  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2018 T-Handle Shifter Swap

Any update on this?

Just got back from vacation and plan to take it to the local dealer later this week to get their take (along with some light body pain fixes they owe me). Will update soon

So the body paint correction tech is on vacation until next week so I made an appointment for next Thursday to correct a chip on the hood . I should know about the shifter that day as well. I’ll take some pics of the part to share here. I did ask the service advisor about the shifter, and he spoke with a technician who told him the issue is not the physical fitment, but the actual electrical compatibility. He also mentioned a mod like this may void warranty coverage for the other shifter components...we will see what they tell me next week.

The manual say to just pull up on the handle and it should come off, just do it already lolol.

F- that I’m not messing with it! Also noticed that the t-handle doesn’t have a mechanism to press in when shifter out of park.

oh man, so did you get the electronic version or the manual version the one in the pics looks like it has a button to push in on the side.

I'll double check. There is a black switch on the left side of the handle but it does not really pop out. I'm thinking maybe there's a mechanism inside that causes it to open up to click out of Park

Confirmed part number 46720 B1050RRY

Yeah seems like the button will pop out when installed. Does definitely look like the manual shifter not the electronic one.

I think your right it probably will pop out once its seated. looks like it should fit, come on just one hard tug lol.

If I remember right from pulling my center console out on my '15 the gear knob and boot are connected. You have to pull the boot edges up *first* and then pull straight up on the knob to remove it all. And that boot trim is t.i.g.h.t., use a plastic putty knife to help get it out. If you do choose to just pull up on the knob, be very careful or you might "liberate" it from the boot.

Gents,

I stopped by at the dealer today to show my service consultant a video of the flutter noise (a seperate thread here- I also shared a new YT video of it). I showed him the T-handle and he thinks it will work, but most likely will require disassembly of part of the shifter console since they are pressure connected. They were swamped today so I made an appointment for next Thursday morning to have their paint expert fix some chips in my hood, address this flutter noise, and try to swap out to the new t-handle.

Genny was dropped off yesterday to have some paint chips repaired (free from the dealer), along with getting the flutter noise evaluated again. They are also going to provide an estimate for labor on doing the shifter handle swap, which should be done today; if they can do it that is. I'll report back on what they say. Fingers crossed that it can be done, and if so, I'll post pics afterwards!

Bad news. Shifter handle swap is a no-go. There’s a V shaped rivet on the rod that the original shifter goes in. It faces the dashboard since the shifter button you press to switch gears facing the front. The t- shape handle button faces the drivers seat, and they couldn’t do anything to alter the rod. No soup for you, come back with G80 if you want a t-handle!

Well at least you tried, give you props for that.

My loaner had this style gear shift and loved it! Just the right position for hand rest! Sux

Thanks for the effort!!!

Well, that's a bummer. High five for trying though.

I think it still can be done if the shifter assembly is ordered with the handle but that's just too much money than its worth.

Or you could rotate the T-handle 90 degrees and install it so the button faces forward. You get the T-handle and the familiar front facing button!!!!

Spoiler alert: Terrible idea.

Haha, that's gotta be a joke right. Would look ridiculous.
