  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

So.. is this why 2016 Genesis aren't at the dealer lots?

They are going to just release them as 2016 Genesis G80?

I only see 2015s at my local dealerships.

I don't believe this to be the case. I believe the Genesis G80 will be released late this Summer as a 2017 model...

I see, then they are just having trouble selling 2015s off the lot...

It's certainly a possibility. But I'm pretty sure it would be a bit messy for the Hyundai Genesis to be gone so suddenly after the 2015 model. It'll still be a bit of a shock when the 2017 is released as a Genesis G80 late in the summer - but a little easier to take...

Genesis Motors USA says exactly that on their homepage...

But, given how many 2015's are still on dealer lots and the apparent scarcity of 2016's, I would not doubt that the 2016's are being produced at reduced levels in anticipation of the summer launch of the G80 - So the 2016 Genesis may be somewhat of a limited edition model... ;)

Good point. The 2016 Hyundai Genesis could be a very rare item...

Hyundai Motor America at one time had the 2016 Genesis on their website as the only Genesis sedan available. Recently, the replaced it with the 2015 model, and the 2016 model is not listed (unless you know the direct link).

In addition, several people (including at least one dealership salesperson) have mentioned some fantastic bargains on the 2015's in stock, so it appears that HMA is offering big incentives for dealers to move them of the lots before the 2016's are shipped to the dealers.

I suspect that HMA does not want a bunch of 2015's and 2016's still on dealer lots when the 2017 Genesis G80 and G90 ship to dealers. Some dealers may still have some 2014's.

G80 could simply be a rebadge of the 2016 G2, maybe some tweaks to the options packages. It's that good.
They will probably make some minor changes to sheet metal, taillights, etc, just as they would for any mid-cycle refresh. It will be sold as a 2017 model.

Hopefully, the figured out how to fix the A/C system so it doesn't clog and grow mold/mildew inside of it, as some have reported.

Could be, although the G80 at the auto show appears to be a rebadge of the 2016 sans flying H.

It would not be a first. The 2014 Gen1 was in very few numbers and short lived since the 2015 Gen2 was available early spring of 2014. In fact, Canada never got a 2014 Gen1. A lot of us Gen1 early adopters have cars almost 2 years old now which is rather unusual as they are 2015 models.

My guess is that the 2017 G80 will at least have new engine offering(s) like the G90. H will have to do this to keep up with the competition.

There is no selector for it but mine is a 2016 AWD, there are some around here in Joisey.

The link you provided actually has this quote from the article author, so sounds like some changes may be made, but hard to know for sure:

"We don't expect the G80 to be too different from the existing 2016 sedan, though Hyundai officials tell us some more Genesis announcements will take place at the New York Auto Show in March."

But the fact that they are showing just a re-badged Genesis as the G80 at the Detroit Show, suggests no real external changes? So maybe the only changes will be interior trim, electronics, and engine (but adding the 3.3TT might require a physical change to the front end as well?).

Maybe changes are not ready yet. I am sure they would "like" to make the usual mid-cycle taillight, etc changes if they have time. Whether they have time or not before the 2017 G80 rollout, is the question.

Heck if they can get a V8 in there, no way do they need to redesign anything for it to fit or perform in the existing trim. Turbo's obviously breath more air however the V8 already has 2 air filters, one on the left and one on the right so this should not pose a problem either.

I would not be surprised to see the G80 drop the V8 in favor of the 3.3 TT. The V8 segment will be covered by the G90, and CAFE requirements will be a factor. (I have nothing against a V8, this is just my prediction. I know that if I am correct, there will be some disappointed folks)
