If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

The connections are in the trunk under the liner. It's easy to get out and a quick fix.

Could you elaborate on exactly where the connections are located? ... A picture would be even Better!..............Thanks much!

Thanks I will try that. The dealer wants $1150 plus labor for a camera. I would rather go without one.

I don't have any pictures, sorry but as soon as you take the cover off the trunk lid, you'll see the connections.

So, it's under the Lid of the trunk? Any trick to getting the cover off the trunk lid?

My back up camera, just started to work again . WOW. I now think that it was frozen from all the cold weather we get here.

I haven't posted in some time, as per my posts past history, I have had many issues with my 2009 4,6Ltr model, last year I had a massive engine failure as posted on this Forum. Here in Québec Canada, Hyundai was charging me in excess of $17,000 Canadian for a replacement motor, since then I have tried to find a used replacement 4,6 in Canada without any luck, I had found 1 in Florida and 1 in Kansas but given the current currency exchange and freight cost to Canada, I decided not to go that route.

2 weeks ago after almost 1 year being parked at the service centre, I decided to give up, cut my losses and turn it in to a local scrap yard. Other than the engine the car was in pristine condition & had just over 124,000 miles (200,000 km). It had always been serviced at the dealer, always synthetic oil changes. I remain on the lookout in case Hyundai would advise of a inherent problem with their original 4,6ltr engine. At the present I consider this vehicle the worst car purchase I have ever done and compounded by the fact that my local dealer never got truly versed on that type of luxury vehicle.

I am glad too see that Hyundai is trying to now distance themselves from their standard dealers and are naming their luxury vehicle program "Genesis" and that they will now only be available in selected dealers.

I'll continue checking in to this Forum from time to time. At the moment I am now driving a BMW 535 Xdrive, I drove it through it's first Canadian winter last year and I must say I felt safer in my present vehicle than I ever felt in my Genesis.

Wishing all the other Genesis owners better luck than I have had

I have a 2011 3.8 genesis with 70,000 miles. Several months ago it started making a rattling sound on cold start ups (timing chain etc..) brought to dealer and they claimed to fix it. Cost just over $1800. Car is still making rattling sound on cold start ups. Problem is I got the car fixed out of state while traveling because the noise started getting extremely bad! anyone have same problem after dealer claimed to fix it?

Haven't posted in while, but my CPO 4.6 has been mostly trouble free. Have 160k miles on her now.

List of problems...all "minor".

1. When I got the car, I noticed the key not in vehicle and seatbelt warning would randomly flash on the dashboard. Fixed it myself, the driver's seatbelt wiring harness wasn't seated together properly. Odd side effect was that while tinkering with the harness under the seat...it would cause the cabin dome lights to flicker?! Seemed liked they shared a ground connection in the harness for some bizarro reason. What's also wierd is that fixing the seatbelt harness also stopped the key not in vehicle warnings...again, I'm guessing they shared a random ground signal somewhere.
2. When I got the car (CPO w/ 28k miles) the headlights were nearly aimed at the ground...despite the auto-leveling. Fixed it myself by adjusting the aim up myself.
3. Thermostat stuck open @ 36k miles. Fixed under warranty, biggest irritant was the dealer didn't have it in stock, so took 5 days to get it and ***** dealer wouldn't provide a loaner....haven't gone back there.
4. Somewhere around 70k miles (4 yrs old) the driver's door keyless button wore out, I just live with it...not worth fixing.
5. Windshield wiper motor failed @ 90k miles. Cost $568 to replace. Ended up getting that money back last year as I got a notice from Hyundai that there was an apparent flaw and they extended warranty coverage to 100k miles.
6. A few months ago, my steering wheel got stuck in the "up" position. It would telescope, but no up/down. Wasn't a big deal, I only move it down a little...tried all the DIY fixes here, then about a month later it randomly started working again.
7. PCV wore out at 150k miles. Caused check engine lights and hard start after fueling since it couldn't purge/equalize fuel vent pressure. Replaced myself for $50 from NAPA auto parts and 15 minutes. Super easy, it's nested right on top of the engine under plastic cover.
8. I've never taken it on more than a 6-7 hr road trip. But 3 or 4 times after driving for about 3 hrs straight, the whole radio system would "blink" and reboot? Usually not a problem as I typically pit-stop about every 2 hrs, but weird.

Not so much an issue, and it's been discussed here in the past but the rattle on cold startup is a repeatable phenomenon. For example: if I just start the car to move it out of the way in the driveway (so turn it on and off almost immediately), the next time I start the car I'll get the diesely sounding rattle on startup. This is no matter if it's summer or winter time. Pretty much determined the cause to be the that the oil pressure needs to build in the engine for at least about 30 seconds to a minute before turning the car back off. Otherwise there won't be enough oil left in the right places (I don't profess to be an engine expert) and on the next startup it will cause the timing chain to make those awful sounds.

