Most people believe I am driving a Bentley, till I tell them it is a Genesis (only mention Hyundai when necessary).

Someone earlier in this thread stated that the 2015 Genesis on the outside looked like a Ford Fusion. I saw these 2 going down the street together, and I have to agree. The 2015 is not as distinct looking on the outside, but the interior is magnificent.

I know its subjective but I have no idea how you guys think the Gen 2 isn't as distinctive looking. The ford fusion was modeled after the Aston martin front end so I assume the genesis looks like an aston.....

I simply don't see it. I have had way more second looks and questions about my 2015 than I ever did in my 2013. the 2015 is a much nicer car in every respect in my opinion.

I disagree with the interior, also. And yes, I've spent some time inside a 2015. It strikes me as Ford-like plasticy.

Am I the only one that thinks the newest Lexus grill looks like a Battlestar Galatica Toaster? :)

I've driven a 15 a few times and have zero interest in getting one. I'll keep my 2010 4.6 until the wheels fall off .. and then find a low mile 2014 to replace it (unless the Gen 3 is out by then and they make it right).

so what is wrong with the 2015+ that needs to be made "right"?

I am with you. 1st generation Genesis is just timeless classic design.

Swap the rear end on my 2013 onto the 2015 and I'd buy a Gen 2.
Rear end kills it for me. Too Sonata for me.

I agree the rear end on the Gen 1 looked better. The Gen 2 rear end has grown on me though, but I don't think it's as nice looking as the Gen 1.

I love the rear-spoiler! I actually bought one of those for when I had my Gen 1 that I never got around to installing. One of these days I'll get around to putting it on eBay or FS on this board. But it's cool to see what could have been!

The rear of the Gen 2 improves greatly when the taillights are switched on.

I just don't see it. The lines and styling of the gen1 were handsome at the time but the gen2 with its long hood and short decklid make the car more aggressive and look much better. oh well, glad you guys love your cars as much as I love mine.
