Haven't posted in while, but my CPO 4.6 has been mostly trouble free. Have 160k miles on her now.
List of problems...all "minor".
1. When I got the car, I noticed the key not in vehicle and seatbelt warning would randomly flash on the dashboard. Fixed it myself, the driver's seatbelt wiring harness wasn't seated together properly. Odd side effect was that while tinkering with the harness under the seat...it would cause the cabin dome lights to flicker?! Seemed liked they shared a ground connection in the harness for some bizarro reason. What's also wierd is that fixing the seatbelt harness also stopped the key not in vehicle warnings...again, I'm guessing they shared a random ground signal somewhere.
2. When I got the car (CPO w/ 28k miles) the headlights were nearly aimed at the ground...despite the auto-leveling. Fixed it myself by adjusting the aim up myself.
3. Thermostat stuck open @ 36k miles. Fixed under warranty, biggest irritant was the dealer didn't have it in stock, so took 5 days to get it and ***** dealer wouldn't provide a loaner....haven't gone back there.
4. Somewhere around 70k miles (4 yrs old) the driver's door keyless button wore out, I just live with it...not worth fixing.
5. Windshield wiper motor failed @ 90k miles. Cost $568 to replace. Ended up getting that money back last year as I got a notice from Hyundai that there was an apparent flaw and they extended warranty coverage to 100k miles.
6. A few months ago, my steering
wheel got stuck in the "up" position. It would telescope, but no up/down. Wasn't a big deal, I only move it down a little...tried all the DIY fixes here, then about a month later it randomly started working again.
7. PCV wore out at 150k miles. Caused check engine lights and hard start after fueling since it couldn't purge/equalize fuel vent pressure. Replaced myself for $50 from NAPA auto parts and 15 minutes. Super easy, it's nested right on top of the engine under plastic cover.
8. I've never taken it on more than a 6-7 hr road trip. But 3 or 4 times after driving for about 3 hrs straight, the whole radio system would "blink" and reboot? Usually not a problem as I typically pit-stop about every 2 hrs, but weird.
Not so much an issue, and it's been discussed here in the past but the rattle on cold startup is a repeatable phenomenon. For example: if I just start the car to move it out of the way in the driveway (so turn it on and off almost immediately), the next time I start the car I'll get the diesely sounding rattle on startup. This is no matter if it's summer or winter time. Pretty much determined the cause to be the that the oil pressure needs to build in the engine for at least about 30 seconds to a minute before turning the car back off. Otherwise there won't be enough oil left in the right places (I don't profess to be an engine expert) and on the next startup it will cause the timing chain to make those awful sounds.
Other than that...just regular maintenance, oil/fluid changes. Brakes, accessory belt and
spark plugs all changed once so far.
