  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Rigid Collars installed on my G2!

No manufacturer offers post-assembly performance improvement accessories & add-ons. None. They design and build for speed and efficiency in manufacturing - which is why the slop in the mounts exist.

Material cost to the mfg. is very small... Time to install at time of build would be minor in the scheme of things....Any costs would be offset by better car reviews.
Hyundai marketing Department would love this :)

I believe these collars will also reduce your weight by 50 lbs....they also will attract only beautiful women that have lots of money...
Come on guys if these collars really worked all car mfg. would use them as a marketing tool.
"THE PLACEBO EFFECT IS WONDERFUL"

I'm set-for-life on the beautiful woman thing, but as far as my car weighing 50 pounds less, where do I sign up? As for placebo effect, I have a serious "new-car-itis" disease and I'm determined to hang on to this Genesis until it's paid off (which I'm hoping will coincide with the introduction of the next generation G80 so it will at least be available for consideration). Therefore, even if I have to make some minor improvement (even if it's placebo) every couple of years, I'll do that. That being said, the rigid collar crew seems to be quite vocal, and it's been almost universally lauded on both the BH and DH, so perhaps there's something to this particular hype.

I'll be getting mine on my "ownership birthday" in February. Next year (or perhaps sooner) I'll be Dynomatting the trunk (there is absolutely no sound insulation under the carpet in most of the trunk).

As a long-time user, there is no Placebo effect. The benefits are very real.

Hi all,

Just had Tomi from ATQ (Tomi is friendly, knowledgeable and meticulous in his work) install the collars on my stock '15 3.8AWD. My initial test drive around the block didn't reveal much, but the 50 mile ride home sure did.

The difference is startling, as Rloyola0426 described earlier. The best way to describe it is that the car feels 500 lbs lighter, with all the good things that go with that. Steering is sharper, body roll is reduced, and suspension seems less "crashy" over the worst road imperfections. I may be slightly delusional, but it's quite amazing. If someone had told me that new springs and shocks had been installed, I would have believed them. The car now reminds of my beloved '09 Infiniti G37S sedan... A surprisingly cheap and effective mod.

A good test would be to find someone near you who has the same model car you have and do some road test swapping cars to see if you both feel the change.

I would be tempted to try this if I could find them machined from bronze.

I just tried to install my kit...not a fun job, mostly from trying to jack up the car and get it steady. I jacked up the rear using the subframe to suspension pivot point, then put the stands under the normal jack points. I then kept the subframe supported by putting the jack on its cross member, behind the diff, and kept some tension on it. I think that helped keep everything in alignment and I had no issues putting in the collars and getting the bolts/nuts back on. And then horrors of horrors, to remove the stands I just jacked up the rear using the 1 subframe point till the stands cleared and quickly lowered it :-)

But then the front.... I jacked up one corner by the correct jack point and then put a stand under a solid subframe point. I was amazed that when I let the jack go the other front corner lifted off the ground...stiff frame! I then used the other corner subframe point to jack up the other corner and put the stand under the correct jack point. So at this point I had 1 stand on the body and 1 on the subframe. I decided to take a look at the bolts to figure out if I needed to support it by the jack point, but I never got that far. The 2 supplied collars are the correct outside diameter, but too small internally to let the bolt pass. And my bolts didn't have the plastic spacers indicated in the instructions. For grins I pulled the front bolts and there is no built in collar, there is a nice gap and it should get collars as well. Not sure what car Tomi used to size out these collars, was it an Ultimate that has the electronic shocks? Maybe they are different... I got hold of Tomi and he is going to send me the parts I need.

So for all of you thinking of doing this, I would pull the front subframe bolts and verify what you have! I will say that especially in the front, I can see where all that play could mess the suspension up. I look forward to getting this Beta test over and seeing how she drives. I am less sure about the rear collars as they go into aluminum "slugs" that are isolated from the remaining subframe by rubber. But I guess everything counts...

Thanks for posting your experience, Celltech. I havent installed mine either, but did speak with Tomi last week. He explained that the first set of 5.0 front collars were machined at 13mm but that they should have been done at 14mm. He advised drilling through the collar with a 14mm bit to get it to fit... which didnt seem like an ideal solution for me. I asked him to send me a new set of front collars that would fit and he agreed. I havent received either set yet. Will post my impressions as well once I get them on.

Do you have an Ultimate or not? Cause if you are a non-Ultimate like me then you might need collars for the front holes on the front subframe. Tomi wanted to know if I could tap my 2 front collars and thread in the bolts...uhhh, no :p

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
So I assume you received 6 collars. If you read back to when one of the forum guys went to Tomi's shop they discovered that 2 of his bolts in the front subframe already had some sort of factory collar welded in. So Tomi only included 6 in the kit (4 rear, 2 front). But when I pulled my car apart I discovered all 4 of the front bolts had gaps and could use a collar to take up the space. You might try pulling the trans cover off and looking at the bolts and see if they look like mine or not. I am assuming the welded in collar is visible to some extent. In the 1st and 6th picture I posted I just backed the bolts out (from drivers side) and took a pic of the gap.

He is sending me 4. They are .760" OD and 14mm ID. The 2 that I got for the front, that do not fit, are .760 OD and 13mm ID

If I had the right tools I could just tap the 2 that don't fit and screw the bolt into them...but I would still need 2 more.

Thanks, that's super helpful. So in summary, for non-ultimate V8 owners, we need 4 rear and 4 front collars.

I am not sure it has been proven if the difference is in the Ultimate, or Hyundai just decided to make a change. From what I gather Tomi has looked at a 5.0 Ultimate and a 3.8 AWD. Both only needed 2 front collars. It may take a few more of us learning about this to figure it out... Maybe he can just start shipping out 8 and let the buyer throw out 2 of them if they are not needed

You've got a 2015 or 2016?

I'll report back on my 2015 v8 non-ultimate once I receive the collars and get a chance to install.

My car (which takes 6 collars only) is a 2015 5.0 Ultimate H-Track. maybe because of AWD configuration the subframe is different...

Anyone have a phone number for ATQ? Thanks!

Any more info on the Ph # for ATQ????? ... I'm ready to order a set of collars, but their website only seems to show the 6 collar configuration for the V8 and I have a V6 RWD so I assume mine takes 10 collars.
