  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Huddleston's Build Thread

<snip>
I was wondering in your exhaust work if those are indeed the original cats welded in, and if so, why you didn't go with a "test pipe" or second cat removal? I would think it, along with some kind of CAI (which I too am eager to see) would help the v8 breath a lot better.

By the way, white really is the faster colour (although the blue and grey one's I drove were v6's, and I bought the v8) :)

Not Huddleston but I bet I can hazard a guess of an answer. I believe it was for two reasons. First of all I believe the other car in his stable is a 800+ hp Shelby Mustang, so the performance "bug" is satisfied by that. The other reason is likely a desire to completely return the car to the serenity and quietness of the stock car at will. A couple of people who've gotten exhausts on the 1st generation have taken them off because they wanted to return to a stock experience.

correct Sean. I wanted an option to be insanely loud and obnoxious and also be able to return to stock as this car is my daily driver. the cutouts fit that bill perfectly. I placed them so that when open they are essentially an open header and when closed they are just like stock. I didn't really have a reason to modify the exhaust anymore to get the result I wanted.

Hi Huddleston, First thanks for showing off this car, it was one of the reasons I purchased one. I did tell myself I would not mod it, but coming off a Mazdaspeed 6, that I did a lot of modding to, apparently I have to do something, even as the wife rolls her eyes at me.

the CAI is something I have been looking into having fabricated. As I have said before, any gains at this point would be negligible because of no viable tuning solution for the 5.0 ecu. Additionally, this car is my daily and I am not wanting to spend the money to add a few wheel hp. I have another car to drive when I want to go fast.

Thank goodness it's the 18th lol :o

In just three more months it will be this posts one year anniversary. Time sure does fly by doesn't it :D

Hows the progress coming on the custom CAI? Any idea on price, what shop would do it for you, etc...

Excellent build so far, btw

What size tires did u end up with 285/35 and 255/30? U happy with the Bridgstones? Ordering mine today

No shop is making it, we were fabricating it ourselves. A food friend and I worked up an estimate on raw materials and the cost for a quality piece was over $700 due to the multiple intakes. Add to this the tuning issue and it quickly became apparent that there would be a very small market for a $1,000 intake system that yielded little to no whp difference.

It's simply not worth the cost or my time from a financial perspective.

Thanks for the compliment.

rear aren't bad - front is a pain.
Rears are easy, the hardest part for the fronts is taking the main strut nut on and off and compressing the springs.

I took a bunch of pictures and hope to have sometime this week to put a quick how to together.

its just sub assembly upon sub assembly upon sub assembly.... it was very frustrating especially with nothing to reference.

I will say that I learned the car is very well engineered and built.

lol well someone had to be first. I guess I got lucky that it went so well and I had no issues after the install!

Sucks to hear. I contacted AEM, Injen, and K&N. Obviously they didn't have anything, but said they would "put me on a list" if something were developed. Seeing as how I have a 3.8, nobody will ever make one for that. Oh well.

Have a 3.8 over here also and feel your pain. Odd considering the G37, 370z, and q50 all have a huge aftermarket and they have the same size engine. Nobody is telling them too bad so sad, Nissan should've offered the V8. But they have a plethora of intakes, headers, and exhaust options.

Velgen VMB5 wheels:

I like those wheels and might pull the trigger on them too, but... I couldn't find the right specs for Genesis.

If you don't mind - can you post exact specs; offset and center bore, please? do they came with hub centric rings?

I assume, the tires are F 245/35/20 R 285/30/20

contact velgen and tell them you want the same specs as Scott Huddleston. I don't remember the offsets - I think they are listed in the build thread somewhere. Mine did not come with hub centric rings.

I went (again :D) thru all 40 pages and I found these specs F et35 R et45.

Scott.....thanks for the info, I'll contact them definitively.