Other than that...just regular maintenance, oil/fluid changes. Brakes, accessory belt and spark plugs all changed once so far.

Never a single problem - now at 2 years and 2 months.

Hi Snork! I read your post on the issues with your 2009 4.6. I now have a 2017 G80 5.0, but I had a 2010 4.6 Tech, and a 2011, and a 2012. The 2010 and 2011 both had the radio issue you wrote about. The cure was a full reload of the DIS/NAV/RADIO software. A dealer should do this for free, as it was a known issue in 2010 and 2011, and for all I know, it affected the 2009s, as well. The steering wheel "up/down" problem is likely due to the age of the switch. As these switches get older, the contacts inside can tarnish just enough to fail to make contact. Add to that, it seems that your issues with that may have started during the colder months, and the lower temps cause the metal contacts to contract a little, again, enough to cause a fail to make contact. If you are adventurous, you can disassemble the switch and lightly clean the metal contacts, and put a tiny amount of electrical contact grease on them. But, if you're not comfortable disassembling very small electrical devices, then you'll want to avoid doing this, as the contacts and springs inside are very small and a bit of a pain in the arse to play around with. I wonder what Hyundai would charge for a new switch? I had the same problem with the steering wheel up/down control in my 1999 Lexus here in Arizona during a cold week this past February, and I took it apart and cleaned/greased it. it works like new again! As for the diesel rattle on quick start-up/shut-down/start-up ... All my Genesis cars 2010 through my new G80 had/have V-8s in them, and they all do exactly the same thing as yours does. You may not be a professed master mechanic ... but you are absolutely correct! The design of the Hyundai/Genesis V-8 engine block is such that the oil drains quickly and fully from the top of the motor down to the oil pan. It's great for fast and even flow of oil when the motor is running, but a bit annoying at start-up. The trick is not to rev the engine until the oil pressure pumps a bunch of oil back up through the motor. I don't think it's the timing chain that is rattling - it's more so the lifters and rocker arms. If it was the timing chain, I imagine yours would have snapped by now! LOL Glad to hear/read that yours is running so well after so many years and miles. Most likely it's because Hyundai pretty much copied the Toyota 1UZFE engine design, (the same motor I have in my 1999 Lexus SC400) and it's one badass design. My Lexus has 92K miles on it, and it purrs like a kitten still!

2015 MY Genesis 5.0 Base (not Ultimate). Bought new. 2 Yeard old this month. 20K miles.

No issue until LAST week; BUT over the last year, I feel increased in-cabin noise, when it used to be coffin quiet for the 1st year...maybe its my perception, as a smart phone based decibel level application does not show increased decibels, but research shows that the sound freq have an impact on "loudness" experienced. On complain, Dealer Service just applies silicon lube on rubber sleeves in the sunroof; but i am not sure it that has any impact on in-cabin noise. Any suggestions here?

Last week...dead battery: Car was parked in the drive way the weekend before; stayed there 4 days....and when we tried to start it up on thursday last week, absolutely no power....dead battery. Tried jump starting, did not succeed. Had it towed to dealer; got is back Monday with a new battery. Hope that this will fix it; but will know if there are other electrical issues if this one dies too....
BTW, i have never had a failed battery on any of my other cars over the years in first 7 yrs of a new car (Ford, Honda, Nissan, Toyota), so this was disappointing (but dealer came thru with a rental replacement for 3 days, and got the battery taken care off).

I have had mega problems with driver seat memory module failing and seat not being able to adjust forward or in reverse.

My only issue with my 09 Genesis 4.6 Sedan, as others have said, is my steering wheel adjustment control has become inoperable a few years ago, Although with the memory control knowing my setting for tilt and elevation, it doesn't effect me that badly. The ONLY major repair just occurred after 228,500 highway miles of use. The motorized power steering pump failed at low speed. Boy, its like driving a Mack Truck w/o the power steering assist! After extensive search, I only found only 2 units on the internet from Salvage yards for $245.00 and my mechanics labor cost of $500.00. After a long wait for UPS delivery, the "new" functioning unit works fabulous!!!

Removed ecu to replace brake master cylinder. Brakes work fine but i keep hearing this buzzin sound in the cabin while after pressing the gas pedal. It would intermediately go on and off if im holding onto gas pedal but only in drive. In park i cant replicate that sound.

Car runs fine brakes work fine. Its an annoyance and at the same time i also dont want it to become something worst. Also no CEL popping up as well.

Only issue, existed when I bought it at 116K, was the driver's seat won't lower.
2011 3.8 base.

6K miles later, no new issues except flaking clear coat on the mirrors, but that's a Florida thang :p
