If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

1. Car came with paint flaking off the rear bumper. It looks like they mounted the bumper too flush to the body and was rubbing when the car would vibrate or shake while driving. Had to get it repainted, dealership payed for the paint job.

2. Car didn't come w/ the steering wheel dead on center, had to get it wheel balanced and aligned. Also done by warranty

3. Ticking somewhere from the front suspension area - service failed to locate the ticking. Still have the issue.

4. Now the ultimate headache - car consumes 1 qt of oil per 1000 miles driven. Hyundai refused to fix. Said it was normal.

This is now a 2012 Genesis 5.0 non RSpec.

Now minor gripes. The driver seat on the butt area is always stretched. Sometimes the radio fails to boot on starting the car and reboots by itself.

Besides that the car was great. I would have kept the car but due to 4. I am scheduled to return the car this week.

Hope this helps others.

1 quart per thousand miles means the motor is ruined dude. Not normal. I am awaiting approval for a new engine myself.

Just got approval for a new Transmission.

Sigh.

17 months now, and no problems.

Aside from the (potentially catastrophic requiring replacment) transmission issue I posted about in the transmission thread, the most annoying thing...

Occasionally the seat memory function goes nuts. My wife will drive the car and push seat memory button 2. Then I'll drive the car and push seat button 1. About once a month or 2, when one of us uses a seat memory button, the seat does not move to the appropriate position. It simply moves backward 4 inches or so.

Minor quibble: something about the shape of the car makes dirt collect on the rear of the car. Soot from the exhaust ALWAYS collects on the bumper (and touchless washes don't get it off) but if you drive during the rain, the rear of the car will look HORRIBLE as it looks like every spec of dirt you've driven across has collected on the trunk and bumper of the car. I've done 2 long trips in the rain in this car and man it looks bad at the end of the trip.

Minor quibble: the interior overhead lights occasionally flicker like they're not plugged in right. I cannot consistently reproduce it.

Oh, forgot...

The day I bought the car (2013 model purchased in 2015), on the way home from the dealer, the little plastic pieces that let you control A/C vent direction came off. For 3 of them.

2 weeks ago the drivers side door stopped latching exactly right. You had to slam the door. It's better now, but when I had it at the dealer for the 30k service, they reproduced it and ordered the parts.

Man it takes Hyundai a long time to get parts.

Bought used 29K mi on it from dealership. Bought the Platinum HPP warranty with $0 deductible for $1,600. Since owning the car (Jan 13) I have had the following problems:

1. right front strut assembly had to replaced. Original factory warranty pays for this around $400
2. left rear lock actuator had to be replaced. Original factory warranty pays for this around $80
3. rear brake shoes become "undone" and car leaves me stranded. You cannot drive when the brake shoes become undone (this is the weirdest car repair item I have ever heard...and not covered by warranty...$400
4. complete driveshaft replaced - HPP pays for it $1,600
5. ABS Brake module replaced - HPP pays for it $3,400.

Grateful I purchased the HPP.

Strut and brake shoes? Was the brake shoe the emergency brake or did you mean the rear calipers? I have 176,000 miles on mine and the brakes lasted to 130,000 miles. The ABS module may have needed to be replaced due to the wrong brake fluid which was to be replaced per a TSB.

Yes, the emergency brake I think. They said the adhesive or whatever separated from the back of the brake pad/shoe? You can't drive the car when this happens. Hell, you can't move. I was at the carwash...just finished vacuuming/cleaning interior, went to crank car put in reverse and the rear of the car raises like I am going up some ramps and makes a god awful noise. Everyone in the parking lot was looking in my direction haha. Note, I never use the emergency brake...never have. Vehicle had to be literally drug onto the tow bed because the car would not "roll". Felt bad for my car and Hyundai some as I live in a good area of Atl and this whole ordeal took over 45 min in front of a lot of people driving nice cars.

Regarding the strut assembly, I have no idea if the previous owner slammed into a curb or if it was defective so I give Hyundai a pass on this item. When you turned the vehicle, it sounded like winding a large grandfather clock.

Warranty, dealership and its people have been great though. I hope my problems are over. I keep all my vehicles to 200K mi generally

my 2012 sounds like crap for the first 30 seconds in the morning, then its fine, also when I back out of the garage in the morning the brakes squeal/howl.

Dealer says the noise is "the oil has to get to the top of engine, a design thing" and "tech says brakes are fine".

Too many to count over 5 years. I have a 2010 4.6 and it's a lemon.

60k miles no problems of any kind

60k miles no problems of any kind

I'm thinking of starting a "No Problems" thread: Mine is 12 months and two weeks old and, other than recalls, no probs. at all, whatsoever.

Two problems come to mind; transmission replaced under warranty (over 50k+ miles ago), and replaced sun-roof track when the old one broke (not under warranty :-( ).

No problems whatsoever with my 2009 3.8, except last month the HECU (braking control) failed. $2500 to replace.

Fortunately, I remembered the recall that involved replacing the brake fluid, found documentation on http://www.nhtsa.gov/, the and the service rep talked Hyundai for paying for everything.

2012 Genesis 5.0 and so far no problems yet. A lot of problems I've seen posted seem to be with the 2009-2011 models, and I suspect even then it's a small minority of all the cars made during those model years. But that doesn't mean it's not a real issue for those who have to go through that. The quality and manufacturing of these cars has improved quite a lot and I suspect there is a very low percent of cars with problems or "lemons" among the 2nd generation Genesis.

What do you mean by idler? I have the same car and I don't have any idle speed issues or anything like that.

Idler pulley under the hood gets a squeaky bearing, gets quite noticeable after a while.

We have had no heat blow through the blowers in the car. We have had to play with the fuses to get it to work. Fuses are good still 2nd time this has happen. Not sure how to fix. Any suggestions??? Nikki7
