  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hey guys, Haven't been on here in a while, but have been hunting around for almost a year for an intake for my car. Never find anything through google or forum searches...

I have the 2015 3.8 V6 and would love to give it a little more power and that sweet intake sound. I have sent in emails requesting one from K&N and AEM, and heard nothing back (as expected tbh)

Has anyone seen any, or know of anywhere to find one, other than ebay?

If this thread exists already, please point me in the right direction (and i apologize in advance).

Hope to hear back with some positive news!

1. No product exists because there is no market for such a product, at least at this point in time.

2. Your best option would be to make a one off custom piece, however on these cars almost any modification is going to the an expensive proposition to be done right.

3. Realize that the traditional air intake is a short ram intake and not a true cold air intake. CAI's generally relocate the intake and filter as far away from the engine bay as possible to help cooler denser air in, having had the bumper off to do my ALP Laser Jammer install, I can tell you this is going to be a challenge on the 15+ Genesis. I have the 5.0 so my engine bay is slightly more cramped than yours.

4. A short ram intake which generates the whistling sound (you say its sweet, its actually air escaping the intake tube, not preferable in my opinion) merely replaces the restrictive factory air boxes with a cone filter. It allows more hot air in because the filter hasn't been moved or changed from its original location in proximity to the engine - essentially you are not generating any more power because you are just pushing more hot air into the car. Any gains you may feel is your butt dyno fooling you.

I am encouraged that we have another G2 owner looking to modify their car though - maybe in time there will be some quality products available that actually can help increase HP and Torque. Until then I fear we have to make custom pieces or try to find others that are compatible.

I am in the process of developing a true CAI system for the 5.0 - its is proving difficult to say the least.

Thanks, I know the difference between CAI, and short ram. But good info for anyone else viewing the thread. It's my first car that doesn't really have a tuner market. I love the 5.0L but didn't make sense for me living in Toronto. spend most of my days in traffic, although every once in a while i wish I had it to play with. CAI would obviously be preferable, I've had one in all my cars. The sound I was referring to was not "air escaping" but rather when you boot it and the growl while it sucks in fresher air at a higher rate, allowing the engine to utilize the colder, more condensed air to improve HP and torque. I definitely don't want to build anything custom, way too much work for a car that I would only have for a few years.

also, lol @ "butt dyno" and ya i feel like there is some mods available for the G1 which gives me hope that eventually they will be around for our G2's especially the 5.0L. They don't offer the R-Spec for the sedans anymore, at least not in Canada. in the mean time I'll keep my fingers crossed that they create something. It's been on the market for over a year now. I feel like someone makes something for every car eventually... And thanks for the reply!

I have a 2015 Genesis 3.8 and just purchased a K&N High Flow Air Filter P/N 33-5019 for it. Looks like installation may take a bit of doing. The filter housing is on the right side of the engine compartment. It looks like a metal brace from the suspension tower to the front cross brace must be removed before the plastic housing can be opened. Has anyone done this?

I would think the braces would be very easy to remove if its necessary to do so to access the air filter.

Seems like a waste of money in my opinion. These filters have been discussed at length in other threads.

Any particular reason you went with K&N?

CIAs in today's cars aren't worth 10 cents. The computers that regulate gas/air intake care factory set and would have to be totally redone (re-programmed) in order to take advantage of a true CIA which really isn't feasible in this car.

PLEASE don't waste your money on a K&N filter unless you just like cleaning a filter, letting it dry, re-oiling it, etc. vs just changing out a paper filter every 15K or so. Your choice, but, I promise you will not gain a thing.

If you just have a burning desire to "hop up" this engine, have at it, but, you will need way more than an air filter by any name you choose to call it an some sort of obnoxious exhaust system. You would make me happy to send me the money to buy my insulin that I cannot afford ATM and have your car "stock" and still perform as well as it does right now and save yourself the headaches of looking for the pot of gold that doesn't exist.

+1. well said.

I have K&N filters in my 2001 BMW 530i and my 2009 Kai Borrego LX 3.8. I notice slightly better response above 3000 rpm on both vehicles. I'm hoping for the same occurs on my Genesis 3.8.
