If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis G70 Reviews

My plan is to test drive the 2.0T first, and if it feels fast enough, go with it. I won't know what I'm missing if I never try the 3.3, and they'll both be massive upgrades to what I'm driving now.
I drove both and there is definitely enough power with the 2.0l and I highly doubt you will be regretting not getting the 3.3l.

I honestly think the 3.3 is more power than i need but i do like the exterior style more on the sport, i think people talking about getting a chip for this car to give more power are savages lol way more power than you can really use

I pick mine up tomorrow and (in the back of my mind) am wondering if I made a mistake and should have bought the 2.0l as the 3.3l does have a lot of power. I do like loaded vehicles though so that is one of the reasons I went with the Sport.

When that M3/4 or RS5 pulls up beside you...you can never have enough :) Alfa Gulia Q...well...with a chip you would at least "somewhat" keep up...it is a 3.6 second car after all.

I won't be racing anyone... probably ever, so it's sounding like the 2.0T might be more my style.

Congrats on the new car!! You will never regret having too much power but you may regret not having enough, for me its more about money savings so it was either the base 4cyl or top trim 3.3 so the extra $150 a month i could justify to have the most power i can use as well as all the features and looks.

You will not regret getting the 3.3 unless maybe you went a over your budget too much but i think alot of us do that anyway lol

Yeah, i dont race anyone in my 3.3 but i do accelerate hard quite often and have some fun lol i think my g70 3.3 has all the power i could ever want as i cant really find situations to even take advantage of its potential. Not sure how people get full use out of their c63 or m4 lol

Yeah, I agree. Can't ever remember having bought a car and thinking, "gee, I wish this had less power," but I can clearly remember having bought several and wishing they had more. Now I sort of wish I'd never driven that Mustang GT. Still not completely out of consideration if the G70 price is too high.

Beyond power, it's also about fuel costs, insurance costs, actual car payment costs. So would I rather have the 2.0T and a small vacation, or the 3.3T. It's certainly not a cut-and-dry decision either way.

If the 2.0T feels sluggish on the test drive, I'll give the 3.3T a try.

You are correct on all points as that is what i used when comparing the germans, insureance was a huge drop when i went from my 335 to the g70 and fuel costs would be lower for sure when getting into the 2L as opposed to 3.3L. Each to their own as usual i guess as i would not save the difference in cost and end up pissing it away $10 at a time so at least in my case id rather spend it up front lol

I fully believe you will never say "I should have gone with less power" just like you will never say "I should have gone with a smaller TV".

That said, most of us live in a reality where we have other limitations - mainly money, so we do the best we can. I highly doubt anyone would be disappointed in going with the 2.0, still a perfectly fine engine and still a good value. But I also don't think anyone will regret going for the 3.3 either. I know I don't! (y)

I told my wife I wanted to get a new 100" TV and she said " But that will be like we are at the movies!" and I said "Exactly..."

I always told my wife...you can always sleep in a car...but you cannot drive your house !!! So nice car is very important...LOL. And yes...excluding campers...real house.

I justifed a lot of expensive photo gear as "needed" to get good picture of the kids: "I need at least a 10 frame per scond camera body to get a shot of our blink-prone daughter with her eyes open." It worked! lol

This makes good sense to me. I agree that for many, the 2.0 will deliver the goods. For others, perhaps not and the financial aspect will come into play. No sense in getting more than you need or spending more than is reasonable for the available budget. Many people will gravitate to the 2.0 for one or the other of those reasons and I think they'll still end up with a very nice car.

Seeing that the 2.0t has 252 hp and my 98 bmw 540i v8 had only 278 hp, I am quite sure the 2.0t will meet the needs of the majority of buyers.

Interesting. That's the exact same HP number as the Accord 2.0T engine. But the Accord weighs less. I'm sure the G70 would handle better, but I wonder if the Accord would feel quicker.

I wonder why the G70 is rated at 252hp when the genesis coupe had 274 back in 2013? As far as i am aware it is the same basic Theta engine. Different tune perhaps, different intake/exhaust tracts? I don’t know much about Hyundai Corp engines so maybe i’m off. I also see the 2019 Veloster N has 275hp. So the G70 is well down comparatively.

Seems a shame to give up 22hp after 5+ years. Or maybe the ratings system changed. If the 2.0T was around 280hp/290tq that would be ideal. Still a big enough jump to the 3.3T but clearly ahead of many of the German 2.0T’s. the Alfa 2.0T is 280hp/306tq which is a bit higher strung yet.

I agree I have wondered why the i30n/veloster n has a higher horsepower engine.

^ heck, even the sonata had 271 back in 2013-2014. Maybe they are under-rating the G70? I know back in 2004 when i got my first G35 6MT sedan they rated it at 260hp, whereas the coupe (same engine) had 280hp. This was for marketing since dyno testing showed the sedan and coupe to make the same. The coupe cost more, and Infiniti wanted to market it as a higher performing ride. Maybe Hyundai has a strategy in play, except for the cost part of it...
